During the Core Programme (20 lessons per week) we laythe foundation for your success. Your class teacher plansthe course programme with you, assesses your progress andgives you personal feedback. During the SpecialisedLessons you focus on the area of your personal or profes-sional interest.

This is the core of your programme in which weensure your learning success. Your class teacher care-fully plans a balanced, fully integrated, varied pro-gramme based upon your learning needs. Your securityWith Eurocentres, you are never without someone to turn to. If prob-lems occur, such as homesickness, difficulties with the homestay or any-thing else, there will always be somebody to help you: your class teacher,the person responsible for accommodation, the Academic Manager orthe Centre Manager. All schools have a 24-hour emergency number.

Clause 1 Registration, contracting party and minimum ageTo register, please use the form in the brochure or onwww.eurocentres.com, and send this as early as possible to Eurocentresor to a Eurocentres contracting party. First and family name mustbe entered as shown in the respective travel documents (passport oridentity card). On confirmation of the registration by Eurocentres(Foundation for Language and Educational Centres, Seestrasse 247,CH-8038 Zurich, Switzerland), the contract shall be deemed to havebeen concluded, and the registration shall be binding. The course par-ticipant shall be deemed to be a Eurocentres contracting party, providedhe or she is 18 years old or more. In the case of course participants whohave not reached the age of 18, the contracting party shall be deemed tobe the parent or guardian of the course participant. The registrationapplication must be signed by this person, who must also give his or herexact address. This shall also apply when the age of consent is not18 years in the country where the language course is taking place, or inwhich the course participant or his or her parent or guardian is resident.Special regulations apply for participants under 18 years attendingcourses in Australia. Before enrolling, please ask your Eurocentresadviser for a copy of the “Supplementary Information concerningAustralia”, and /or consult www.eurocentres.com. The course participantshall be defined as the person who takes part, or intends to take part, inthe language course that is the object of this contract.

Clause 2 Information provided on registrationThe course participant / contracting party hereby expressly confirms thatthe information provided at the time of registration for the languagecourse shall correspond with the truth, and accepts that he or she maybe expelled forthwith from the language course at any time should saidinformation prove to be a misrepresentation (e.g. beginners who select astart date on which no beginners’ courses are available). In such an eventthe course fees shall not be refunded in any way, not even on a pro-ratabasis. Potential participants who are unsure of their language level shouldtell their Eurocentres adviser that they wish to take the EurocentresPathfinder test (also available on www.eurocentres.com).

Clause 3 Terms and conditions of paymentUpon receipt of the course confirmation a down payment of USD 475 /CHF 500 /EUR 330 /GBP 285 / JPY 50’000 /AUD 555 /NZD 665 /CAD 500 per participant, as well as the premiums for the combinedELVIA travel insurance and the ELVIA Security Package are due.(Please note for online enrolments: the down payment is due upon yourcourse confirmation.) The remaining course and respective accommoda-tion fees are due six weeks prior to starting the course. Payment for allproducts shall be due immediately in cases where registration is madeless than six weeks prior to the start of the course. The fees shall bedeemed as effectively paid only once they have been paid into theaccount specified by Eurocentres in the confirmation of registration.Enrolments received by phone, fax or mail: When paying by credit card,the down payment will be charged to your card 10 days after dispatch ofthe confirmation and the remaining payment six weeks prior to the startof the course.

Clause 4 Delay in paymentShould payment not be made by the aforementioned date, the contract-ing party shall be deemed to be in default. In such an event Eurocentresshall not be obliged to admit the course participant to the languagecourse. The existence of a claim on the part of Eurocentres shall remainunaffected by the above. Eurocentres may claim damages in accordancewith clause 10.

Clause 5 Proof of paymentAt the start of the course the course participant shall provide proof ofpayment of the course fees and, where applicable, of the accommodationand other fees. Should the course participant be unable to present suchproof, he or she shall not be admitted to classes or accommodation. Insuch an event Eurocentres’ claims shall remain unaffected.

Clause 6 Enrolment feeAn enrolment fee of CHF 170 / EUR 110 /GBP 85 /JPY 18’000 /AUD 200 /NZD 205 /CAD 170 shall be charged for all arrangementsand shall not under any circumstances be refundable.

Clause 7 Change feeIf you request a change of school, date (course, accommodation etc.) ortype of accommodation before or after commencing the course, this hasto be agreed by Eurocentres. If Eurocentres is able to confirm thechange, you will be charged a change fee of USD 80 /CHF 100 /EUR 75/GBP 50 /JPY 9’000 /AUD 125 /NZD 135 / CAD 110. The change fee forthe language year / semester is USD 230 /CHF 300 /EUR 200 /GBP 145 /JPY 27’000 /AUD 370 / NZD 400 /CAD 330 and is payable when theconfirmation is received. You will not be charged this fee if you chooseto extend your course prior to commencement of the course. If wereceive your change of booking less than 14 days before the course is dueto begin or after the course has started, other costs may be incurred inaddition to the booking change fee (e.g. for accommodation) which wewill have to pass on to you. Any extension of a course, once the coursehas begun, will be treated as a new enrolment. In the case of specialisedcourses of more than 4 weeks, the specialisation can also be changedduring the course. However, only one change can be made every fourweeks. A change fee will be charged, should you change your specialisa-tion before this time. The school must in any case agree to a change.

Clause 8 Passport and visa requirementsMany countries have passport and visa requirements. Pleasefamiliarise yourself with such regulations and make the necessaryarrangements. More information about visas can be found on page 80and on www.eurocentres.com.

Clause 9 Obligations of the course participantThe course participant shall be responsible for choosing a languagecourse that corresponds to his or her abilities. The course participantundertakes to attend the course personally, to arrive punctually and totake part in lessons. Should irregular attendance or other behaviour ofthe participant break the law or cause a disturbance to other partici-pants, Eurocentres reserves the right to expel the participant from thecourse. In such an event the course fees shall not be refunded in anyway, not even on a pro-rata basis.

Clause 10 Withdrawal prior to the start of the courseThe contracting party may send written notification of withdrawal priorto the start of the course, without any statement of reasons. If such writ-ten notification is received by Eurocentres 14 days before commence-ment of the course, all payments already made to Eurocentres in con-nection with the present contract shall be refunded to the contractingparty, with the exception of the enrolment fee and the ELVIA insurancepremiums. If written notification is received by Eurocentres less than14 days in advance, but in any case no later than 5 p.m. (CET) on the lastFriday before the commencement of the course, an invoice shall beissued for the enrolment and, if applicable, the accommodation place-ment fee, the ELVIA insurance premiums, school fees for one week andaccommodation fees for one week, if applicable. The reimbursementswill be made within 4 weeks after receipt of the withdrawal. For studentresidences, hotels and apartments the respective General Terms andConditions of the third parties providing such accommodation apply.Special regulations apply with respect to withdrawals by participantsstudying in Australia on a student visa. Before enrolling, please ask yourEurocentres adviser for a copy (“Supplementary Information concern-ing Australia”. The information can be found on www.eurocentres.com.)The time of receipt of the notification of withdrawal at Eurocentres shalldetermine the date of withdrawal. If the notification arrives on aSaturday, Sunday or a general public holiday in Zurich or London, thenext working day shall be the official day of receipt.

Clause 11 No-show or withdrawal from the language course,failure to attend individual parts thereof

Should the course participant fail to attend the language course, with-draw from the course, or not take up individual parts thereof, such asindividual lessons, he or she shall not be entitled to claim anyreimbursement. Special regulations apply with respect to withdrawalsby participants studying in Australia on a student visa. Before enrolling,please ask your Eurocentres adviser for a copy of the “SupplementaryInformation concerning Australia”, and /or consult this onwww.eurocentres.com.

Clause 12 Cancellation and /or change of accommodationafter course start

Accommodation may be terminated or changed, subject to two weeks’notice ending on a Saturday. Notice of termination shall be sent in writ-ing to Eurocentres exclusively. A change fee of USD 80 /CHF 100 /EUR 75/GBP 50 /JPY 9’000 /AUD 125 /NZD 135 / CAD 110 will becharged. Should the course participant leave their accommodationbefore the end of the period of notice, the full price for the accommoda-tion up to the end of the cancellation period remains payable.

Clause 13 Complaints and liabilityThe course participant shall make complaints without delay to the localschool administration or to Eurocentres in Zurich. (Any complaint con-cerning services provided by a third party should be addressed to thethird party.) If Eurocentres is not able to remedy the situation within areasonable period, the course participant may take steps to remedy thesituation him or herself, and Eurocentres shall refund the cost, againstreceipts, in so far as legal and contractual liability requires. This proce-dure does not restrict the participant’s right to pursue other legal solu-tions. Any requests for refund should be made by registered letter toZurich within four weeks of the agreed termination of the course. Afterthis period, all types of claims under any legal title shall no longer applyand be forfeited.Eurocentres shall be liable for its own performances in accordance withthese General Terms and Conditions and statutory regulations but not inthe case of ordinary negligence; for package deals, liability in case ofclaims other than for personal injury shall be limited to twice the pack-age price. Liability is limited to the immediate damage. Eurocentresshall not be liable for the loss, destruction, etc. or misuse of valuables,cameras and video cameras, etc., mobile phones, credit cards, cash, etc.Eurocentres shall also not be liable for lost holiday time, experiencedfrustration, etc.—Eurocentres shall not be liable in the case of poor ornon-performance of services provided by a third party. Clause 14 InsuranceEurocentres strongly recommends you take out the combined ELVIAtravel insurance (covering withdrawal and return travel costs) andELVIA Security Package cover (luggage and medical costs insurance)and third party indemnity insurance. Insurance premiums are notincluded in the course fees, shall be invoiced separately and are notrefundable.

Clause 15 Minimum number of participantsWhere the minimum number of 6 students required for each languagecourse has not been reached, Eurocentres shall inform the participant /contractual partner at least three weeks before the start of the course.(Premium courses will be available regardless of the number of partici-pants). Where Eurocentres is unable to offer the participant / contractualpartner an alternative language course, Eurocentres shall reimburse anypaid fees. The contractual partner shall not be entitled to make anyclaims for having been inconvenienced or for other damages. In excep-tional cases, Eurocentres may also run courses with less than 6 partici-pants.

Clause 16 Changes to prices, dates or programmesProvided that no confirmation of registration has been issued,Eurocentres shall have the right at any time to change the dates andprices published in the course schedule, on the Internet or elsewhere.On conclusion of the contract, Eurocentres may amend the publishedprogramme of services, provided such amendments are unavoidable andnegligible, and are made in good faith and do not affect the overall styleof the course. If material changes are made to key services, the contract-ing party shall have the right to withdraw from the contract or to requestto join an equivalent language course, where Eurocentres is able to offerhim or her such a course. Eurocentres shall immediately notify the con-tracting party of any such amendment. The contracting party must exer-cise his or her rights immediately after receipt of such notification fromEurocentres.Eurocentres shall be entitled to increase its prices after signing of theagreement and up to three weeks before the start of the course for thefollowing reasons: increases in cost of transportation, increases incharges for certain services, fluctuation in exchange rate, official priceincreases, introduction or increased official charges. In the case of suchan increase, the price can be adapted and increased accordingly. In thecase of price increases of over 10%, the contractual partner shall havethe same rights as in the case of a considerable change of one of the keyperformances.Any changes to the program or performances during the languagecourse due to unforeseeable or unpreventable reasons are permissible,provided the overall content of the program remains unchanged.—Eurocentres retains the absolute right to assign or re-assign participantsto classes in accordance with their language skills or to implement anyother measures required for the correct operation of the school.

Clause 17 Data protectionWe only record your personal data if you order a brochure, ask for anoffer, or book a course. The received information shall remain withinEurocentres and is not made available to third parties or other organisa-tions.Your information is passed on to– book your accommodation (i.e. host family, residence, and hotel).– book a course or a service on your behalf that is provided by aEurocentres partner company (i.e. partner schools, travel insurance,universities, on-job training). Companies that are not part of theEurocentres organisation are highlighted accordingly in the Eurocentresbrochure and on the course confirmation.– order the requested brochure as quickly as possible. To ensure quickprocessing, we may pass on your order to one of our contractual partnersin your home region.– comply with statutory regulations. Clause 18 Consumer protectionBy signing the General Terms and Conditions of Eurocentres, the con-tractual partner shall retain the right to instigate further legal steps, sub-ject to these being available under the law applying to the place of resi-dence of the contractual partner or at the location of the school. Thisright shall not be limited by compensation offered by Eurocentres or apartner company of Eurocentres in connection with a dispute.

australia and new Zealand: Cairns, Perth, Sydney, Auckland

Participants who plan to visit Australia or New Zealand for 12 weeks or less can do so on a simple

3 month Visitor (Tourist) Visa (min. age 16). Participants who plan to visit Australia on a Working Holiday

Maker Visa will be permitted to study for a maximum of 4 months in Australia and 3 months in New

Zealand. Participants whose stay in Australia or New Zealand will be over 12 weeks and who are

ineligible for a Working Holiday Maker Visa will require a Student Visa (min. age 16). To obtain a Student

Visa in Australia or New Zealand, participants must (a) book an Intensive or Super Intensive course; (b)

show: 1) Letter of Offer 2) Proof of payment of tuition fees 3) Compulsory Overseas Student Health Cover

(OSHC) (at approx. AUD 33 per month, course duration + one month) only for Australia 4) Electronic

Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE); this is sent to the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs

by the school in Australia, with a copy sent to the applicant. 5) Formal financial statement, that they can

support themselves during their stay (basis: AUD 1’500 /NZ 1’000 per month). At the point of entry,

they will also be required to show the correct visa and an accommodation address. Please contact the

“Student Visitor Visa Route” (Course duration of 6 months or less for non EU / EEA-nationals): Non-EU /

EEA visa-nationals who are over 18 and wish to come to the UK, must obtain a visa and Entry Clearance

as a “Student Visitor” prior to arrival. This can be obtained from a British diplomatic mission overseas. At

the point of entry they might also be required to show the school’s confirmation letter, proof of payment

of tuition fees, the accommodation address, their return flight ticket and to prove with formal financial

statements that they can support themselves during their stay. For some countries a health certificate

might be needed. Non-visa nationals can obtain leave (permission) to enter as a “Student Visitor” on

arrival in the UK. Students under the age of 18 should apply for Entry Clearance as a “Child Visitor”.

Note: Students entering the UK on a “Student Visitor” or “Child Visitor” visa will not be able to work or

extend their course. “Student Visa Route” (Course duration of 6 months or more from non-EU / EEA

countries): Non-EU / EEA nationals who are over 16 need a “Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies”

(CAS) when applying for Entry Clearance as a student. The UK Border Authority has approved

Eurocentres as an official sponsor which allows Eurocentres to issue the “Confirmation of Acceptance of

Studies” for its course participants. The CAS has to be presented at a British diplomatic mission overseas

when applying for Entrance Clearance together with proof that the student has enough money to cover

course fees and living costs. A non-refundable fee for the “Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies” of

To stay in China you need a visa (30 or 60 days).This can easily be obtained at the Chinese embassy in

your country. It is very important that you apply for a normal tourist visa (L-visa), a student visa is not

To take over 20 units per week of study, every student must have a student visa (not a tourist visa),

obtained from the local American Embassy /Consulate. To apply for the Visa, students need a completed

I-20 form from the school. New regulations effective from June 2003 (SEVIS: the new US government

automated student visa system) mean that in order to issue the I-20 form, financial documents from the

student must be provided (e.g. a bank account statement) proving that he/she has “enough readily avail-

able funds” to study / live in the United States for the period covered by the I-20 “available from an identi-

Participants from many countries do not need a visa to take a language course in Italy for up to 13 weeks.

students must register their presence in Italy with the police headquarters within eight days of arrival.

For a stay of more than 90 days, non-EU students must obtain a residence permit, presenting their

questionnaire given by Eurocentres Kanazawa prior to enrolment. The completed questionnaire must be
