Learning Methods Adapted to You

At the Zagreb School of Economics and Management we pride ourselves on providing a personal approach to our student’s education, along with the most modern educational tools, techniques, and methods. Our students always work in small study groups, where they can communicate directly with their professors and colleagues, and where lectures can be highly interactive and dynamic.

We aim to provide a bridge between theory and practice; our intensive use of computer simulations and the case study method develops our students’ critical thinking and analytical skills. Business theory isn’t very useful if one doesn’t know how to apply it in practice – and that’s what these methods accomplish. The simulations utilized – Capstone, Markstrat, and HRManagement – put students in the role of a virtual manager that must make business decisions in marketing, finances, recruiting, product development, and in other areas. By analyzing the outcome of their decisions, students learn how to utilize theory to adapt to changing market dynamics.

Our MBA students are also required to work on group and individual projects, developing their teamwork skills, as well as their oral and written communication talents. Each specialization consists of obligatory coursework and a graduate thesis. Students also have the option of taking specialized elective courses, as well as courses offered by other graduate specializations at ZSEM.

Our program is perfectly suited to both recently graduated students and employed professionals that are keen on developing their abilities and advancing within their organizations.

ZSEM’s Graduate MBA Program will help you:

• Plan and act more effectively in business circumstances, and help you grow as a leader and manager.

• Develop your competitive advantages in order to successfully compete in the demanding international labor market.

• Develop a wide range of skills, as well as specialized and applicable business knowledge.• Open up new possibilities for employment, even during your time in the program.• Earn valuable experience by working on international business cases and diverse projects.

Our program is perfectly suited to both recently graduated undergraduate stu-dents and employed professionals that are keen on developing their abilities and advancing within their organizations.

General mba

ZSEM’s General MBA is a special interdisciplinary program that provides students with a wide range of course op-tions. The purpose of this program is to offer students the possibility of choosing the most interesting graduate courses that ZSEM offers. This way, students can mold their own educational experience that meets their learn-ing goals.

In this program, students will take core courses in market-ing, management, finance, banking, accounting, auditing and taxes. However, they will also be able to choose elec-tive courses from other MBA specializations, creating a combination of courses that suits their individual needs. For those that wish to have a broader MBA experience in terms of acquiring knowledge and competencies from different areas of business administration, our General MBA represents an ideal choice.

Courses included in this program in the Management module include Strategy, and Business Ethics and CSR, in order to help students develop a grasp of strategic thinking and to recognize moral dilemmas in business, as well as make ethical business decisions. The Marketing Simulation offered puts students in the role of a Marketing Manager, who must make decisions in a virtual firm and develop a marketing strategy. The Financial Institutions and Markets, Financial Statement Analysis, and Financial Reporting courses all aim to make students literate in analyzing accounting and financial reports. Students are required to take four elective courses during the program, which will culminate in the creation of a Graduate Thesis.

Because of the more broad approach provided in this pro-gram, our General MBA is perfectly suited to those that are just being introduced to business administration for the first time. In today’s dynamic business environment, organization members without a business background are being asked to take managerial positions, while not possessing the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in them. This General MBA Program bridges that gap – if you want to advance within your organization and develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a managerial or leadership position, this program is for you.

Another special feature of this program is the possibility of extending its duration without additional tuition charges, i.e. the rescheduling of taking certain courses in the next academic year.

MBA in Management

Managers are the ones ultimately responsible for the suc-cessful and efficient operation of organizations. However, in order to accomplish this, managers must have skills and knowledge that will help them succeed in such a role. They need to adequately manage human resources because, as the saying goes, every manager with subordinates is a human resource manager. They need to be adept in using leadership techniques and in strategic thinking. A strong moral compass is a prerequisite for any modern manager, as is an ability to manage projects, read into accounting reports, and use statistics to reduce uncertainty in busi-ness decision making.

The MBA in Management at the Zagreb School of Eco-nomics and Management aims to help potential students strengthen their understanding of the philosophy of man-agement, develop analytical capabilities, and to help them become the managers they can be. If you’re currently pur-suing or wish to embark on a career in human resource management, project management, e-business, or if you just want to develop your strategic and leadership skills, this program was designed for you. As part of this pro-gram, students will also take part in business simulations that aim to test their decision making abilities and to help them understand the consequences of their decisions.

ZSEM’s MBA in Management includes courses in Strategy, Management of Change, Business Ethics, Project Man-agement, Managerial Accounting, and more. In order to give our students a broader view of how managerial deci-sions affect organizations, students will also take a course consisting of a human resource management simulation, Strategies for Managing Human Resources. The Mark-strat marketing simulation will also be administered in an obligatory course. As marketing and maximization of company value are inherently linked, this course provides students with an opportunity to fill the role of a marketing manager in a virtual firm.

This program consists of two semesters of compulsory coursework, followed by the creation of a Graduate Thesis, totaling 60 ECTS points. Lecturers in this program include Randy Richards and Dan Ebener (St. Ambrose University, United States), Renata Franc (Ivo Pilar Social Sciences Institute), Zlatko Mateša (President, Croatian Olympic Committee), and many others. Our faculty also includes Prashant Kale (Rice University, Texas), who was recently included in Bloomberg Businessweek’s list of the best 10 business professors in the world. The MBA in Management at the Zagreb School

of Economics and Management aims to help potential students strengthen their under-standing of the philosophy of management, de-velop analytical capabilities, and to help them become the managers they can be.

Marketing is a central function in all successful modern organizations, regardless if they’re corporations, small or medium size businesses, charities, and even in some government institutions. The importance of marketing in today’s society cannot be overstated; as technological advancements have made it easier for companies to find customers and markets in different parts of the world, marketing has become a complex activity that transcends the 4P’s; successful marketing is the key to survival of many organizations.

Career options in marketing can also be very diverse. If you decide to make the leap and specialize your skills in this field, you can work for companies that engage in mar-keting activities such as brand management, strategic management, or new product development. Also, you can work for organizations that provide marketing services such as marketing research, advertising, public relations, or consulting.

This program provides an optimal combination of courses in marketing theory, such as Consumer Behavior, Product Management and Design, Services Marketing, Interna-tional Marketing and more, along with more qualitative courses such as Marketing Research, Marketing Metrics, and Price Management. Students will have to take part in a marketing simulation in which their theoretical knowl-edge is tested as they assume the role of a marketing manager in a virtual company.

Lecturers in this program include John D. Branch (Uni-versity of Michigan, United States), Paul R. Murphy (John Carroll University, United States), Daniel Butler (Auburn University, United States), Patricia Loubeau (Iona Col-lege, United States), Thomas Baker (Clemson University, United States), Carlos Rodriguez (Delaware State Univer-sity, United States), Tracy Tuten (East Carolina University, United States), Dominik Mahr (Maastricht University, The Netherlands), and others.

The ZSEM Graduate MBA Program in Finance and Bank-ing, which is currently ranked among the 10 best programs of its type in Eastern Europe, aims to prepare students for a career in commercial banks, investment funds, insurance companies, and other similar organizations. However, this program is also perfectly suited for those that plan on working in financial departments of companies operating in other sectors, as well as for those that plan a career in government institutions (the Croatian National Bank, Ministry of Finance, Croatian Financial Services Supervi-sory Agency, etc).

The program consists of two semesters, and culminates with the creation of a Graduate Thesis. The first semester features introductory courses, such as Financial Math-ematics 2 and Introduction into Financial Econometrics, which both aim to transfer basic theoretical knowledge to students in order for them to better understand modern finance and financial data analysis. The first semester also features Financial Management, in which students will learn to analyze corporate securities in the primary and secondary capital markets, as well as financial strategies.

The second semester then builds on the foundations laid by courses in the first by going into further detail through courses such as Financial Law, Financial Institutions and Risk Management, Portfolio Management and Invest-ments, and more. This program also includes a course in Business Ethics and CSR, in which students will learn to recognize moral dilemmas and create ways and processes to solve them. Also, in the context of today’s global eco-nomic crisis and financial scandals, ethical behavior of financial professionals has become more important than ever before. The Zagreb School of Economics and Man-agement is dedicated to producing not only world-class financial experts, but also responsible global citizens.

A significant feature of this program is an optimal combi-nation of basic theoretical knowledge of modern finance, while connecting that theory with current practices which are prevalent in today’s domestic and foreign financial in-stitutions and markets. Lecturers in this program include Hrvoje Volarević, Jurica Vukas, and Igor Jemrić (Croatian National Bank), Dario Silić (Bina Istra), Andrej Grubišić (Grubišić & partners), as well as other esteemed experts.

MBA in Human Resource

Management

Bill Gates once said: “Take our best 20 people away, and I will tell you that Microsoft would become an unimportant company”. As companies compete in the global market-place with their products and services, they also com-pete with each other to attract the best and most talented people. Bill Gates’ statement only rings truer today; as global competition intensifies, companies are going to greater lengths to attract and keep their best performers and value creators. After all, great companies are made by great people.

The MBA in Human Resource Management at the Zagreb School of Economics and Management represents the best step HRM managers can make in developing their organization’s strongest competitive advantage; their people. Our HRM MBA was recently placed at the top of Eduniversal’s list of the best HRM MBAs in Eastern Eu-rope. MBA in Supply Chain Management

Supply chain management is the management of busi-ness activities starting from product or service design, production, warehousing, distribution and logistics. At the same time, planning and management integrate sup-ply and demand, but also communication, facility location and information exchange. All these activities have been performed since the beginning of commercial activities, but only in recent years have they been integrated and considered as the opportunity to develop competitiveness of the firm. Accordingly, a supply chain usually includes suppliers, production, warehouses, distribution centers, transportation system and customers. The success of a supply chain depends on a good coordination of all this elements. This is even more important taking into the consideration the globalization and intense competition.

In these circumstances, the optimization of supply chain processes is very complex. Adding to this the uncertainty of demand, dynamic environment, investments in product and process innovations, the supply chain story becomes a great challenge and a good opportunity for experts in-terested in solving this kind of business problems.

MBA in Supply Chain Management covers both quanti-tative and qualitative issues needed to understand and coordinate the whole supply chain system. The students learn how to solve problems they can face such as the tradeoff in making supply chain decisions, efficient supply chain management, inventory control, demand forecast-ing and project management while combining the insights and practical knowledge from management, managerial accounting, financial management, logistics, software so-lution courses and quantitative and analytical methods for solving the supply chain optimization problems. The program was created by taking into account the most recent global trends from the above-mentioned fields and it also integrates the Croatian case studies.

MBA in Supply Chain Management lasts two semesters and is completed with the defense of Graduation The-sis totaling in 60 ECTS. Lecturers are both from Croatia and from abroad, academic environment and business practice.
