LAST MEETING– May 20, 2016 – Asher Schroeder
Dr. Don Sierk is our newest member, but I forgot to take his picture, so he will be spotlighted in the next week or two. (Sorry, Don). Sixty six attended on Friday, including a lot of guests. Visiting Rotarians were: Duncan Cameron, Na-ples, FL, Ralph Stephenson, Moline Rotary and Jill Olsen, Marion/Cedar Rapids Rotary. Other guests were: Linda Tubbs, Scott Earl, Tyler Bindrum, Tim Lane and Werner Zankow. Special guest was Jordan Ashcraft, son of Jeff Ashcraft. Jordon will be leaving soon to serve in the Middle East with his Reserve group. We all wish him the best! Kelly Meyer was the sergeant and collected $90 in fines. Paul Seelau asked for donations for travel expense for the History Day students and collected $248. Jeff Helms gave $20 to the education fund in honor of his son Tom Helms, who recently graduated from college with an engineering degree. Mr. Asher Schroeder from Maquoketa was the speaker. He served in World War II and was held as a prisoner of war, 1944-45. After he was injured in Germany, he lived in numerous POW camps. His nickname was string bean, as he lost over 90 pounds before his camp was captured by Americans and he was released.
The 4 Way Test Of the things we THINK SAY or DO
1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
