BG’S TEAMS ARE COMPRISED OF ENGI-NEERS WHO ARE HIGHLY QUALIFIED IN DIVERSE FIELDS NAMELY:

■ Energy management■ Lighting■ Ventilation (especially for smoke extrac-

tion simulations)■ Road sign positioning■ CCTV installation including automatic

accident detection■ Emergency call equipment (SOS termi-

nals, etc.)■ Radio (emergency channels, insertion, FM

and DAB+)■ Tunnel fire detection■ Communication networks■ Management systems

Further BG can call upon their excellent skills in the field of control-command and supervision. Based on customer needs, interfacing with existing systems and the implementation of simple concepts, we are able to design motorway control rooms with the capacity to meet both present and future challenges.

BG’s experts can also provide solutions for the integration of intelligent control systems into buildings, such as:

■ Ambient condition control system■ Fire detection within the premises■ Access control ■ Premise lighting

We also offer services related to the training of operators and auxiliary staff; functional tests for safety equipment; and the organi-sation of emergency intervention exercises to validate the effectiveness of various ser-vices (emergency services, road works, res-cue, etc.) and procedures.

BG has achieved particular recognition for its ability to communicate and interact with clients in a proactive manner, offering a response that is particularly suited to op-erational safety. This enables BG to provide pragmatic solutions for efficient motorway management that are also capable of satis-fying future challenges.

BG FOR ROAD AND MOTORWAY MANAGEMENT

Road and motorway management is a particularly complex field that repre-sents a major challenge for operators of these infrastructures.

To best meet the difficulties that this involves, we have developed skills that enable us to add value through-out the project lifecycle:

Conceptual design, detailed design, construction management and site supervision, design reviews, cost and quality management, Contractors Engineer and Owners Engineer.

A GLOBAL VISION OF ROAD OPERATION

BG has developed excellent skills in motorway control and safety systems, covering all phases of a project, from the preliminary studies to operational assistance.

OUR PROJECTS AT INTERNATIONAL LEVEL, IN SWITZERLAND AND IN FRANCE

MOTORWAY EQUIPMENT (GREECE)In the context of the commissioning of three twin-tube tunnels of 25 km of motorway in Greece, 400 km north of Athens, BG was commissioned by the future operator to conduct an audit of the test programmes planned by the construction com-panies and to identify any missing tests.

In addition to these services, BG also undertook a checking role for the construction works and defined the minimum operational perfor-mance levels for the ventilation systems within these tunnels..

BERNEX - FERNEY MOTORWAY (GENEVA, SWITZERLAND)After twenty years of operation, the Geneva bypass section of the A1 motorway required renovation works. The renovation works ensure the compliance of this section of the motorway with the latest guidelines and technical data sheets issued by the Federal Roads Office, FEDRO.

The main installations involved are:

■ Energy distribution■ Lighting■ Ventilation■ Signing■ Video surveillance■ Communication■ Management system■ Wiring and cables

SERRIÈRES TUNNEL - TUS PROJECT (NEUCHÂTEL,SWITZERLAND)The Serrières tunnel, in the Canton of Neuchâtel, is located on national road N5 Yverdon/Solothurn.

In this context, BG designed the new operating and safety equipment for the tunnel with the aim of allowing each tube to operate independently

and in two-directional mode.

This tunnel section has been holis-tically integrated with the adjacent sections already in service, as well as with the wider network of can-tonal and municipal roads.

VENNES – CHEXBRES MOTORWAY (SWITZERLAND)The Vennes-Chexbres motorway requires complete renovation. The operating and safety equipment is reaching the end of its working life and FEDRO will need to complete the renovation to ensure the safety of users.

A noteworthy feature of this project

is that the two tubes of the Belmont tunnel need to be widened to allow the use of a temporary emergency stop lane (PUN).

This widening has been planned with a protection gantry that will al-low traffic to circulate on four lanes during the construction works.

A16 - BURE TUNNEL (JURA, SWITZERLAND)The Bure tunnel (3059 m) is located between the junction of Porrentruy West and the Boncourt customs platform on the A16 motorway.

It consists of three technical units, a bidirectional tube and a safety ser-vice tunnel.

Studies and follow-up of worksBG modelled and planned the elec-tromechanical elements and coordi-nated the civil engineering planning:

■ Sizing of ventilation shafts based on aerodynamic analyses

■ Detailed design and construction of electro-mechanical equipment

DIR EAST OPERATION ASSISTANCE (MARANGE-SILVANGE, FRANCE)DIR East commissioned BG to study the integration of the Marange-Silvange cut-and-cover tunnel sec-tions into the existing road opera-tion scheme.

Following a feasibility review of the operator’s current organisation, BG

was awarded the design studies re-lated to the renewal of the operat-ing room (working in collaboration with the company SOA); the defini-tion of precautionary and remedial maintenance works; the definition of operating conditions; and the as-sociated instructions as well as the preparation of Safety Manuals.

OUR PROJECTS IN FRANCE

H20 - INCREASED SAFETY OF TVA AND TMS TUNNELS, (FRANCE)In the context of safety assurance of the La Vue-des-Alpes (TVA) and Mont Sagne (TMS) tunnels, located on the cantonal road H20, BG stud-ied the measures to be implemented to increase the level of safety in the short term (2016–2019).

The objective of the project was to urgently improve the safety of the TVA and TMS tunnels in advance of the implementation of a permanent safety solution.

Short-term improvements:

■ Fire resistance of escape shelters■ Escape shelter signing■ Upgrading of basement building

ventilation systems ■ Escape shelter communication

equipment■ Installation of automatic closing

barriers at portal locations■ Traffic management measures for

the transportation of dangerous goods

PUYMORENS TUNNEL (PYRÉNÉES, FRANCE)As part of the upgrade works nec-essary to comply with new safety standards, BG performed design studies and provided site supervi-sion works as the Contractors Engi-neer for Civil Works and Electro-me-chanical Equipment for the entire 4800 m length of the structure.

The works performed led to the cre-ation of nine new shelters and the adaptation of two existing shelters. This required a review of the entire design concept of the ventilation and smoke extraction system.

All equipment has now been adapt-ed to this new configuration:

■ High voltage and low voltage dis-tribution as required for the block system

■ Redistribution of lighting■ Adaptation of the distribution to

satisfy the new needs related to ventilation

■ Overhaul of control/command systems

■ Renovation/adaptation of signing and monitoring equipment

BG supervised and performed the site works over three seasons.

MOTORWAY A8 SPEED REGULATION SIGN PANELS (FRANCE)As part of ESCOTA commits to the Government in relation to "the re-duction of CO2 emissions" for the GREEN MOTORWAY PACKAGE, the concession holder has developed a project to streamline traffic through the implementation of a dynamic speed control system.

Dynamic speed control systems consist of changing speed limits to reflect the road context through the use of dynamic panels.

For each site, the following items have been defined:

■ Gantry or mast-mounted speed control panel (PVR)

■ Control cabinet■ Power supply and transmission

connection

After the concept was validated by the operator, BG performed the site supervision works.

RENOVATION OF THE LIGHTING OF THE SIAIX TUNNEL (FRANCE)To ensure the safety of the Siaix tunnel, the Centre-East Interde- partmental Directorate of Roads decided to construct a 1600 m long safety service tunnel parallel to the road tube. It will also be used by cy-clists, who can thus avoid using the tunnel. The works schedule also in-cludes the renovation of road tube lighting.

BG developed the concept design guidance for the lighting system and prepared the detailed design

concept for the new installation. The scheme has been designed to minimise the installed power re-quirement, to optimise costs and to allow the operation of the tunnel in optimal practical safety conditions.

The concepts are as follows:

■ Symmetrical LED type base light-ing with lowering of the lighting level after 600 m

■ Strengthened lighting with so- vapour (NAH).
