I look forward to seeing you tonight! The warm temperatures are making students antsy to wear summer clothes! I would like to put a friendly reminder out about appropriate clothing for school. Students are able to wear shorts that are at an appropriate length. Shorts should be below the finger tips when arms are at the side of the child. Shoulders, backs and stomachs should be fully covered (i.e. no spaghetti straps and tank tops are not encouraged) also low cut shirts should not be worn unless there is something underneath. Hello Emerson Families~

A true sign of Spring is Emerson’s Family Fun Night which is TONIGHT!!! The

doors will open at 6:00 to allow families to purchase pizza, popcorn and water. The games

will begin around 6:30 and continue until 7:30. The raffles will take place around 7:25.

This event is FREE and for current Emerson families only and students will bring a wrist-

band home that will need to be worn to allow them entrance to the event. Please note that

while all of the activities are at no cost, the pizza, popcorn, cotton candy and water will be

available for a small charge. There will be gift baskets and a bike that will be raffled off in

the later part of the evening. The raffle tickets will be available for purchase from Emerson

Staff members during the evening. I look forward to seeing you tonight!

The warm temperatures are making students antsy to wear summer clothes! I

would like to put a friendly reminder out about appropriate clothing for school. Students are

able to wear shorts that are at an appropriate length. Shorts should be below the finger

tips when arms are at the side of the child. Shoulders, backs and stomachs should be fully

covered (i.e. no spaghetti straps and tank tops are not encouraged) also low cut shirts

should not be worn unless there is something underneath. Flip-flops are not an appropriate

shoe for school due to the lack of support and protection to the feet. Thank you for your

cooperation in making the learning environment as free from distraction and as safe as

possible.

Our 3rd grade students will begin M-STEP testing next week. They will be testing on

Monday, May 18, Tuesday, May 19 and Wednesday, May 20 in the area of English-

Language Arts. They will complete the Math portion on Tuesday, May 26, Wednesday,

May 27 and Thursday, May 28. The M-STEP is the replacement test of the MEAP. We

hope to have results by early Fall.

Just a reminder to our families that the Kindergarten students will be heading out to

Reed Dairy Farm on Tuesday, May 19. The 5th grade students from all elementary

schools will have their annual Field Meet on Wednesday, May 20 at the OHS track. Parent

volunteers are needed for the Field Meet. Please contact the office if you are available to

help out. The 5th grade Band students will also put on a marching parade on Wednesday,

May 27 at 2:00 for the school and parents to view. The parade will start on Oliver Street in

front of Emerson and turn north on Dewey Street and stop in front of the playground.

I hope that you all have a fantastic weekend! Enjoy the sunshine!

All Media Center books must

be returned by May 26th.

Student Safety

With the welcoming of

warm weather also comes

the possibility of severe

weather. In the case of a

tornado watch, school will go on as

scheduled. If a tornado warning is is-

sued, students will be directed to

their predetermined safety zone and

remain there until the all clear is

given. Tornado and fire drills are

practiced by each class throughout the

year.

Old Markers Wanted!

Mrs. Burns’ 1st grade

class is collecting mark-

ers to be used in the

Crayola ColorCycle

program. This poem

was created by the class to help

remind us what to do!

Our planet Earth needs help from you.

Listen carefully for what to do:

When you have dried out markers from

home or school,

Bring them to a first grade class.

We will recycle them to make fuel!

Send in any brand marker, highlighter

or dry erase marker to help the class

with their Earth friendly project!

See their class picture online!

Popcorn/Pickle

Sale

The last popcorn/

pickle sale of the school year

will take place next Friday,

May 22. The PTO will donate

half the sales to the Owosso

Parks and Recreation

department.

Alison Nitz, a 3rd

grade student in Mrs.

Ellis’ class, recently

donated her hair to

Wigs for Kids. This

organization custom

makes and donates wigs

to children who have

suffered hair loss. The

wigs are valued at $1,800 and will withstand any

childhood activity! Nice job Alison!
