“A Good Harvest”
Matthew 13:1-9; 18-23
I. Intro & Context
II. How to promote good growth
(a) Remain rooted (Ps. 119:112 Jn. 15:5-10; Eph. 3:16-19; Col. 2:6-7;
3:16) “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I
in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing”
(Jn. 15:5)
(b) Remain well-watered (Lk. 8:6; Jn. 4:10-14; Ps. 1:1-3; 65:9-13; Isa.
44:3-4; Jer. 17:7-8; Ezek. 17:8) “But blessed is the one who trusts in
the LORD… They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends
out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes… It has
no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit” (Jer.
17:7-8).
(c) Tending the soil
i. May it be deep & fertile (Isa. 32:15-17; 61:11; Lk. 8:15) “But the
seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart,
who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop”
(Lk. 8:15)
ii. Standing under trials (Eph. 6:13; 2 Thes. 1:3-7; Ja. 1:2-4,12; 1
Pt. 1:6-9; Rev. 2:10-11) “Blessed is the one who perseveres
under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive
the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love
him” (Ja. 1:12)
iii. Standing under persecution (Ps. 119:86-87; Mt. 5:10-12; Jn.
15:18-21; 1 Pt. 5:8-11) “And the God of all grace… after you
have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make
you strong, firm and steadfast” (1 Pt. 5:10)
(d) Weed control
i. Managing anxiety (Ps. 56:3; Lk. 10:38-42; 12:22-34; Phil. 4:6-7;
1 Thes. 3:4; 2 Tim. 3:12; 1 Pt. 5:7) “Do not be anxious about
anything…” (Phil. 4:6).
i. Living by truth, not deception (Ps. 119:104,128,163; Pr. 13:5-6;
Cor. 6:9-11; 2 Cor. 4:2; Gal. 6:7,8; Ja. 1:22; 3:13-18; 1 Jn. 1:5-

Dear Elim Family,
Thank you so much for all your cards, and other
expressions of your love and sympathy in the recent
passing of my brother, Bruce Burklund.
We truly appreciated it.
Greta Wiborg and family.
VBS “Mini” OPPORTUNITY On July 16-18 we will be joining up with Pastor Dwayne and Calvary church to
host a mini VBS for the kids. We will be using material from "Weird Animals,"
the program Elim used this year. It will be held from 5:30 p.m. to approximately
7:30 p.m. We will need volunteers to take responsibility for: music, games,
lessons, crafts, and snacks. We will also need lots of volunteers to come and help
with the kids through the activities. Sign-up sheets are in the gathering area for
leaders and helpers. This is a short commitment but will be full of blessings as
we reach out and make new friends. Pastor Dwayne describes the kids as
loveable, adorable and easy to entertain. Sounds like fun. Why not join us! ___________________________________________________________________________
