A la clase de español Welcome to 7th Grade Spanish I!
This year, we will work together in this next phase of your study of Spanish. In this course, you will expand what you can do in the language and what you know about the cultures that speak Spanish.
Some of the topics we will explore include: • Personal descriptions • Likes & dislikes • School schedules & activities • Leisure activities & our community !PARTICIPATE! A variety of different activities are planned in order to make learning Spanish both functional and fun! Be prepared to play, sing, move, act, converse, write, and create – all in Spanish! This is a class where you will be encou raged to pa r t i c i pa te and experiment with the Spanish language.
I will be speaking Spanish 90% of the t ime, and at first, you may not understand every word. That’s to be expected. Part of learning a language is trying to make sense of what you hear and read, and then, trying to respond.

BE ENGAGED! In order to learn, you must be an active participant in the process. This means that it is crucial that you be involved in every lesson at all times. Answer and ask questions, volunteer to participate in demonstrations and discussions, and cooperate with group members. Be prepared for class; bring all your materials and completed assignments.
BE PRESENT! In order to learn, you must be present -‐ both physically and mentally. It’s difficult to make up work missed in a world language classroom. Most of what takes place during class is listening to Spanish being spoken, then responding through speaking. These communicative interactions are impossible to re-‐create when you are absent from class. If you do have to miss a class, please check our Edmodo site for updates and assignments: www.hcpss.edmodo.com/home. You can also contact me directly through Edmodo, or via my contact information.
BE RESPECTFUL! You have the right to a safe learning environment and you are also responsible for maintaining such an environment. Be the person you want others to be. In addition to the CMS discipline policies, the following procedures allow Spanish class to operate with few disruptions:
• 1st Warning -‐ Verbal reminder to be on task • 2nd Warning -‐ Yellow Card: Talk to Sra. Espitia after class • 3rd Warning -‐ Red Card: Parent contact & lunch
detention
BE CONNECTED! We will be setting up accounts with various websites to supplement what we do in class. These websites include, but are not limited to: • Realidades I Online Textbook • Edmodo (a sheltered, online classroom management system) • Twitter @SraEspitia (follow me for resources in Spanish)
Students are responsible for following all HCPSS Policies, including these: • Use these sites for educational purposes only. Everything posted is relevant and
appropriate for school. • Keep usernames and passwords secure and do not share them with other students
for any reason. • Access only those websites approved by Sra. Espitia while in class.
