Data is king. Data is Life.

Within each Data lies the destiny of a people. A destiny of a generation.

The wealth or poverty of a nation

FACTS & FIGURES

THE PATHWAY TO GROWTH OR STAGNATION LIES WITHIN DATA.

That is why “I know” with all certainty that the 50-70% solution to the;TOP 5 NIGERIAN CHALLENGES;

Identity CrisisSecurity Threats

Resource MismanagementPower Tussle

Misplacement of priorities

Is National Central Database that will be managed by diverse invisible layers of young and passionate experts coalition

Issue of database is a complex one that I wouldn’t even attempt to bore you with here. Lets just flip to the next slide to view the data/figures that defines our nation and the modern digital landscape that we live

in

Page 11: Digital fun fair stakeholders forum

In 31st October 2011 Nigerian population increased to 166million from 140 million in 2006 which represent 3.2%growth rate meaning that the country’s population maydouble in the next 18 years.

Young people aged 10-24 years constitute approximately33% or 54, 780, 000 of the Nigerian population.

MATCH THE FIGURES

All things being equal; In Nigerian Education model of6:3:3:4Secondary school life circles out at 18 years and Highereducation life circles out between 24-26 years whichmeans that all the 33% of Nigerian Population are indifferent levels of learning institutions

A generation is made up of 40 years. That is as the 33% ofNigerians are circling out of the learning institutions thecurrent generation will be circling out of active or directproductivity as the current Nigerian life expectancy is 48years

The point is that the hope of A NEW NIGERIA ……is the33% identified above. Where are this 33% locatedcurrently? Within diverse learning institutions. What is thestate of our learning institutions/education system atwhole? Can we trust the system to produce a generationthat will birth our dream Nigeria? Which kind of valuesystem both the spoken & modelled is the systemtransmitting? the generations before the currentgeneration population has failed. Are we also going to failthis 33% like those before us?

Poverty and InequalityIn Nigeria, the number of those in poverty increased from 27%in 1980 to 46% in 1985; declined slightly to 42% in 1992 andincreased very sharply to 70% by 1999 (Democracy Year) what isthe solution? RIGHT EDUCATION!

Women and Girls49.2% of Nigerian population are women. 46% of women (aged15- 49) are “illiterates” while 38% do not participate in decisionmaking. The proportion of seats held by women in the NationalParliament (Senate and House of Representatives) increased to7.5% in 2008 because of the like of some women that workedout their heart but the figure decreased to 5% in 2011 becauseof “attitudinal conspiracy” between some women and their mencounter part to pull Nigeria down. The current administrationhas declared 35% women inclusion but that is not the real issue. What is going on in the ministries that are headed by womencurrently? Are they better of the ones headed by their mencounter part? My opinion they are of the same generation. 21st

century illiteracy is not just inability to read and write butinability to acquire the RIGHT EDUCATION!

Reproductive Health and Rights9 out of every 10 women aged 15-49 do not use any modernmethod of contraceptives while fertility is valued anddemanded at approximately 6 children. Nigeria has one of thehighest maternal deaths globally. 52,900 women die frompregnancy or childbirth complications annually and only 39%of women are delivered by skilled birth attendants. What isthe solution? RIGHT EDUCATION!

Oby Ezekwesili told us at enigeria that the 75% of thechildren of the poor are trapped within Nigerian PublicEducation System

RIGHT EDUCATION

Boards such as Waec, Jamb, Neco, Ume, Nabte

d etc Reports

The finding further reveals that at least 87% of students inany given classroom are NOT auditory or text basedlearners but either visual or visual kinesthetic learnersbecause they have grown up that way in the new digitallandscape, they are digital natives who are wired formultimedia therefore “listen and remembermethodology” or “textbook based learning” will onlyproduce the kind of reports we have from diverseexamination boards like WAEC, JAMB, NECO, etc becausethe attention span of these kids is less than 0.7% and it’snot of their own making, it’s the landscape where theyfind themselves and the early the decision makers realizethat this digital change is a fundamental change the earlywe create the systems that will help these children todiscover and unleash their potentials for nationaldevelopment.

21st Century FactorsThe finding that the eye processes and interpretsimages 60,000 times faster than it does wordsbecause the brain is much more suited to processingvisual information than anything else is a criticalfactor to put into serious consideration in designingand delivery of our curriculum.

It’s proven that the nerve cells devoted to visualprocessing account for about 30% of the brain’scortex, compared to only 8% for touch and 3% forhearing.

CULPRIT OF THE REDUCING ATTENTION SPAN: ATTENTION SEEKERS
