Indian Test captain AnilKumble took the cricketing
world by surprise, an-nouncing his retirement
from international cricket atthe end of the third Test be-tween India and Australia atFeroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. Theleading wicket-taker for Indiain both the Test and One-DayInternational arena, Jumboas he is fondly called, has beena brave soldier of Indian crick-et for the last 18 years, playinga whopping 132 Test matchesand 271 ODIs.
The 38-year-old leg spinner, who has captured 619 Testsscalps and is third on the list ofhighest wicket-takers in Testmatches after Shane Warneand Muttiah Muralitharan, in-
jured his little finger on his lefthand during the course of theDelhi Test but was back in thefield after a minor operation, showing great commitment atthe fag end of his career. Allthrough his career Kumble hasbeen known for this commit-ment and no Indian cricket fan
will forget his heroics in Anti-
gua in 2002 when a bandagedKumble played with a frac-tured jaw to deliver an excep-tional spell.
Kumble, wearing his trade-mark faded blue Team Indiacap, was given a guard of hon-our by his teammates beforestepping into his favouriteground to bowl for one lasttime. The fans also joined in tocelebrate a great cricketing ca-reer.
In 1999, he had picked up all10 wickets in the second in-nings against Pakistan at the
same venue to become onlythe second Test bowler toachieve the feat. After playingfor 18 years, it was a tough de-cision to take I wanted toquit after the series. But afterthe injury here, I knew I wouldnot be 100 percent fit for Nag-pur and I did not want to letmy team down. Ideally I wouldhave liked to end with a winhere but I am confident of seal-ing the series in Nagpur, saidKumble in the post-match pre-sentation.

Never start straight outof college. First, workfor some five to six
years; get a hang ofthings in the world of business. This is one golden rule most suc-cessful entrepreneurs often advo-cate. However, there are peoplewho have proved them wrong. And 23-year-old Waqar Azmi,
founder and CEO of Sutra HR andSutraJobs.com, is one among thelatter.
In a country where establishedcompanies are finding it difficultto attract and retain talent, it is no
surprise if start-ups find the questeven tougher. Sutra HR was bornto help start-up firms find the
right talent as well as to provideaspiring entrepreneurs find theright start-up to bootstrap with.
How it all began Waqar completed his Engi-
neering in 2006 from Rajiv Gand-hi Institute of Technology inMumbai, but did not apply forplacements or even appear for aninterview. I was clear I wanted todo something different, he ex-plains. After college, I was in-volved with a couple of start-ups,either directly or indirectly, andone thing I noticed was thatfunds, ideas and infrastructure
were not a problem for start-ups.Rather, it was finding the rightpeople that came as a hugechallenge.
In December 2007, Sutra HRtook form from his home, with
just an email pitch, logo and
business cards, which somefriends contributed. I boot-strapped the company with nomoney, says Waqar, who has al-
ways been keen on starting so-mething independently since hisschool days. In college he ran ane-commerce business, whichfetched him Rs. 10,000 a month.
But, is starting a business assimple as Waqar makes it sound?
Well, his travails started with hir-ing people for his own firm. Itook help of a social networkingsite and a couple of references tostart my hiring process, which
went on for a month.
30 and moreFortunately, Lady Luck was
with this young entrepreneur
right from the companys incep-tion. Once he had Rs. 1 lakh in thebank account, which he got from
clients, Sutra was ready for oper-ation with a start-up office andtwo employees.
We have been making profitssince inception, in fact even be-fore we went into operation, says the computer graduate. To-day, we have over 30 start-upsregistered with us, and we will beclocking revenue of Rs. 30 to Rs.40 lakh for the current financial
year.
Competitive turfsSutras biggest competitor is
job boards on blogs and other HRcompanies who have clients inthe new-age media. The peoplesolution company also boasts oftwo offices in Mumbai and islooking at expanding its horizons.
We are next gearing up to tapinternational market startbased abroad, Waqar says.

If we were to lose another six players out of our current team it has the potential to crip-ple us. I dont know how we can be competitive if that happens again. The hard part is
theres no way to put an end to it when the ICL keeps luring players with huge money. Cricket isgoing to suffer. Young players who are not even at their peak are being lured by the dollar signs.

Arsenal, stunned at homeby Hull a month ago, be-came the latest team to fallfoul of Rory Delaps longthrow-ins. Ricardo Fullerout-jumped everyone tohead one in before Seyi Olo-finjana got the second afteranother Delap missile leftArsenals defence flailing.Arsenal then lost Van Persie, five minutes after he cameon as a substitute. Walcottwas carried off on a stretch-er clutching his shoulderand striker Emmanuel Ade-bayor also went off injured.
Gael Clichys late effort wasno consolation for managerArsene Wenger.
Two goals for CristianoRonaldo and one each byMichael Carrick and Neman-ja Vidic had United seeming-ly cruising after an hour. ButHull, who netted earlierthrough Daniel Cousin, pulled one back throughBernard Mendy and set up atense last eight minuteswith a Geovanni penalty.
Not many teams willcome to Old Trafford, scorethree goals and come awaywith nothing, said Hullmanager Phil Brown.

Your transition to the small screenhas been smooth and successful.Your comments?
Im happy that whatever step Ive takenhas worked out right. Its not been easy andpeople discouraged me when I started off.But now when they say Im successful, itfeels great.
What is your recipe for success?
No pains, no gains; thats my motto. There are no shortcuts to success and youhave to work through the obstacles thrownat you.
Radikaa the producer. Tell us more.I think I am a good producer and have
broken the stereotype that women cantcross from one threshold to the other. Iusually get annoyed when people come upto me with chauvinistic ideas. Radaan isthe only production company to have tou-ched upon different genres. Reality shows, humour, mythology, weve done it all.
Why was Thiruvilayadal stoppedabruptly?
The marketing strategy did not matchmy expectations. I wasnt happy with it.
Selvi and then Arasi how did itevolve? Are you planning a trilogy?
It was the first time a story was wovenout of an existing story and it was also a
marketing strategy. Selviwas about friend-ship, whereas in ArasiIve concentrated onthe mother-daughter aspect. I hope thereis a trilogy. Lets see. I usually dont planthings.
How do you relate to Arasi?
She is a very strong woman and that ishow I relate to her. She is an inspirationdrawn from M.R.Radha, Sivaji Ganesanand Kiran Bedi. I draw a lot of inspirationfrom men.
Most serials are women-oriented.What makes Arasi stand apart?
In my serials, all characters are etched insuch a way that they are equally important.
A lot of brainstorming goes in moulding thecharacters and choosing the actors.
What do you think is the biggestchallenge on the small screen?
On the small screen you have to deliver ablockbuster everyday. Otherwise you lose
your audience. We have to work 24X7 andits hectic.
Sarathkumar as a husbandHe is a quiet and reserved person. He is
very fitness conscious.
Can we expect new twists in Arasi?A lot (smiles).

Hathaway had the role of a re-forming rehabber, and wantedher hair to look the part by giv-ing it a choppy look.
When I was reading the char-acter Agyness Deyn had justcome out and emerged as thisnew, young force. I just picturedKym (Hathaways character) as apunker who was probably highand decided to cut it and itdidnt work, Fox News quotedHathaway as saying.
I went to my hairstylist andhe actually let me help cut it off;
it was fun, she said. The actress, whose personal
life has been going through
some troubled times, is still do-ing good professional, as one ofthe most in-demand actresses.
But Hathaway does not let allthe fame and fortune go to herhead, and states that someday itwill all come to an end.
Nothing lasts its comingand its going to crush me atsome point, she stated.
If you go into acting andthink you are always going to beat the top of your game youresetting yourself up for defeat.Right now things are easier, butI dont expect it to last, she add-ed.
