Sedlar’s Snipet Hello Emerson Families~
It’s March, that can only mean one thing…March is Reading Month!!! The theme this year is, How
the World Works. We at Emerson are excited because there are two great authors coming to Emerson!
We are kicking the month off with a visit from Johnathan Rand, author of Michigan Chillers and Ameri-
can Chillers today! On March 20th, Trinka Hakes Noble, author of The Legend of Michigan and other
great titles, will be here to talk about the process of writing and illustrating a children’s book. Emerson
will be a buzz the entire month with a ton of extra reading activities going on! We don’t want the excite-
ment to stop just because the day does so please look over the month-long calendar coming home with
your child for ways to extend reading outside of the school day! Check out the Fun Friday activities on
the calendar.
Your help is needed. If you use Dewey Street (the east side of Emerson) to drop your child off be-
fore 8:30, please note that the busses (all 13 of them) also use that space to drop off the bus students.
Please use that area as a true pull up and drop-off only and stop behind the bright green cones and No
Parking signs. If you need to walk your child to the gym, please park on the other side of the street and
escort them across to the street. Thank you for helping to make the morning transition safe for our bus
students as well.
Owosso Public Schools will be holding its annual Kindergarten Registration during the week of
March 9th. You can register at any of the three buildings. If you have a son or daughter that will be 5
years old by September 1, 2015, he/she must be registered to be able to attend school in September.
Registration will be held on Monday, March 9th at Emerson Elementary, Tuesday, March 10
th at Bryant
Elementary and Wednesday, March 11th at Central Elementary from 2:30-3:30 and 5:00-8:00 each day.
Please bring the following documents:
*State certified birth certificate (not hospital copy)
*Immunization Records or waiver
*Proof of Residency
*Completed Enrollment Packet
Speaking of Kindergarten, the Emerson Kindergarten students will be showcasing their technol-
ogy talents after school on Wednesday, March 4. The times are as follows: Mrs. Moreno’s class will be
in the Computer Lab from 5:00-5:25, Mrs. Harkema’s class will be from 5:30-5:55, Mrs. Verlinde’s class
will be from 6:00-6:25 and Mrs. Sawer’s class will be in the lab from 6:30-7:00. Please come in to see
the amazing work that our youngest students have mastered!
Winter is still with us! Please help your child to remember their snow clothes for recess. It also
is a good idea to pack an extra sweatshirt for your child to wear in their classroom for the really cold
days. Thank you for your support!
I hope that you all have a fantastic weekend! As always…Go STATE , Go Tigers in Spring
Training and GO TROJANS!!!
Take Care~

Reading Connections
Want to spend time with your youngster, build their
reading skills, and help them learn to love books? You
can do all three when you read aloud to them.
Read regularly: Try to read to your child every day.
10-15 minutes at bedtime, during a sibling’s sports
practice or when you get home from school and work!
Take turns choosing books: They may choose old
favorites over and over. Use your
turn for new titles.
Be playful: Use different voices for
different characters. Substitute your
child’s name for the main character!

Jim Henderson presents the Commander’s Award to Mr. Sedlar. Emerson Elementary was recog-
nized for their outstanding support of the Toys for Tots campaign. Toys for Tots was organized at
the request of the United States Marine Corps in 1991 and continues to help less fortunate children
throughout the United States experience the joy of the holidays and to play an active role in the
development of one of the nation’s most valuable resources—the children.
