The Mela Festival is an annual, multi cultural festival
City Hall Square (Rådhusplassen) in Oslo. It is one of
the largest events of its kind outside the Asian
subcontinent, The Mela is headed by Khalid Salimi who is of
Pakistani origin. Salimi was deputy head of the Norwegian
Arts Council (1996-2004) where he led the Art Council's new
priority area "Mossaic program" for strengthening cultural
diversity in Norwegian art and culture. Arts Council initiated
to establish Horisont as an independent foundation, where
one of the major events is the Mela Festival, where Khalid
Salimi is the Artistic Director.
EMAL magazine interviewed Khalid Salimi who has been
actively involved with human-rights and was director of the
Anti-Racism Centre in Oslo, where he was involved for
immigrants and other minority rights around debate on
racism and anti-racism since the late 1970s.
He was co-founder and the leader of SOS Racism in Norway,
but withdrew from the organization in 1993, Salimi is an an
active art critic and music columnist for the Weekly
Norwegian paper Morgenbladet. In addition he is Editor in

Besides Mela festival, we work on different cultural and
artistic co-operation and also facilitate smaller communities
around in Oslo, not least cooperation with other art
institutions, artists from various countries, where immigrants
from Norway originate such as Somalia, Pakistan, Vietnam
etc. Let me also mention that we are in the process of
establishing the Mela Art's house, which will give us an
opportunity to organize events on a much more regular
basis in addition to the Mela festival.
The team, which has been working tirelessly for years, it's a
matter of deep loyalty, understanding and patience to work
consequently. What is important to mention here is the
chemistry, which make people going, taking care of them

quality art from around the world, to make it accessible to as
many as possible, keeping in mind the demographic
composition of Norway today, and trying to reflect it in the
program as much as possible.
There has been no intention to make this event huge.
However, it seems that the festival is catering a need, which
has long been ignored by the art and culture institutions in
Norway. Where there was a need to bring together, different
art forms from around the world.
It is a pretty challenging task, but, much easier than many
presume. We try to approach the artists directly and work
with them closely. We do our best to accommodate their
needs and whatever is possible to facilitate their
participation. In return many artists appreciate and very
satisfied in the way they are treated. This is a type of work
we continually keep on developing and try to do it better for
each year.
There is huge teamwork involved in managing the well being
of the audience, and their security. In addition to the team,
which is involved, it is important to mention that the
audience is very cooperative with our security staff.
As Mela is one of the major event of Norway and being a

BEAUTY DUTYwww.emalmag.com
very woman wants picture-perfect, flawless skin. Clear and beautiful skin is one of the main elements of a person’s
beauty. Healthy skin helps you feel beautiful as well. Summer period needs some extra care so if you are healthy
your skin look more fresh and shiny. There are thousands of skin and beauty care products that promise to give you Eclear and glowing skin. Instead of relying on these products, you can try some simple and easy home remedies to improve
the overall health and appearance of your skin.
CucumberCucumbers contain hydrating, nourishing and
astringent properties that are very good for skin. They
can improve the overall appearance of your skin by
repairing damaged skin cells, removing dead skin cells
and adding a fresh glow.
Cut a fresh cucumber into thick slices, and rub them
thoroughly all over your face. Leave it on overnight and
rinse with warm water in the morning. Do this daily
before going to bed.
Alternatively, make a mixture with equal amounts of
cucumber juice and lemon juice. Apply this mixture to
your skin, allow it to dry completely, and then wash it
off with warm water. Do this daily.
Baking SodaBaking soda balances pH levels of the skin, which is very
important to maintain clear skin. Plus, its mild antiseptic and
anti-inflammatory properties help deal with problems like
acne, pimples and spots. It also works as an excellent
exfoliating agent to keep the skin free from dirt, impurities
and dead skin cells.
Mix one teaspoon of baking soda with one teaspoon of
water or lemon juice to make a paste. Cleanse your face and
use the paste to gently exfoliate the skin. Finally rinse your
face with lukewarm water and pat it dry with a towel. Follow
this remedy two or three times a week.
Alternatively, mix one teaspoon each of baking soda and
raw honey. Apply this mixture onto damp skin and massage
gently for just one minute. Then wash with lukewarm water.
Finally, splash some cold water on your face to close the
pores. Follow this remedy once a week.
LemonLemon is one of the best ingredients that you can use
to promote clear skin. The citric acid present in lemon
helps keep the skin clear by removing dead cells, and its
vitamin C content helps reduce dark spots by increasing
the cell renewal process. Lemon also has bleaching
properties that will help improve your overall skin
complexion.
Apply fresh-squeezed lemon juice to your entire face
and neck. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then wash it
off with lukewarm water. After this, rub cucumber slices
on your skin to soften and moisturize it. Do this daily or
every other day.
Another option is squeeze the juice of one-half lemon
and mix one to two tablespoons of raw honey in it.
Apply it on your face, leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes
and then rinse it off.
To exfoliate your skin, mix two teaspoons each of lemon
juice and sugar. Apply the mixture on your face, neck
TurmericTurmeric is an excellent antiseptic and skin-lightening agent
that helps minimize scars and other marks. Plus, turmeric
can alleviate allergic, inflammatory and infectious skin
disorders that make your skin look dull and lifeless.
Mix one tablespoon of turmeric powder with enough
pineapple juice to make a paste. Apply the paste to your
face and neck. Leave it on until the paste dries completely.
Then wash it off with lukewarm water. Follow this remedy
two or three times a week to reduce the appearance of
spots on skin.
Make a paste by mixing equal amounts of turmeric powder
and gram flour with a little water or milk. Apply it evenly on
your skin and leave it on until it dries. Wash it off with
lukewarm water, scrubbing your skin gently in a circular

TECHNOLOGY
s the drone frenzy hits full swing, it is time for all the
other RC vehicles to fight back. Taking the lead is the ASmart Plane, a RC aircraft which you can control, one-
handed, from your smart phone. Right now, it is also on 14%
discount.
With the Smart Plane app downloaded, you pilot the little
biplane by tilting your phone. Your phone's gyro-meters then
pick up these movements, and they are translated into
sensible, proportional instructions for the rudder. With a
wingspan of 8.4 inches and weighing in at 0.4 oz, the Smart
Plane is unlikely to do much damage even if you do fly into
anything. But it's made of solid stuff, and if you ever lose signal,
it will automatically pilot itself. There's also a Flight assist mode
for a little more help, and it is remarkably stable in the air.
Flights last up to 15 minutes on one charge, and refueling via
USB takes around 13 minutes.
ermany's Minister of Transport has announced a
project that will see a section of the A9 autobahn Gthat connects Berlin and Munich set it up for
autonomous vehicle testing.
Hanging digital bells and whistles on the A9 will include
infrastructure provisions for vehicle-to-vehicle
communication, as well as liberating a chunk of the 700 MHz
radio spectrum so the test cars can talk back and forth. The
project is expected to get underway later this year.
Data platforms aside, it's clear that manufacturers like
Mercedes and Volkswagen are looking into having self-
driving capability be another option for future buyers. You
can check the boxes for Bluetooth connectivity, cruise
control, satellite radio, also check the box for autonomous
driving.
While similar projects are underway in the US, Europe, China,
and Japan, the German trials are the first time a country has
given over a slice of public highway for tests like this and the
fact that the Berlin to Munich Autobahn is a pretty important
stretch of road points to just how serious they are about this.

In modern society, news media are the chief purveyors of
information and opinion about public affairs. Journalism,
however, is not to be confused with the news media or the news
itself. In some nations, the news media is government-controlled and
not an independent body that operates with in a journalistic
framework. In democratic societies, access to information can play a
key role providing a system of checks and balances designed to limit
the over reach of powers concentrated in governments, businesses
and other entities and individuals. Access to verifiable information
gathered by independent media sources adhering to journalistic
standards can also provide ordinary citizens with the tools they need
to participate in the political process.
The core purpose of a journalist is to research, document, write, and
present the news in an honest, ethical, and unbiased way. Although
the method for reporting the news may be changing, the need for
talented, qualified and educated journalists is more important than
ever.
One of the most famous names in International journalism is Kadafi
Zaman. Born in Norway, a Pakistani-Norwegian that has been a
journalist for TV2 news, the famous Norwegian news channel. He also
spent three years at VG Norway's biggest newspaper, which needs no
introduction.
Zaman has also been instrumental in TV2's coverage of the terrorist
attack against Norway on 22 July. Zaman was born and raised in
Norway of Pakistani parents. He is also a former local politician in Lier
municipality of Labour. He is a talented author and has written many
articles for newspapers as well as books including "Norway in black,
white and brown”.
He has covered a lot of acute dilemmas exclusively related to crime,
misconduct, terrorism and immigration in Norway. His career
includes many international assignments and putting his life in
danger to provide authentic and meaningful information to the
world.
He has been amongst the first journalists at the biggest news events
in recent years, valued for the quality of his journalism. He was in the
border areas between Afghanistan and Pakistan by 11 September
2001, tsunami in Banda Aceh in 2004, also the earthquake in Kashmir
in 2005.He has also covered the Hajj in Saudi Arabia, the Bhutto
assassination, the largest fall in Pakistan's politics. Zaman has
covered them all with his insightful brand of journalism. And many
more like the Gaza war 2009, floods that affected large parts of
Pakistan in the autumn of 2010, revolution in Egypt in 2011. The list

just goes on. In autumn 2012 he was the first Norwegian
journalist to be granted a visa to Iran for several years. This
shows the high regard with which he is held due to his conduct
and passion towards journalism.
I studied journalism in Stavanger University. After that I started
to work for a regional newspaper. Two years later I was head
hunted by the largest paper in Norway, VG.
I want to make a difference. I want to tell stories about the
common people. About people in their struggle against a
powerful state. About people who are suffering in a war. About
people who want to be heard.
I think it's very important to be dedicated and humble.
Journalism is a profession which requires a lot of responsibility.
We should be the voice of the weak. We should expose the
powerful and the corrupt. To achieve this one needs patience.
Start working with a small paper or TV and work hard. There is
no short cut if you want to stay strong.
I have been very lucky to experience a lot of events in recent
history. I covered the war in Afghanistan after 9/11. Remember
how we stayed in Peshawar and just waited for weeks. After the
tsunami in 2004 I was sent to Banda Aceh in Indonesia. I have
never seen such devastations in my life. There were dead
people all over. Another thing I remember very well was the
coverage of Hajj. It was a strong experience to just see the Kaba
and witness the pilgrimage of millions of people. I was also
among the few journalists that went with the same plane as
Benazir Bhutto when she returned to Pakistan after many years
in exile. Some hours after the landing in Karachi there was a
suicide attack killing more than 140 people. I will never forget
those who died for Bhutto. I could mention many more
experiences but another event that has had a strong impact on
me was the flood in Pakistan in 2010. We started the coverage in
Swat and drove all the way down to Sukkur. I have never seen so
many children and women suffering before.
I must say that I admire the work politicians do. It's not an easy
job. But in countries like Norway people dedicate themselves to
work for others. In a country with almost no corruption and no
huge financial benefits that's really impressive. I don't miss
being a politician. I feel that I can do more in my present job. I
can highlight the issues I find important in a more effective way.
How did you get started working in media?
Why did you decide to be a journalist?
Any tip you want to give to newly born media persons.
As you are an internationally known personality please
share some of your experiences round the world.
You have been a former Local politician in Lier municipality
of labour, being a politician serving among the people or
being a journalist playing with dangers! Which one you
liked?
What is your favourite thing about your job?
How would you like to spend your free time?
On the borders in the sight of terrorists aren't you scared?
The best thing about my job is that I never know what will
happen. Every single day is different. I can wake up and go to
work in the morning and a couple of hours later I can suddenly
be on a plane to Cairo or Brazil.
I like to spend time with my family and friends. I also love sports,
like football and badminton. If I have some extra days off I
prefer to travel to some nice city or a beach and just relax.
I fear God and no one else. It might sound like a cliché but that's

LARRY FOGGTRIP TO NORWAY
www.emalmag.com
A very warm greetings to the readers of Norway, I was very glad when
told about this particular issue is dedicated for our Norwegian readers
the day I know I decided to share my marvelous trip to Norway. I
planned my trip to Norway to see the Northern lights, I was able to
arrange an individual, unescorted tour through Fjord Travel. The trip
would originate in Oslo with a train trip across the mountains to
Trondheim. We would board a Hurtigruten ferry ship and sail north
along the coast of Norway and around the North Cape to Kirkenes.
Excursions would include a dog-sledding trip at Bodo, an excursion to
the North Cape, and a snowmobile safari at Kirkenes. In addition, we
would spend one additional night at the Kirkenes Snow Hotel before
flying back to Oslo.
I arrived at Oslo, Norway, on Thursday, 20 February, at about 10:00
AM. After clearing immigration, I obtained some Norway Krone at an
ATM machine before we exited the terminal and located the SAS
airport bus. The SAS airport bus took us to within one block of the
Thon Hotel Bristol in the Oslo city center. We had booked two
additional nights at the hotel prior to starting our Fjord Travel tour in
order to be able to spend a couple of days in Oslo.
We spent most of Thursday afternoon resting at the hotel and
researching sights that we wanted to visit in Oslo. We had a wonderful
dinner at the Bristol Grill in the hotel where we got our first
introduction to just how expensive most things are in Norway. Jan
looked on the Internet and Norway is currently the most expensive
country in the world according to the “Big Mac Index.” Most
convenience type stores in Norway have ATM machines.
Norway has a senior discount program and the discount is granted
not only to the qualifying senior person but also to the people who are
accompanying him/her. Since I qualified for the senior discount, we
saved a considerable amount of money when we traveled by bus and
visited local sightseeing attractions.
On Friday morning, after a magnificent buffet breakfast at the hotel,
we obtained information at the hotel front desk on riding the bus to
the National Theater stop and taking the No. 30 bus to the nautical
museums. We walked to the bus stop and took the bus to the stop for
the Kon-Tiki Museum, the Fram Museum and the Maritime Museum.
We first visited the Fram Museum which houses the FRAM, the most
famous ship in polar history. It is known for the expeditions to the
North and South Poles and can be toured by visitors to the museum.
In an adjacent building, connected by an underground tunnel, the
museum also houses GJOA, the first ship to navigate the Northwest
Passage. The museum exhibits document polar exploration
expeditions and it has spectacular models of FRAM icebound aircraft
and airships, a theater, and a polar activity center.
Our next stop was at the Norwegian Maritime Museum. It emphasizes
ship building, maritime history, art, and archaeology. We went from
here to the Kon-Tiki Museum where the original KON-TIKI balsa wood
raft is on display. Thor Heyerdahl gained worldwide fame when he
crossed the Pacific from Peru to French Polynesia on KON-TIKI in
1947. The film about the expedition, which won an Oscar in 1951, is
screened every day at noon. Heyerdahl also had spectacular
expeditions on the reed boats Ra and Tigris. The vessel Ra II is also on
display at the museum. Ra II was a reed boat that sailed across the
Atlantic Ocean from Morocco to Barbados in 1970. In addition, the
museum has a very nice exhibit about Easter Island.
We re-boarded bus No. 30 and went to the Viking Ship Museum. This
museum houses three Viking ships: the Gokstad, the Oseberg, and the
Tune. These ships were discovered in three burial mounds along the
Oslo fjord. They had been buried more than 1,000 years ago to serve as
vessels for their royal owners’ final journey to the realm of the dead. The
exhibition also shows skeletons from the ships, the funeral carriage,
sledges, and other artifacts from the graves.
On Saturday morning, we walked to the Royal Palace. The palace was
closed to the public but the palace grounds were very nice. We
continued walking to the Cultural History Museum. This museum
opened in 1904 and documents 9,000 years of Norwegian history with
displays of Bronze Age burial sites and Viking weapons, jewelry, and
handicrafts. The museum also houses medieval church art, gold
artifacts, and a coin cabinet displaying Norway’s coin history. Other
exhibitions included hunting and fishing in the Arctic, ancient Egypt,
Samuari swords, and American Indians.
We continued walking to the Oslo Cathedral and then on to the
Akershus Fortress and Castle. The Oslo Cathedral is the main church of
the Oslo diocese, established in 1076. The current building is Oslo’s
third cathedral and was consecrated during 1697. It is Norway’s official
church with the Palace, the Parliament, and government buildings
located within its parish boundaries. Many national, parliamentary, and
royal events have been celebrated there.
The Akershus Fortress and Castle is a medieval castle that was built to
protect Oslo. Initial construction on the castle began in the late 1290s.
The fortress was first used in battle in 1308, when it was besieged by the
Swedish duke Eric of Soderman land. The main building has undergone
restoration and it has been used for official events and dinner. There is

tells many things he never talked about.
I played football at first and was a good striker of the team
but my father wanted me also to invest in tennis and do
more sports so I also started playing tennis beside football. It
all started two years later when we were visiting a close
friend of my father who enjoyed watching tennis on TV, the
day we were with him was randomly semifinals of the French
Open between Michael Chang and Ivan Lendl in 1989. This
thriller game was won by Chang who is also one of the most
memorable matches in tennis history. I think this was so
much fun and great that we decided to see the final between
Michael Chang and Stefan Edberg. I was very motivated by
watching Chang win the French Open and my father would
after this final that I should invest more in tennis than
football when there is also less risk of injuries in tennis he
said. The day after this final on TV, I went straight to Rykkinn
Tennis club again to entered the course with trainer. I also
trained a lot with my brother who is now a Squash player in
Norway. For many years my brother was my training partner
when we both were very eager. Gradually it became more
and more tennis addicted and I began to concentrate fully
and participate in tournaments.
I had big goals in tennis . I began to invest 100% in tennis
and had the goal of becoming an ATP player. I played
actively as competitive player in the junior class and was a
top 10 player in Norway. While playing with passion got me
some titles and good locations. I struggled allot with a knee
and ankle injury after an accident that got me on crutches
for 7-8 months. I trained and played active also in senior
class but had to put up venture at the age of 21 years due to

this injury that often came back. Then I decided to invest in
training industry instead.
Yes I was the youngest head coach in Norway at my home
club and after that I worked as a head coach and sports
director for several clubs. I took coach education in Norway
and some in Spain, and attended numerous seminars and
have spent a lot of time reading books in tennis to be a
good coach. I now have extensive experience as a trainer for
children, adults and competitive players. I've also been a
personal trainer for players who are now moving forward
from the United States
I'm passionate about club development and better
Norwegian tennis environment. Like helping children and
youth succeed in tennis. It is important that all students
regardless of age and playing strength are given the
opportunity to develop as a tennis player.
Yes I would say that it is important to always do their best in
both training and in matches. Be well prepared and use
visualization before games and do your best and think
always forward. Important with good attitude and the right
focus in the sport you are betting in. Eat healthy and drink
plenty of water and remember enough sleep. Sometimes
one must make some tough choices in order to succeed, it
can be like moving from family to invest in young age. Be
tough and not be afraid to practice a lot.
I think that one can achieve anything if will power is in place
and you really do something about it constantly.
I do exercise, eat healthy and drink plenty of water. I also use
a product that is a Balance Oil of fish. This fish oil omega 3
fatty acids and vitamin D mixed with oil of a special olive
plant that makes my body stays in balance and make sure I
stay healthy and feel great.
This script which I am writing along with two others in the
film industry in Norway. I have worked with this idea for a
while and it is approaching a result. This movie will be about
two teenagers who are tennis players. More I can not reveal
Have you worked as a trainer since it?
.
What is your training philosophy?
Do you have any advice for young people who are betting in sports?
What you do to take care of your health?
Tell us a bit about the movie you're writing?
about this project yet.
Tennis is my passion and that's what I do it full time. Besides
that I have a business part time and write when I get the
opportunity.
I believe it is important to have big goals in life. The larger
goal you have, the longer you will achieve. I have goals in
tennis and in the business world. I will of course try to be
successful with tennis theme movie but one of my goals is to
work with players at international top level in the future. I'm
passionate Norwegian tennis player but will also enjoy
working with players from other nations and from Pakistan. I
am planning a trip to Pakistan during the few years to
become better acquainted with Pakistani talents.
You are also working in an international company in addition to tennis and film project, how do you manage it all?
What are your goals and plans for the future?
Finally, I would say "Live with passion"

RASHID ANWAR
In discussion with EMAL Rashid said “Worst I know is to give up. I have
set my goals and one day world would see. I do not give up until I've
dragged the body so far that your body gives up. But it has not
happened yet”. Anwar said
Rashid believe that mind or our intrinsic will power controls the body,
and as long as you have a strong will your body would follow!
He said that another thing that motivates him is seeing the body
change also he added that “last weeks before competition I can almost
see the change from day to day and it was fascinating”
During conversation with EMAL Rashid shared his beautiful thoughts.
Rashid said
“I think that we bodybuilders are like artists. The difference is that if an
artist would change his painting as he takes up just brush and put
something in, something fills up or take anything away. For
bodybuilders as it is our body that is our artwork. And our main goal is to
get such a symmetrical body as possible. So not a muscle predominate
over other. But to change the artwork, so we must be on strict diet and
training hard several times a day. We cannot just take up a brush and
add more mass on my shoulder if we want it. We must make it through
heavy workouts, sweat and toil. So yes we are artists”
EMAL would also like to share Rashid's thought with our international
reader by having a short interview of Rashid Anwar.
I chose Kick boxing because I like it, I started training when I was 14 years
old. Began practicing kick boxing. Later I got interested in bodybuilding
and started training seriously from 22 years of age. My dad and my
brother always have interest in weight lifting so it was well obvious
where my interest came from too.
My coach polishes me in the best possible ways. I practice twice a day,
two hours in the morning and the same period of time in the evening.
This way I can focus on my goal.
Participated in my first competition in bodybuilding in 2008 and won
the best debutante trophy and place at second position. In 2013 I
became champion in Men's Physique and thus became the first
champion in Norway in concern branch since it was the first time it was
held in Norway.
When my name was announced as the winner, for a moment I could not
believe that I have won. I won't be able to express that exact feeling in
words. My heart is full but I have no words to express it.
I like all kinds of sports with some action. I have trained myself
Why you are so passionate and why body building? Any personalities from celluloid or literature that made you took this sport?
How do you prepare yourself both physically and mentally before any tournament?
When you heard your name being announced as the winner and that you shall be awarded, what were your feelings exactly on that very moment that all the hard work and dedication, finally turned out to be fruitful?
What are your other activities which you like?

differently through time. Including kick boxing, Thai boxing, mma,
capoeira, gymnastics but with the main focus on weight training. Has
swum with sharks and going skydiving this summer. Like adrenaline.
When it comes to food as there are so many different opinions,
investigations and diets. People get so hung up on how much calories
contains everything etc. But remember that there is a difference
between calories based on what it comes from. My best advice to those
who want to get in shape is to eat healthy food but not hanging too
much in calories. If it is possible for you to stay away from sugar,
saturated fats and wheat products then so much have done. Diet is
essential for a complete personality. Also if you want a fancy burger so
go, grab a burger but only for a one day, it is not like something you do
every day and everything will be okay.
My tip for those who want to train themselves should talk with skilled
people in this sports so they can work properly from day one, so they
ensure their results. Doing thing properly the first time is Important.
If you want to do something then do it properly or not at all. And it
does not matter how this looks to other people. If there is something,
you should do it.

Suggestions for beginners?
What would you recommend for six packs?
There are a number of factors to consider when training for a truly ripped six-pack. The abs have a higher percentage of slow-twitch muscle fibers than other skeletal muscle groups, but they still need heavy work in the lower rep ranges. Because the abs include so many different muscle groups, smart exercise selection is essential for complete development. Even the strongest abs can easily get covered by excess body fat, so an effective diet that cuts fat and spares muscle is essential. Cordial will speed your fat-loss efforts, but some kinds are superior to others. Abs workouts should get more challenging as you get stronger, so a true six-pack plan should have built-in progression.
