May 12, 2017 Hello Emerson Families~
It’s finally here…Family Field Day is tonight from 5:30-6:30 right here at Emerson Elementary. The
Spring Buy 1 Get 1 Free Book Fair will be open from 5:00-7:00 and food will be available for purchase begin-
ning at 5:15. Pizza, cotton candy and water are the food offerings. The activities will begin at 5:30 and contin-
ue until 6:30. The raffles will take place around 6:15. This event is FREE and for current Emerson families
only. Please note that while all of the activities are at no cost, the pizza, cotton candy and water will be availa-
ble for a small charge. There will be gift baskets and a bike that will be raffled off in the later part of the even-
ing. The raffle tickets will be available for purchase from Emerson Staff members during the evening. I look
forward to seeing you this evening!
This is a reminder that students are able to wear shorts that are at an appropriate length. Shorts
should be below the finger tips when arms are at the side of the child. Shoulders, backs and stomachs should
be fully covered (i.e. no spaghetti straps or tank tops) also low cut shirts should not be worn unless there is
something underneath. Flip-flops are not an appropriate shoe for school due to the lack of support and protec-
tion to the feet. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in making the learning environment as free
from distraction as possible.
M-STEP testing continues at Emerson! The 4th Grade students are finished with M-STEP testing.
The 3rd grade students will begin testing on Tuesday, 5/16 with the English-Language Arts portion. They will
continue testing on Thursday, 5/18 and Tuesday, 5/23 with two math portions. Please make every effort to
have your child in school on the testing days as a way to avoid a lengthy make-up session that will be held
when they return.
There are seven things that a daughter should hear from her Dad. I will take it one step further and
say that every child, boy or girl, should hear these things from both parents. Check out the link below for what
the seven statement are:

Just a reminder to our 1st grade families that the 1st grade students will be traveling to the Harris Na-
ture Center on Tuesday, May 16th. The 4th grade students will be traveling to the Wharton Center to perform
with the Lansing Symphony Orchestra on Wednesday, May 24th. The 5th grade students from all elementary
schools will have their annual Field Meet on Wednesday, May 24th at the OHS track. Parent volunteers are
needed for the Field Meet. Please contact Mr. Lemanski if you are available to help out. Kindergarten and
Dev. Kindergarten students are traveling too! They are heading to Potter Park Zoo on Thursday, May 25th!
Our 4th grade students will also be taking a trip to the Owosso Airport on Wednesday, May 31st. There are lots
of extended learning opportunities coming up as we finish out a fantastic school year!
Owosso Public Schools will hold the 2017 Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, May 25th at Will-
man Field (weather permitting). The ceremony will begin at 7:00. Emerson Elementary will hold a 5th grade
Celebration on Wednesday, June 7th at 7:00 in the Emerson Gym. We will also have a Kindergarten Celebra-
tion at 9:15 AM on Thursday, June 8th. June 8th is the last day of school for students with dismissal at Noon.
Just a reminder that there is a half day of school on Friday, May 26th and no school on Monday, May
29th in honor of Memorial Day.
I hope that you all have a fantastic weekend! Enjoy some family time outside this weekend!
As always…Go Tigers and GO TROJANS!!!
Take Care~

Popcorn Poppers/Pickle Stuffers Needed!
With our present 5th graders moving on to the
Middle School, they are taking our veteran
popcorn poppers with them! For the 2017-18
school year and hopefully beyond, we need
someone to step up and take charge of the twice monthly
sales. Normally popping and clean up runs from 8:00 a.m. to
about 1:00 p.m. You will not be in charge of collecting mon-
ey. If you and maybe a few friends would like to take this on,
please let Mr. Sedlar know of your interest!
