Nestled in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains along the shore of Lake Champlain is the historic Town of Essex, one of the most unspoiled ensembles of Federal and Greek Revival village architecture in rural America. The hamlet of Essex, founded in the 18th century, was listed in its entirety on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.With a minute population (671 in 2010 census) and abundant shoreline, wilderness and pastoral farmland; magnificent outdoor activities (hiking, cross country skiing, biking, sailing, etc.); locally grown, farm fresh food; and a surprising abundance of cultural and artistic resources, Essex offers a unique and enriching lifestyle. And yet, despite it’s bucolic, rural setting, Essex enjoys convenient access to ferry, airport and train transport making it convenient and accessible to visitors throughout the Eastern United State and Canada.
