Jayy Starr

Please tell the readerswhereyou're fromandwhat youdo?SouthCentral, LosAngeles. I createart in the formofmusic.I do everything from writing and rapping to singing and engineering with a dab of production.

Tell us what was the deciding factor that made music your expression and how long have you been involved withmusic? I was born with the gift, embraced it at an early age and the rest is history. I’ve been at it for over a decade.

What's the indie music scene like in South Central, L.A.? It’s not good and it’s not bad, but my focus has always beenthe world outside of my city. I see the bigger picture.

Your musical influences? Da Brat, Aaliyah, Missy Elliot, Ludacris, Canibus, Kanye, to name a few.

Tell usabout a typicalmusicday for you?Prettymuchwritingand recording, grubbreak (laughs),writingand recording.Interviews, meetings, emails andphone calls. Twitter sessionswithmy supporters (laughs) and listening to newbeats.

In your opinion, is the indiemusic scene in South Central, correctly represented or does that need to be remedied andwhy? I don’t believe there is a blueprint on how indie music in my city, or anyone’s for that matter, should be done.I believe people should be able to express themselves however theywant and of course peoplewon’t agree, but that’slife. Everyone isn’t going to like everything and that’s good. That gives the world balance. Some artists will be great, some won’t. The indie artists that I do pay attention to are doing their thing for our coast and I salute that.

Industry folks you're connected with? I don’t like to name drop (laughs). I know a lot of people though. People that alot of artists should be aware of and aren’t, but luckily for me I am! I know a lot of the check cutters and inside menand out of respect for them and their privacy, I won’t say.

What do you do to stay in sync in a music scene that constantly evolves? I do absolutely nothing, but me. Being meis something that isn’t a trend therefore it doesn’t have an expiration date and there isn’t a drove of other people doingit. I have never altered my style to fit in and that’s why I’ve stood out and only progressed more throughout the years.I’m blessed with a gift that only gets better with time and I’m always learning new things about myself and my abilitiesas an artist. So my capabilities artistically, are limitless.

What’s your management situation like? GREAT!

Websites like WorldStarHipHop, Youtube, Vimeo, etc, have seemed to level the playing field, how beneficial has thisbeen to your promotional efforts and why? Helped of course. There was nothing like YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter andSoundcloud etc before. This has only made the industry and being heard more accessible to independent artists. These executives frequent these sites watching for the next big thing or fresh ideas. We can connect with a fan basedirectly and don’t even have to leave our home. Now for any artist really making moves of course we do get out in thestreets and do what we have to do, but those sites only make it easier to be heard.

Do you have any deals in the works? I have a few major situations underway, but details aren’t what I can share atthe moment. Just stay tuned.

Who are some of the artists you've worked with and would like to work with? A lot of independent artists from citiesall over the country and even a few overseas. I have somemajor collabs I’mworking on, butmy lips are sealed. I wouldlove to work with Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Those would have to be my top two as far as rappers. Daley is a beastto me on the singing end. I would love to work with himWhat was the first project you dropped and do you have anything ready to be released? First full project I ever did wasamixtapecalled “Welcome2Freshville”. It hurtsmyears to listen to it, but it’sdope toseehowmuch I’vegrown (laughs).I’ll be dropping an EP this summer through my label, but as far as my underground music I’m thinking of doingsomething new for my supporters.

What can your listeners expect from you and where we find your music? Nothing but greatness and a radio single thissummer that I’m excited about. You can listen directly at www.soundcloud.com/imnotjayystarr or www.itsmyurls.com/jayystarr for all of my other links.

Your plans? Just be on the lookout for a ton of new visuals and content fromme as far as short term. On the long termend, I like to keep what I’m doing a secret. It makes for a better surprise when it’s revealing time.

How can the listeners contact you? My twitter, @JayyStarr.

Thanks for being here, peace. Thank you for having me!

Please tell the readers where you're from and what you do? I was born in Newark, NJ and raised out ofPlainfield, NJ. I’m a Lyricist, spiritual teacher and counselor.

Tell us what made you want to do music and how long have you been doing music? My turning pointtranspires from Jefferson elementary school in Plainfield, NJ when I was inspired to play the trombonebymymusical instructorMr. Collins. It wasmyway to escape theharsh reality that I was facingat the timewith the violence of the inner city. I started rapping on corner blocks and behind school stairways withother inspired MC’s from the early 90’s seeking to release their similar views on reality.

What's the scene like in Plainfield, NJ? It have become very popular, however it’s toomuch of a quantitything instead of a quality thing.

Musical influences? Rakim, 2-Pac, Mos Def(Yasiin Bey), Redman, the Wu-tang clan, Eight Ball & MJG, IceCube, KRS-1, X-Clan, Run DMC, Notorious BIG, Nas, Damian Marley, Bob Marley, Outkast, Naughty byNature, Lords of the Underground, NY Oil, M.C. Lyte, Isis, and others that contribute to myupbringing.

BAKEM

Tell us about your movement. My movement consists of taking the elements of Hip Hop, Soul Music andEdutainment. I tend to create my own genre of music as a Hip-Soul artist. I will bring not only music buteducational videos on how to build and cultivate the land, and teaching through wisdom I have gainedin life.

In your opinion, in Plainfield, NJ, is Hip Hop correctly presented and represented by its members? It didat one point, but when you have thewealth in today’smusic scene compared to the past, most Indy artistare not trying to follow the rules. There’re more concern in making a dollar and the hype, rather thanbeing themselves and sticking to the moral values of the game.

Artistsand industry folksyou'reaffilatedwith?JohnRobinson,Blk Sun, PhantomBoyz,Nucci Reyo,DjGwizz,Dj Puerto Roc, Lords of the Underground, NY Oil.

Stayingcurrent?Yes, I’malwaysfindingthatnewsoundbutoleflavor thatkeepsHipHoptrue.Thatsoundthat inspires and motivate the masses.

What’s your management situation like? I am currently my own manager, because nobody is going topush, believeorgoharderforyouorpromoteorhandleyourcareer likeyouwill.HOWEVER IFTHATRIGHTSOMEONE COMES ALONG, then I’m willing to negotiate with that true and righteous individual.

With the technology being what it is today, how has that helped efforts and why? Video sites only work ifyou have the material that keeps the audience’s attention. However, when a society that is only fixatedon darker side of the entertainment world, you have to be strong and have a willful integrity to do thetypeofmusic Idowithoutbeing labeledasaChristianrapperorconsciousrapper. That limits youroptionto reach the masses of today’s pop culture.

Anyrecording, productionsor labeldeals in theworks?Yes, Iamreleasingmyfirstalbum“Warrior’sPath”with tune core under my record label “Scimitar Records”. Inshallah July 26th. Day before my Birth Day.

Outsideof thevideosites, howhassocial networking improvedyourgrowthandworth in termsofartistry? It helps tohaveanavenuetoconnectwithyourfansandotherartistwithout the typical industrystandardgiants that wants a piece of your soul and anything else they can devour. Thank You Tune core and ourMilitary for creating the blue print of what we call the internet today.

Tell us the first project you dropped and do you have anything ready to be released? My first projectswere singles I released to promote myself, but since then I have done the grunt work on over standingthe business side of the music industry, getting my life at peace and meeting my wife who is my biggestsupporter, I am finally able to put my work into play. It’s true, the best comes to those who wait.

What can your listeners expect from you and where can we find yourmusic? My listeners can appreciateand expect real soulful Hip Hop that is coming from an higher source that has allow me to utilize mycreativity, and my life’s experience that has formed the shell you see today as Bakem da “Black Soul”.Checkmeout at tune core, www.facebook.com/7077bakem7and reverbnation.com/bakemdablacksoulalso, youtube.com/bakemdablacksoul.

Your plans, short term and long term? I plan to give Hip-Hop a spiritual upgrade like no other. Just listenand allow me to give you what you have been missing in the Hip Hop world today. I can’t explain how myplans will be, you will have to wait and see.

How can the listeners contact you? Serious inquiries can contact me at 707-7BAKEM7 or my email [email protected] or through my Facebook pg. facebook.com/7077bakem7

SANDYSOLO

Please bless the readers with who you are and where you come from? My name is Sandy Soloand I´m a rapper and producer from Germany.

What made you choose music as your way to express yourself and how long have you beeninvolved in it? I was falling in love with Hip Hop in 1986, as a young kid. Back in the day, everybodystarted breakdancing. Over the next few years, I went from breakdancing to graffiti, to spinning records. Then I started rapping in 1989, because I thought I had something to say and rap would be the perfectway to express myself. Back then, rap music was totally different then today. In 1994, I started makingbeats because I couldn't find anybody who could make beats for me, the way I wanted them to sound, you know? Over the years, I spent more time making beats than writing raps and I had more and morepeople asking me about making beats for them.

What's the indie Hip Hop scene like in Germany and is it being accurately represented or doesthat need to be straightened out by artists, not unlike yourself? I think, we have the samesituation in Germany like every other country in the World. We have our major rap-acts who are beingplayed on National TV and Radio every day and we have our independent Artists who are travelingfrom show to show and battles to battles. The only thing that bothers me is, that the cities here don´tconnect well. Everybody is cooking their own thing. The acts in every city are well connected but thecities are not.

Who are some of the artists and industry folks you have connected with throughout yourjourney? A lot of german artists, but those names are just names for you. I don´t think that you arevery familiar with the German Hip Hop scene. I also worked with alot of people from the United States. Iworked with Royce da 5'9'', Cormega, Terminology, Nature (of the Firm), Big Noyd, Havoc of MobbDeep, Skyzoo, Saigon, Young Noble and Hussein Fatal of the Outlawz, JR Writer and Hell Rell of theDiplomats and I also did two beats on Shyheim´s last Album.

What do you do to stay current in an entertainment industry that constantly evolves? Always doyour own thing and don't follow the trends, because trends come and go. Let the trend follow you.

Hip Hop has become global, tell us about your specific sound, your influences and where you fitin? My sound is and always will be very New York inspired. I'm talking bout that 90´s New York. Drumsare the most important thing when I make Beats. Even if I make some kinds of west coast beats orbeats that are full of synthesizers, the drums always bang. Most of the time, I use samples, but I like toflip them different and add synthesizers to it and also some vinyl crackles. I love vinyl crackles. I thinkHavoc of Mobb Deep is responsible for that. I fell in love with the sound he created for The Infamousalbum and the Hell on Earth album. Since then I loved to use vinyl crackles. That adds some kind of awarm feeling to the beat. But like every other producer on earth, sometimes I just use a perfect loop.Nothing beats the perfect loop of a perfect sample. Never will.

In what way has technology helped you with your promotional efforts? The Internet helped me alot. I connected with Royce da 5'9'' on myspace in 2008. After that, I started working with a lot ofrappers from Detroit who heard my beats in the studio.Without the Internet, that would have neverhappened. It´s a easier way to connect people. It also helps to promote your music. You can reach somany people and can tell them about your new song, your next show or whatever. You don´t have tohand out flyers on the street the whole day anymore. But like everything else, it´s a gift and a curse.Youget annoyed by too many rappers who just bought a mic and Photoshop and act like they are singed toa Major Label. They act like they're in the studio working hard but they be on Facebook and twitter24/7. They think they are hustling very hard, but all they do is post some stuff online. That's nothustling.

Do you have any production or label deals in the works? I started my own label two years ago andI'm trying to get some joint ventures. Thats the future for all rappers, singers and producers. The majorlabels don´t wanna sign, people off of the streets any more. They wanna sign artists who have a brandand a fan base. You have to build your own future now. Labels are not doing it anymore.

Is being a solo artist something that suits your musical style? Totally. I love to work with otherpeoples but I like to create the song alone by myself. I'm like a movie director. I got a vision. I get theverses or the hooks or whatever and then I start directing. I need to be by myself for this. Same goesfor my videos and my promotion. I got a professional PR Team, but I have to pass them the promopictures and tell them what road we driving. The rest is up to them.

Tell us about your current musical projects (albums, production work, etc) and do you have anycollaborations in the works?Wow, I started recording my first album in 1999 and started releasingalbums and mixtapes in 2001. Since then, I came out with a new album and mixtape every year. I'm aworkaholic. To name all my projects would take an extra page. Right now, I'm finishing up my newalbum called "Der Morgen danach" (the Morning after). that will be followed by another Mixtape called"Die Nacht davor" (the night beaver) which is also almost done. I did all the Beats. I just did someBeats for Ty Nitty of the Infamous Mobb, Edo. G, Planet Asia and a few Others. Pac Dic are alsointerested in some beats and I'm working on a song with Vado, but he is too busy with his DJ Khaleddeal, so we don´t know when we gonna find time for that, but it will happen. I also work with some indieartists from New York. I did some beats for Blazin´ who is a very talented hungry and young emceeand I'm working on a album with my man, Montega Brix. He´s doing all the raps and I'm doing thebeats. He's really got something to say and some stories to tell. The beats sound like some beatsHavoc would have made for some Mobb Deep songs in the 90´s. Expect some raw and deep stuff.

What can your listeners expect from you and where can we find your music? I will always comeout with some music. So if people like what I'm doing, they can be sure that I will supply them with newstuff every month, every year. My output is crazy. They can find some music on iTunes, Amazon and allthe other platforms out there. They can also find some free Albums and Mixtapes on our Label page(www.diegeldmaschine.com) and Youtube of course.

Short term and long term plans? Finishing up all my projects that I have on the table right now andshoot some videos for that. Then we wanna go on tour this Fall. I wanna push my artist in the next twoyears and try to build a successful future for us. I also wanna work on some movies. I landed a little rolein a german movie which will hit German theaters this Fall. I also did some music for that movie. Iwanna do more of that stuff. I also wrote a script for a movie, I'm trying to shoot. I wanna stay creativeuntil I take my last breath. That's all I want.

How can the listeners of your music and supporters contact you? They can find me on Facebook(www.facebook.com/sandysolo) or twitter (@sandysolo1)

What's the indie Hip Hop scene like where you're from? Where I'm from Hip Hop is verycompetitive. I'm froma citywhere battling is a big part of HipHop. A lot of artist resort to the styleand kind of get stuck. It kind of reflect the history and the timemy city is in right nowwhen uhearmost of the freestyles and songs a lot of artist make. Sometimes we tend to turn people away fromus because of the simple fact of how real we are. 9 times out of 10 the artist in Philadelphia talksabout what he or she is going through. Our music kinda gives us a break and time to reflect on usand what we want to do.

Whoandwhatwere someofyour influences?Someofmy influences come frommystruggle, andthe people aroundme. I watchedmymomget over some obstacles most people cant, die from. I'vewatched people like Jay-z, Master P, Diddy. I've watched these guys turn the game around. Iwatched them take music to open windows for so many other things. That keeps me going

I'minfluence by everything and almost everyonethat has done it in a big way, technology hasallowedmusic to becomemore globalwhich isa good thing, because I believe music is a selfexpression in itself and everyone has thatright to express themselves. I was heavilyinfluence by Motown, plus I use to playinstruments so my sound would be more oldschool, less old school, less electronicallygenerated sounds, but i can do that also. Plus,I like to do my music in a way that you heardifferent things every time you listen to it.

JahRain

Please tell the readers where you're from and what you do? I am Umar Rajaee Plummer a.k.a.JahRain fromCarrHill, RockHall, St. Andrew, JamaicaW.I. and I domusic as a profession and I'malso making a career from it, where I actually do all parts of the music. I write, composeinstrumentals, engineering, singing and producing.

Telluswhatmadeyouwant tousemusic toexpressyourself andyour tenure?First, Imust saythat I thinkmusic choseme, at an earlier time onmy journey because I cannot remember decidingto domusic. I just findmyself doingmusic, and out of all the things Iwent to school and learn to do,I never once foundmyself choosing or wanting to do any of those things. Asmusic gradually justtook over me, I pushed all those other things aside that I went to school to learn. I found myselfdoingmusic, ever since I realized that Ihave thesenseof soundsandmelodyasmyFatherwasalsoa part of the music and also was a part of a band. I can remember him telling me that he used totakeme, asaninfant, tobandrehearsal. However, Istarteddoingthemusicprofessionally in2006,transitioning frommaking beats to singing, which I am doingmore than ever at this present timein reggae music.

What's the reggaemusic scene like in your city? The reggae music scene in my city has alwaysbeen on a high level. As you all know, Jamaica is the root of reggae music, meaning we are thecreator of reggae music which is now one of the most powerful music, known universally, whereeveryone in the world loves. It is also known as revolutionary music that fights for truth andequality.

Your musical influences? My musical influences, first and foremost, stems from the almightycreator who blessed me with this great gift of talent to do music. Other influences came frommyfather, Dyrick Plummer, who was and still is a part of music in many ways, you have other greatreggae artists/icons like the legendary Robert Nesta Marley (Bob Marley), Dennis Brown, PeterTosh,BurningSpear,BeresHammond,Sizzlaand the list ofpositiveandrevolutionaryartists goeson.

The typical music day for Jah Rain has always been abright and positive one, one that never dull my spirit any at all because I always coming up withconscious vibes weather I am going to build a riddim or write a song because I always inspired bythe beautiful things that’s surround so Jah Rain music day always up full and righteous.

In your estimation, is reggae music, correctly represented by it's artists?Well, I would say,in my opinion of reggae music in my city, in this time is not correctly represented because of itsmisuse and the misrepresentation. I can see where it is leaving from the love of the music to ahustling stage of themusic. In terms of the love and the appreciation for the reggaemusic, it losesits root because it has been taken over by others that don’t even know how reggae music cameabout. I think the remedy that is needed is for the people inmy city to start accepting that they arethecreatorof thiswonderfulmusiccalledreggae. Thateveryonewantsapieceof this treasure, andstart showmore love and appreciation for the music. This is the way they will start to promote itthe correct way in our city. Then the world will see it more as a precious treasure and will not tryto abuse and misuse it.

Who are some of the artists and industry folks you're connected with? I am not really connected to anyof the bigger artists in the industry at this moment, however as time goes by I know I will be connecting toa lot of them. I amcurrently inastageofpreparation for thebugstage that innodoubtwill gobblemeupsoon,so I just stay humble and keep doing the positive work that needs to be done at this moment and try not toplace focus on the hype or fame that I know will come just in time.

Whatdoes "staying current" meantoyou? What I do current to stay in themusic scene, is to alwaysdoingpositiveandconsciousmusic forthefansatall time. IneverstrayfrommyrootsandwhoJahRainrepresentsat any time at all, so I remain constant, because I am one of the changes that reggaemusic needs right nowto regain its roots and its consciousness.

What’syourmanagementsituation like? Ihaveneverworkedwithamanagerbefore , so Idon’tknowwhatit is like to have a management team working with, however this doesn’t say that I will not work with amanagement team. At theright timeandplace, onewill comethat fitsperfectwithwhat IamdoingandIhopeto have a great level of understanding towards the mission that we will set forth to carry out. My way willstill remain, everything have its own time and space, so if it means that it will be tomorrow for Jah Rain tostart work with a management team, then it will be tomorrow. For now, I still leave myself open andeveryone's opinion counts.

Howhas he internet helped the Jah Rainmovement? I must say if these promotional websites do help inmany ways, to allow others to see you and listen to your music world wide.

Any recording, productions or label deals on the horizon? Jah Rain never stops recording, but as far ashaving a record deal with a label, that has yet to come as I still remain in the preparation stages, not sayingthat I amnot ready for a record deal at any time, because these are the things I ampreparing for so I alwaysleave open for these thing in the music world.

Who are some of contemporaries you'veworkedwith or would like toworkwith?Artists that I workedwith in the past are ChakaDemus, Little John, Eddie Fiztroy and Lutan Fyah, and some of the current artistthat Iwould like toworkwith ImustsayIhaveno favoritebutas longas theyaredoingpositivemusic toupliftthemselves and mankind, Jah Rain is ready and willing to work with them.

REDIBROWN

Please tell the readers where you're from and what you do? I'm Originally from The Eastern Shore OfVirginia and over the years I've lived in Trenton, New Jersey (North Side) Bristol, Pennsylvania andPhiladelphia, Pa.

Tell us what was the deciding factor that made you want to do music and how long have you beendoing music? When I was young around 8 or 9 years old, one of my uncle's was in a band called P-Funkand he use to take me along with him to all of his band rehearsals and shows that was age appropriate forme, I remember during thedrive, hewould have cassette tapesof artist' likeTheColdKrushBrothers, SugarHill Gang, Kurtis Blow, and Grandmaster Flash playing and I would memorize the words and recite them, eventually I started putting together my own lines that I would rap to my friends and they would encourageme to let more people hear my rhymes, so I became sort of popular for my raps and I remember enteringevery school talent show using these lyrics.

What's the indie music scene like in your city? The Scene is flourishing, so much so that nearly everyyoung adult you'd encounter is either rapping, producing, engineering use computer programs, or hasfriends that are doing one of those things.

Your musical influences? Michael Jackson, Melle Mel, Run-DMC, Scarface, RedMan, Jay Z, Nas, andKillah Priest are my personal favorites and the ones that really influences everything I do musically.

Tell us about a typical music day for you? I normally rise at 7:30-8am and turn or my computer and lookto see if I have any messages or new beats that has been sent my way, if not, I'll dig through my stash toseewhat is inspiringme at that moment and begin writing, if I'm not to inspired, I'll begin to listen to previousstuff I've recorded and maybe adjust some mixes, possibly fool around with some production, or listen tosome independent music until I get my juices flowing to a level that I wanna create something new and thiswill go on throughout the entire day until around 9-10pm and this is my daily routine.

In your opinion, is the indie music in your city, correctly represented or does that need to beremedied and why? I can only say yes because, it's up to us individually to represent ourselves, most ofus don't have label situations so if youwanna be seen or heard, you've got to utilize all the resources at yourdisposal, in other words it's our duty to make noise and create interest in our music cause no one else will.

Who are some of the artists and industry folks you're connected with? I am good friends with DjSymphony and he's Raekwon The Chef and Ghostface Killah's Official Dj, Dj Juice is an Award WinningDj for MixTapes and Blend DVD's, Dj Ox is from The Legendary Crew called Da'Masta'Mindz, Shawn Lov,and Custodian of Records are a few of my good friends that are in the industry or making great movesindependently.

What do you do to stay current in a music scene that constantly changes? To tell you the truth, Istick close to the core of Hip Hop for the Simple Fact that, everything is influenced by the foundation, when I create, I'm current because I'm dealing with what's around me at that particular point in time, butI don't purposely make changes to my sound to emulate the new trends, I bring it how I feel it andwhatever the production is communicating to me.

What do you do to stay current in amusic scene that constantly changes? What is yourmanagement situation like? I managemyself, alongwithmy partner HanSolo of 3rd PhloorProduction's however, I'd love to be managed by someone that understands Hip Hop, that would take alotoff my plate and free up more time for me to focus solely on the music, I believe that being managed woulddouble my productivity. I have been approached by someone locally about being managed but honestly Ineed someone that understands the World Stage because my music is all over the world, with the help ofme and HanSolo's Networking Campaign's. I would like anyone interested to contact me though, I'm trulya self contained artist so I wouldn't be much trouble. LOL

With the advent of video sites like Youtube, Vimeo, etc, have they helped or hurt your promotionalefforts and why? Definitely have helped me because I've been blasting music Globally since 2009, yesI started late because I'm from an era where we didn't have these tools so it took me a minute to reallycomprehend it but onceyou realize that youhave theworldat your fingertips, youcanbegin tobrandyourselfand create a buzz way deeper than just your hood.

Do you have any recording, productions or label deals in the works? None at the present but i havebeen offered a ton of stuff but I've learned that there are many upstart labels out there that are using thesame tools I am so I wouldn't commit myself to anything or anyone unless they show me what they couldoffer me aside from what I already do.

Who are some of the artists you've worked with and would like to work with? I've collaborated withroughly 70 artist' from all over the world and if I'd start naming names I will leave someone out or take upto much space but everyone that I've worked with is a stepping stone to that wider audience that I'd loveto have because my name is promoted on so many projects from South Africa, Switzerland, The UK,Portugal, Germany, TheNetherlands, etc. I would like to work with all of my above influences so in the now,I have to keep grinding until they take interest in me.

What was the first project you dropped and do you have anything ready to be released? The FirstComplete Project I dropped was with HanSolo, we have an Album called "Takin' Ya Back" and that's whatweattempted todo, was take the listener back toa timewhereyougotRawandClassicHipHop.ThatAlbumis still available, along with many more at this time, my current project I have out there now is Called "BackOn The Block" and once again, I'm trying to create an atmosphere of early day Hip Hop, Classic times. Itmay sound like it's about drugs or something cause I'm speaking of The Block but I don't wanna confuseanyone because it's about those times where we hung out with our crew on the Block, simply listening tothe latest music and kicking it.

ILLBEAST

Please tell the readers where you're from and what you do? I am a Rap/Hip Hop Artist and go by thestage name/Artist Name ILL BEAST aka ANTLIFE from Bushwick Brooklyn N.Y. now residing in OrlandoFlorida.

Tell us what was the deciding factor that made you want to do music and how long have you beendoing music? My deciding factor in recording music and being a part of an amazing culture was the formof being able to express my emotions and real life situations in an art form of poetry, on a nasty drum linewith a rhythm and many other sounds collectively to form a unique sound known as Rap/Hip Hop. I startedrapping and doing cyphers on the corners of Bushwick since 1993, and to this day I still have the passionI possessed since day one.

What's the indie music scene like in your city? In Brooklyn it has always been a major movement for alot of us, in the new location where I rest Orlando FL, it has flourished to a well rounded city that supportsindie/Underground Hip Hop/ Rap since underground ever existed. There's a lot of M.C.'s and many of themtour in Rap Battles and such, as well as in many performances. Etc. Basically it's a True Hip Hop movementin any one of my cities.

Your musical influences? Rakim, Krs-one, Kool G Rap, LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, Nas, Jay-z, BiggieSmalls, Wu-Tang, Big Pun, Big L, Boot Camp Click, Smith-n-Wessun, and every lyrical M.C. you can thinkof.

Tell us about your movement. My movement I feel is very simple, create real Hip Hop/Rap for the fansof once true music. Never lose the love or the hunger of making good music. Could be a simple reply butI invite a listen to anything I have made and you can hear passion, love, hunger and skills. So HIP HOP ismy movement!

In your opinion, is the indie Hip Hop in your city, correctly represented ? In Brooklyn I have no clueat thispoint, but inOrlandoFL, it has reachedaplatowhereeveryartist hasachanceandmanyopportunitiesto develop their skills and take it to higher levels than the norms. Many indie labels aremakingmajormoves,a lot more than others. What the city lacks is unity in the game, how it used to be. This city would be a lotgreater with more unity.

Whoaresomeof theartistsand industry folksyou'reconnectedwith?PrinceMarqueeDee (Fat boys),Sadat X, Dj Evil Dee, E. Smitty CEOof FatBoyRecords, Execs fromUniversal and IslandDef Jam.Majorityof ties come from twitter, and also having a digital distribution deal with Island Def Jam, which opened upthe doors to speak with a few known producers that recently were signed to major indie labels.

Staying current ? The word is trying! lol. Yeah musically I have since released a feature about 4 monthsagoor less. I really had to learn the valueofmarketingandpromotionsonline, which Iwill discuss in question(12). So I dedicated a lot of time to brand the ILLBEASTpresence in a higher scale, mentally and physically.Reaching different people and exploiting my music to a wider audience.

What’s yourmanagement situation like? I haveworkedwith a fewpeople trying to get this role in positionbut it hasn't quite worked out yet. Still looking for someone concrete willing to take this journey and pushour limits to higher levels. I do have a skill that the world needs to hear, and so have had plenty of positivethings to say about my movement. So all it takes is the right person to come along and make this happenfor us. My doors are always open for conversation, so hit me up and lets make this happen

far everyone who has, they have had plenty of positive things to say about my movement. So all it takes is the rightperson to come along and make this happen for us. My doors are always open for conversation, so hit me up and letsmake this happen.

With the advent of videosites, howhave theyhelpedor hurt your promotional efforts andwhy?Well inmy caseI would say helped, because on a bigger scale themajority of people that has seenmy actual footage have been reallycaptivated, I mean to the point where people were saying I love you, loving the fact of the energy and skill displayedin a visual. It's an amazing feeling to have such a response. Especially coming from the bottom, and still in the bottom. It helps artist's reach other countries and many states within USA. So it really helps promote your cause as an artist.

Do you have any recording, productions or label deals in the works? I had 2 offers on the table, 2 in whichenclosed a distribution deal, but had to put upfront out of pocket cost to one of them in order to seek that deal. Whichin that point in time I wasn't ready financially to take that risk. It felt good though to really be in that position and be soclose to a dream. Right now I am in the works of a project in which some A&R's are waiting to hear and hopefully theright decision can be made. For the mean while I am currently in a Digital Distribution Deal with Island Def Jam andalso WMA Label (World Music Alliance Label), so it's all about playing the right part of the game in which I haveextended my knowledge in. Which is dropping the right single and moving along to independent. Using all theMarketing and Promotion skills and putting it to the test.

Outside of the video sites, how has social networking improved your growth and worth in terms of artistry?Man it has improvedme a lot. I have crazy rotation online, also through college stations likeWPRK91.5 fm, show titled"Early Vibez Reloaded" hosted by Dj Lucky Lefty formerly known as Dj ForHire on thursday nights from 11pm-1am,also on saturdayswith"ItsOurShow" hosted byConshus from5pm-7pmwprkdj.org or through tune in appWPRK (91.5fm) located in Orlando FL Rollins College. I have worked with artists from the UK (Chander Emm) formerly known asDirty Lanks, 2 Duce and Dynasty Bull Gang from Toronto, I have worked with producers from the UK, Coatse Beats,ItsDaKiid Beats, producers from Spain, Don Asero. I mean the list goes on. Everything is online now a days. Beforeit was all in the physical, and it made it that much harder, now since all these labels and artist's are online, it's easierto reach and connect with many people. One just has to have the right mind set and play your cards right. I am livingproof of that.

Take us back in time to your first project and do you have anything in the pipeline? My first project is titled "TheRaw" mixtape available on Datpiff: http://www.datpiff.com/mixtapes-detail.php?id=351869 I am currently working onmany features to drop within weeks and also a newmixtape yet not titled nor a date set to drop. But hoping within thefall sometime. I am just currently working on myself and bettering my situation as well as my music to a bigger extent.I know what I am capable of and know what I want so no need to hurry. I define longevity!

What canyour listeners expect fromyouandwhere canwe find yourmusic? They can expectmuchmoremusic,a whole different sound and awhole new and improvedmovement withmuch definition. Also I have beenworkingwitha team of artist's by the name of The G.I. League. Which a mixtape has already been dropped on Datpiff by the Titleof " Time Is Of The Presence" : http://www.datpiff.com/GI-League-Time-Is-Of-The-Presence-mixtape.117870.html Anew mixtape is in the works set to drop mid-summer sometime titled by "In B.A.R.S. we trust" if I'm not mistaken. S/O to $moke-n-Mirrorz and the rest of the clan.

Your plans, short term and long term? My short term plans are to find the right representation of my brand andexpand to different levels of success. My long term goal is to have my corporation established with many branchesof businesses, restaurants, clothing line, management for artist's, andmany other things. My biggest goal is to be ableto have jobs for all my true people's that stuck it out through thick and thin and give em a nice reward. Also havemanyplans in building charities which I am a part of, like Share The Mic and sponsor a few local charities for A.I.D.Sawareness and cancer. Stuff like that, just share the wealth with the less fortunate, I am from the bottom, and I knowthe feeling.

What are the most important qualities in a mate? Loyalty and trust.

Doyouhavemore respect forawife thatknowsherhusband is cheatingandstaysoramistresswho sleeps with someone else's husband? No I don't at all.... I think you need to be very insecureto go with someones husband, and you should never forgive cheating, your worth more than that.

If you had to choose between modeling or sex and had to give it up for a year, which wouldit be and why? I'd give up modeling, its not something i take to seriously,I've been lucky and I've had agreat time doing it,but i have other things going on in my life also.

What kind of stigmas do you think, have been placed on you since being in the modelingbusiness?People have said to be they though id lovemyself, that couldn't be further then the truth....Whenthey've got to know me they've been shocked that I'm just an ordinary girl.

Please tell the readers who you are, where you're from and what you do? My name is Lornnah Stewart. I’m asinger, songwriter, dancer andmodel from theUK. I’manartistwhoknowswhere I’mgoing.Goingonpublic reactions,I’m also someone with a distinctive style.

Tell us the passion you have for making music and how long have you been doing music? Music to me is auniversal language, but one where it’s a story that can be shared with everybody. It makes you happy, sad, tells ofheartbreak, or being in love. I started writing from the age of ten years old and also recorded my first track at the ageof twelve.

How do folks react to the indie music scene in the UK? In the city where I am right now, tends to be either rockmusic or rap (some would refer to as grime in the UK). However it tends to vary from city to city overall in the UK Iwould say more grime, dance

Some your musical influences? I have such a various range of musical influences for many different reasons butthey include, Adele, Coldplay, Jessie J, Emeli Sande, The Script, Janet Jackson, Faith Evans, Aaliyah, Mary J Blige,Kelis, Prince to name but a few.

Howare you received as a female recording artist in your area and howdo you handle your "everyday"musicbusiness? I feel that I am well received in my area as a female recording artist as well as other areas as I am doingmusic that’s a little different to what everyone else is doing. My everyday music business is mainly getting out thereby promoting my music via media or social networking sites.

In your opinion, is the indie music in your city, correctly represented or does that need to be remedied andwhy? I feel themusicscene insomeUKcities tend tohavecertaingenre’s thatgetachance. If youaredoingsomethingdifferent or out of the box no matter how good sometimes it works appealing to fans abroad before being acceptedback home. Floetry, Adele, Rita Ora, Jessie J for example.

Whoare someof the artists you'veworkedwith and are connectedwith if they are different? I haveworkedwithvarious artists who are successful in the UK. However Natalie Stewart AKA “The Floacist” from the group “Floetry”is my cousin. Natalie would bemore known to your readers. I would describe her music as Neo Soul as I tend to writeand perform other genres of music.

What do you do to stay current in amusic scene that constantly changes? I believe that it is important to try andstay true to who you are as a songwriter and artist. However I do listen to other artists both well known and unsigned. There is always change but you have to appeal to as many as possible. Sometimes just asking your fans or regularfolk can really help

What’s your management situation like? I continue to get approached by managers, however I have signed amanagement deal with a heavy hitter who’s hot on the scene. They understand that as a female artist and songwriter,I still like to always have a hands on approach.

Video sites like YouTube, Vimeo, etc, have helped a great many artists, how have they effected your grind(good and bad)? In a good way it helps venues, or music execs see for themselves any previous performance I havedone and whether they like me. In a bad way it can be a little more difficult and takes a little time to convince as thereare many other singers out there so you got to stand out to the rest

Do you have any recording, productions or label deals in the works? I am in talks regarding a publishing deal. This is with a major record label. I will announce details of this once everything is finalized. This will also be on thewebsite

What was the first project you dropped and do you have any current projects? I completed a number of projectsfrom2012.Forany futureprojects youcancheckonmywebsite:www.LornnahStewart.com.This is updatedwithnewsof what I’m doing every few weeks

What canyour listeners expect fromyouandwhere canwe find yourmusic? I love experimentingwithmymusic. So expect something for everybody. R&B, Hip-hop, Pop, Acoustic sets, Reggae and Dance. You can either checkmy website www.LornnahStewart.com or go to my YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCp1ruJSQB0TFyE75B8RKP-Q.

Plans... Short term and long term and please leave us with some lessons on what indie artists can do tomaximize their musical objectives? Short-term, to be everywhere and share my music wherever I can. Long-termworking abroad wherever I’m received whether it’s the US, Europe or beyond. You need to stay true to you, get yourmusic out there, try getting on radio stations that have air-time for new artists and don’t give up!

How can the listeners contact you? You can contact me via my website www.LornnahStewart.com. MyTwitter@LornnahStewart1. Email me: [email protected]
