Click on the “Current Students” tab and then select “Academic Advising”. Please use this for all future requests. If you have comments or suggestions about the form please e-mail Brittany Naylor at [email protected]. Beta Gamma Sigma spotlight This spring you may see some of your peers being invited to Beta Gamma Sigma, the international honor society serving business pro- grams accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive in an AACSB accredited program. To be eligible for membership, Texas State MBA students must have completed at least 40 percent (18 hours) of MBA courses and rank in the top 20 percent of students in the program based on their Texas State GPA. Because students’ grades are typically higher in graduate programs than undergraduate, the cutoff for MBA students is usually around 3.91 but fluctuates per semester based on overall performance. Policy Spotlight: Withdrawal & Conditional Admission When a student goes to zero hours for a semester, the Registrar’s Office requires that the student fill out an official withdrawal form. This does not affect future enrollment or status in the MBA program overall, it simply allows you to drop all of your classes for that semester. Students that enter the program under terms of Conditional Admission must earn a B or higher in each of their first three classes, not a B average. This means if a student takes six hours and makes one A and one C in their first semester (a B average), they will not have met the conditions of their acceptance and will not be allowed to continue in the MBA program. ARE YOU GRADUATING IN MAY? Are you on track to graduate in December? Congratulations! Your last semester in the MBA program is likely to be a busy one but there is one date you need to make sure is on your calendar: MARCH 11. Texas State University requires that students apply for graduation and March 11 is the deadline to do this. Please note that applying to graduate does not obligate you to partic- ipate in either Commencement or Hooding. Instead, it ensures you can actually graduate with your MBA and receive your diploma. We’d love to see you at both Commencement and Hooding but this is really more important than the ceremonies. Please be aware the Texas State Graduate College does not grant waivers so it is critically important that you meet this deadline and apply to graduate. If you miss the deadline you will not graduate. McCoy Graduate Program Contacts Do you have a question, concern, or just need to be pointed in the right direction? It’s not uncommon for peers and co-workers to ask lots of questions once they find out you are pursuing your MBA at Texas State University. And while we love referrals, we’ll make answering questions about the McCoy MBA program even easier by doing an on-site information session. How does it work? If you have a group of at least five co-workers who are interested in learning more about the MBA programs at Texas State we will come to you--with food, of course--and do a very brief presen- tation with time for Q&A, usually about 30-40 minutes over lunch. We’ve also found that HR department folks like to jump in and talk about tuition reimbursement benefits (if applicable) and we love that, too. All we need is a meeting space--conference rooms work great--and a list of people. We’ll email menu options and make it happen. Contact Matt Painter, [email protected], for more details. Our Second MBA Orientation Bootcamp = SUCCESS! On Saturday, January 16, we held our second MBA Orientation Bootcamp at McCoy Hall. Previously, we utilized the first hour of BA5351 and did a rapid-fire orientation session that always felt a little rushed. Given the growth of the McCoy MBA program and the launch of our Full-Time Cohort program we felt it appropriate to expand orientation with the goal of better preparing incoming MBA students to succeed in the program. It was a long day but the feedback indicates this Bootcamp, like the first in Fall ‘15, was a huge success. Incoming students were greeted by Dr. Chittenden and got a “pep talk” (!) from Dr. Brian Miller before launching into orientation sessions, team-building exercises and refreshers on presentation skills and graduate-level writing. We appreciate everyone who attended and look forward to offering this experience to future McCoy MBA students. PDUs: What They Are & What You Need To Know Incoming MBA students learned about PDUs at the Orientation Bootcamp, but we want to make sure everyone understands this new term. PDU stands for Professional Development Unit. Prior to fall 2015 we always encour- aged MBA students to attend professional development events but there was no man- date to do so. That has changed for incoming MBA students only. If you started the McCoy MBA program in Fall 2015 or later, you are required to accumu- late a total of twelve (12) PDUs during your time in the program. This is a requirement to graduate and earn your Master of Business Administration degree. Students who attended either the fall or spring Bootcamp already earned 6 PDUs so you’re halfway there! Our commitment to you is to offer more than enough PDU opportu- nities throughout the program so no one should ever come up short as long as you are participating. The Etiquette Dinner, as an example, is an opportunity to earn 2 PDUs. If you entered the McCoy MBA program prior to Fall 2015 the PDU requirement does not apply to you. We still strongly encourage you to attend as many professional development events as possible but you do not have the PDU requirement to graduate.
