Because it is still uncertain whether the Doel III andTihange II nuclear power stations will restartoperation, the government is drawing up contingency plans to get through the winter without blackouts.Operating gas-fired power stations is no longer viabledue to the rise of renewable energy.
But while Belgian entrepreneurs want to get involved inthe construction of medium-sized wind turbines,and Electrawinds will be listed on the stock market,green energy companies are complaining about changing subsidy rules. Despite, and perhaps to some extent because of the freeze on gas and electricity prices, new energy companies are chipping away at Electrabel’s market share. In other words: energy is a hot topic that leavesno one unmoved.

Currently most energyconsumers and producers buy or sell energy for anEndex-reference on the OTC markets. We enable our clients to go further and optimize their procurement ondifferent energy markets. The Powerhouse platform gives full transparency in energy consumption and production and provides direct access to the power and gas markets.Clients can buy and sell energy on the OTC markets, the day-ahead market (Belpex) and the imbalance market. More markets: this means more flexibility, more control and more ways to increase profits. Next to this we will pay attention to cross border optimization. Powerhouse is unique in offering access to both the Belgian and the Dutch energy markets, enabling clients to take advantage of price differences.Last but not least we will address the concept of imbalance steering, i.e. adjusting consumption or production to actual, intraday prices. This concept, developed by Powerhouse and widely used by our Dutch clients, has become veryinteresting for the Belgian market since the new imbalance regime was implemented by Elia on 1/1/2012.

IntroductIon
the share of the proces cooling cost in the total energy cost ofcompanies is mostly high and increases steadily.the allowable emission of greenhouse gases of industrial coolinginstallations is continiously further restricted since the early nineties:
• More severe requirements are imposed on the cooling fluida regarding the stratospheric ozone layer depletion, the contribution to the greenhouse effect, safety etc...
• For the cooling processes steadily higher performances are required in order to lower their energy consumption and the accompanying CO2-emission according the EU Climate Plan 2020. Integrated control and maintenance of proces cooling installations is therefore of utmost importance.

This implies however that new sites have to be found, which can become a complex challenge in densely populated areas like Belgium. Discomfort due to noise and shadow has to be reduced and risk of ice-throw has to be managed to comply with legal requirements, as well as to increase goodwill for the projects in the local communities. Traditional solutions for noise, shadow and ice management can have a severe impact on the yield of the windfarm and thus on the profitability of a project. In this session we would like to present you with some state-of-the-art solutions in order to deal with theserequirements without jeopardizing the profitability of your project. Noise management based on customized power curves, fully automated shadow management and innovative de-icing solutions. These solutions also call for powerful and flexible SCADA systems in order to allow the operator to act quickly in changing circumstances over the lifetime of the project.

description:In the frame of an agreement with Belwind NV, the Belgian leader in the production of alternative energy derived from offshore wind farms, Alstom will install end of this year its offshoreproto- type of the 6MW Haliade 150 wind turbine at the Belwind Phase 2 windfarm located at 45km from the coast off the Bligh Bank. The Belwind concession is highly representative of the typical conditions for wind farms in the North Sea and will allow to validate the operation of the new technology as well as the maintenance and connection aspects. Alstom Grid has been pioneering the way for offshore wind farm grid connections with the design and construction of the first offshore substations in the UK and Germany. From these collaborations have come both fully integrated topside solutions and also self-floating and self-install-ing solutions that remove the need for the mobilisation of scarce and expensive marine crane spreads. For offshore wind farms that are remote (>50 km) from the coastline, direct current often provides the best techno-economic solution for transmission of power to the shore. For this purpose, Alstom Grid has developed the HVDC MaxSine technology, which combines its extensive knowledge of HVDC systems and Voltage Source Converters, using chain link technology.

This seminar give the participants a view on the current situation with facts and figures from the regions and the federal level. Apart from that, a precise and detailed growth path is necessary, and at all levels, substantial ambition is required to achieve and even go beyond the 20-20-20 goals. A well balanced energy mix of all renewable energies for heath and power has to be developed further and has to be accelerated with greater pace.
