ETP Service Terminal Commands Overview of ETP Service Terminal Commands

    Id:0900d80580825c29Confidential

1 Overview of ETP Service Terminal CommandsService Terminal is a visual display terminal connected to either a serial, Ethernet or BSC MML interface to the ETP. Service terminal is used in monitoring of the system as well as in fault investigations. Operator starts a service terminal session either on a serial terminal physically connected to an ETP unit or via an ethernet interface using the telnet protocol or via the MML interface by establishing a remote service terminal session using the appropriate MML command. Serial port settings used in ETP Service Terminal are as follows :

    Baud Rate : 9600 Data Bits : 8 Parity : None Stop Bits : 1 Flow Control : None

1.1 Service Terminal in ETP UnitThe ETP Release 1 Service Terminal functionality is based on Linux shell running on Management Core of Octeon. DSPs do not have a direct Service Terminal interface. Commands to the DSPs are sent via the Octeon.

ETP Service Terminal operating environment is depicted in the below figure:

Overview of ETP Service Terminal Commands

1.2 Special Characteristics of Service Terminal commandsETP Service terminal commands are different from the MML commands. The ETP Service Terminal commands follow the Linux command syntax. Following points needs to be taken care of when using the ETP Service Terminal commands:

The ETP Service Terminal commands follow the Linux command syntax i.e. the parameters are separated via a space separator and commands are considered to be complete and interpreted when the Enter key is pressed.

Help on ETP commands is obtained by typing etphelpetphelp ?

ETP Service Terminal commands are case sensitive. The commands are entered using lower case letters.

The syntax of every command is documented in this Manual. Detailed help on each command and its syntax is obtained by typing etphelp . The parameters are to be interpreted as explained below:

1.3 Service Terminal AuthenticationService Terminal authenticates every operator from DX (with username and password) for the Serial and Telnet interface.

g No Authentication is done for the Service Terminal sessions originating from the BSC MML interface.

    Parameter Syntax

    Interpretation

[] Specifies that the parameter Parameter is Optional and its value is not mandatory to specify. e.g. the syntax of help command is etphelp [] this command can be executed as:

    etphelp dai or

    etphelp

{Parameter} Specifies that the parameter Parameter is conditionally optional and needs to be specified only under a certain condi-tion, as explained in the command description.e.g. the syntax of dbu command is dbu {:} this command can be executed as:

    dbu oct or

dbu dsp:1 but not dbu dsp

Specifies that the parameter Parameter is mandatory param-eter and its value must be specified. e.g. the syntax of ecm command is ecm this command can be executed as:

    ecm 3

1.4 Service Terminal promptThe ETP Service Terminal prompt displays the ETP Identifiers.

Service Terminal prompt can be a combination of any of the suffixes specified above e.g. if the user has enabled both the continuous mode and Logging mode, the prompt will look like ETPE/0/1/C/L>.

1.5 Service Terminal ConnectivityETP Service Terminal can be accessed through a Serial Interface, Ethernet interface or via the BSC MML interface. The Sections below highlights how to access the ETP Service Terminal through the various available interfaces.

1.5.1 Access through Serial InterfaceETP Service Terminal can be accessed through the Serial Interface. The operator needs to configure a connection in the software to choose the correct COM port. In case the operator is using Windows OS then a third party software like TeraTerm can be used to access the ETP Service Terminal. As soon as the operator connects the terminal through the Serial Interface and press enter, the Service Terminal login prompt would appear.

1.5.2 Access through Ethernet interfaceService Terminal can be accessed through the Ethernet Interface. This requires that the operator has a Telnet Client from the source machine. For e.g.: if the operator is trying to access the ETP Service terminal through a Windows machine, then the scenario would be as explained below:

The operator opens a command prompt and enters the following command:

    telnet 139.85.241.14

Where 139.85.241.14 is the IP Address of the ETP management interface (i.e ETPSIG-m ip address). The operator would get the Service Terminal login prompt.

    Prompt Explanation

ETPX/Y/Z> The ST Prompt displays the ETP Identifier.X is the ETP Variant, Y is the ETP unit type and Z is the etp index

    Possible Suffixes Explanation

/C If the continuous mode is enabled the ST prompt will change so as to indicate to the user that this mode has been enabled. The prompt will be as: ETPE/1/0/C>

/L If the esl command has been run, the Service Terminal Logging mode has been switched ON. The prompt will be as: ETPE/1/0/L>

Overview of ETP Service Terminal Commands

1.5.3 Access through BSC/MML interfaceService Terminal can be accessed through the BSC MML Interface. This requires that the operator has already logged in to the Service Terminal of BSC and there the operator executes BSC MML command to login to the Service Terminal of ETP. Operator would use commands ZRS/ZRSS to connect through BSC MML interface.

1.6 Service Terminal Commands OutputAll the ST Commands will contain a header, which displays the Date and Timestamp, so as to enable the user to do offline analysis, especially in commands related Statistics measurement. The format of the header is as follows:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> Command XXX executed on [dd/mm/yyyy Hr:Min:Sec:Micro-Seconds] Command etphelp executed on [01/04/2009 12:06:36:260001] , e.g.: The operator wants to redirect the output of the ps command, the operator can type ps > ps_output.txt, This does not generate any output on the Service Terminal Screen but redirects the command output which is gen-erated as a direct result of this command to a file called ps_output.txt. The contents of this file can then be seen by typing the command cat ps_output.txt on the service terminal screen.

    2.5.3.19 antiskid

FunctionAt high CPU load ETP starts delimiting log levels even though the operator turned them on earlier. This automatic log contol mechanism is called antiskid which helps to control CPU load in high load conditions. This command can be used to disable/enable this mechanism. By default it is enabled.

g Disabling antiskid should be done at operators own risk. Since CPU load delimiting mechanism is turned off, there is higher risk of CPU load crossing barriers.Syntax
