ThisismythirdyearasclubpresidentandIdidconsidernotre-nominaPngfortheyearahead,howeveraXer receivingmanyphonecallsof supportandencouragement fromourmembers toconPnue in therole I thenspentconsiderablePmecontemplaPng thedecision. I feel I sPlldohavemuch toofferandachievewithintheposiPonand Idoenjoythepresidentrole. IhaveanamazingteamaroundmewhosupportmeandtogetherIbelievewemakegooddecisions,withalwayshavingthebestinterestsoftheclubandthebreedatheart,andthisulPmatelyaremyreasonswhyIreconsidered.

IampleasedthatthecommiBeehasbeensuccessfulinofferingawidervarietyofGSDacPviPes,tonotonlyourcurrentmembership,butwiththeviewoftryingtoencourageallGSDownerstoaBendeventsthatarenotjustskewedtowardthe“ShowDog”.InmyopinionthisisanareaoftheQldclubthatshouldbeapriorityforanycommiBeeeachyear.Wefinishedthe2018yearwith218members,thisisdecreasefromthepreviousyear,ofapproximately20members.

ThisyearoneofthehighlightshasbeentheDogLoversShow,theeventaBractedapproximately15000peoplethroughthegates.TheClubhadagreatstandandaBractedahugenumberofpeopletoit.Thenext Dog Lovers show is scheduled for 2020. During the year we have included a Herding Trial,IntroducPon to tracking workshop, as well as our normal events which have included the Group 5ObedienceTrial,BrisbaneandZone2MembersCompePPons,DoubleHeaderChampionshipShows,andRestrictedTrial,and5BreedSurveys.AsclubpresidentIhaverepresentedtheclubanditsmembersattheGSDCAAGMandNBCmeePngs.

NaPonalNews:DogsQldhasapprovedtheclubtohostonbehalfoftheGSDCAthe2021NaPonalandtheSVGermanjudgeshavealreadyagreedtoofficiatetheyhavebeenannouncedasMalcolmGriffiths(SCfemales)andChristofLudwig(MalesandallLSC).PlanningwillcommencelatenextyearwherewewillneedtorallythetroopsonceagaintoformtheNaPonalCommiBee.Iurgeanyonewhowouldliketobeinvolvedtopleasecontactme.

TheGSDCAAGMAgendahasjustbeenreleased,wewillarrangetocallaspecialGeneralMeePngwheretheseitemscanbediscussedandvotedon.DateTBA,pleasetakethePmetoreadtheitemsandaBendthemeePng if you can, discussion on the harmonisaPon and inter variety breedingwill be somewhatinteresPngtopicsonceagain.

The Editor posiPon has now become obsolete, I would recommend we change this posiPon toincorporate a ShowManagerposiPonor a Publicity/PromoPonsCoordinator role. Events planned for2019willincludefundays,puppypicnics,fundraising.TheEarlyPuppyDevelopmentTrainingClasses&ObedienceclassesaresPllneedingconsiderablePmeandplanningtogetthisupandrunning.

TheclubisinagoodposiPonfinancially,andideallyweshouldbeworkingtowardstryingtohavemoreofpermanenthomebasethatwouldincludeaclubhouseandourowngrounds.Thiswouldalsoassistwithstorageforalltheclubgearincludingthetrailer.

ThecommiBeehavealsodiscussedtheopportunityofofferinggreatercommunityeducaPonawarenessprogrammessimilar to the“BuyerBeware”onewehadmanyyearsago, thiscouldassistwithofferingpotenPalpuppybuyersmoreinformaPonaboutonlybuyingpuppiesfromregisteredethicalbreedersandevenincludeachecklistofwhatquesPonstoask.TheGSDCAissPllworkinginthebackgroundoftryingtopushtheLRL’s forall registeredbreeders toonlybebreedingwithdogs thathavebeensuccessfullyclassifiedthroughthebreedsurveysystem.

VicePresident–MandyDoyle,thiswasMandy’ssecondyearonthemanagementcommiBeeteam,anditwasdisappoinPngwehadherresignaPonduringthe2ndpartoftheyear.MandyorganisedtheHerdingTrialandInsPncttest,whichwaswellaBended.MandyhasalsobeenresponsibleforassisPngatshowtraining.MandyhasassistedwithObediencedecisionsthroughouttheyearwhichhasbeenappreciated.ThanksMandy

Secretary – Annie Tamblyn- This is Annie’s first year back in the management team, taking on theimportant role of Secretary, aXermany years of holding the posiPons of Puppy LisPng officer, and PRofficer,whichshe is sPlldoing.Foranyonethathasheld theposiPonsofPresidentorSecretarywouldknowthatitisvitalthatthesetwopeopleareabletoworktogetherbothprofessionallyandbediligentwhendealingwithdailycorrespondenceofinwardsandoutwards,includingpublicenquiry,membershipenquiry,dealingswithDogsQldandtheGSDCA,andschedulingmeePngs.AnniehasalsostewardedattheChampShowandtheStateBreedShow.AnnierepresentedtheclubattheObedienceMeePngwhichwasheldinMelbourneinOctober(fullreportwillbesentoutshortlyalongwiththeminutes).Anniehasbeen commiBed to role the role and whilst in the early stages of the change over was somewhatchallengingweovercomeitandhaveendedtheyearstrong.IampleasedthatAnniehasrenominatedfor

Show Secretary – Mandy Scrivens - Mandy’s commitment to this important posiPon has again beennotedandgreatlyappreciated,sheconPnuestoalwaysgetthejobdone,whenitneedsdoing.Thehugeresponsibility&tasksinvolvedwiththeShowSecretary’sroleintheleaduptotheshowsandonthedaycanbeoverwhelmingatPmes,butMandyalwaysgetstheworkdonewell,fairandwithgreataBenPonto detail, the Trophies, sashes and grading cerPficates are always lovely.Mandy hasmade a valuablecontribuPontotheclubwithhercommitmenttothisposiPon.MandyhasalsodonetheclubnotesfortheReviewmagazine.TheGSDCQisluckytohaveyouinthisposiPon.Thanks,Mandy,foryourconPnuedsupportandfriendship.

BreedAffairs–GailDonald–ThishasbeenGail’sfirstyearontheManagementCommiBee,andshehasnailed it,Gail introducedanewworksheetforBreedSurveywhich isusedonthedaybythesurveyorsand this has now been implemented by the other state clubs, Gail’s contribuPon has been greatlyappreciatedinallareasincludingtheWebpageandFacebook,whichareconstantlybeingupdated.TheliBlespecialtoucheswiththatarPsPcflarewithourschedulesandnoPcesareallthankstoGail.IwouldliketothankGailandacknowledgehercontribuPontotheclubandIampleasedshehasre-nominatedforthe2019.

HD-EDRegistrar–MichelleHammond–MichellehasbeenresponsibleforthedistribuPonoftheHD/EDcontractstomembers.MichellealsoarrangedtheorganizingoftheproducPonofthenewclubshirt,theywerecolourfulandvibrantandmostofthe20wepurchasedhavenowbeensold.Michellealsoassistedat the Dog Lovers Show. I am pleased that Michelle has re-nominated again for 2019 and for herconPnuedsupportofmyroleasPresident.ThanksMichelle.

ObedienceCoordinator–AnnClarkson–ThisisAnn’slastyearasObediencecoordinator,andItakethisopportunitytothankherforyourmanyyearsofcommitmenttotheposiPonandpromoPonoftheclubtrials.Ann’sknowledgeintheobediencefieldhasgreatlyassistedthecommiBeeandclubwithensuringthe trialswereruneffecPvely.Annwith theassistance fromher liBle teamofhelpershasensuredthetrialshavebeenwellreceivedbytheexhibitors.TheObediencecompePtorentrieshaveincreased,andIhopethisimportantpartofourclubconPnuestogrowonceagain.WehaveappliedtoDogsQldtoholdanother RestrictedGroup 5 Trial in September next year. I take this opportunity to thankAnn for herconPnued commitment to theObedience area of the club, as at the Pme of this reportwe have notreceived a nominaPon for Obedience Coordinator posiPon, which is disappoinPng considering thenumberofmemberswehavewhoregularlycompete inObedienceTrialsandcouldofferassistance totheclubbutchosenotto.Ifthisisanareathatyouseeyourselfwithsomeinterestin,Iaskyoutopleasecontactme.

Zone2Rep–Karl&SarahMaresh.ThishasbeenKarl&Sarah’ssecondyearasZonerepresentaPvesandtheyhavehadagreatyearwith theorganisaPonofanotherBunningsSausageSizzleswhichhelpedtooffsetthecoststorunthememberscompePPonsandBreedSurvey’s.Theybothareworkedconsiderablyhardwithsecuringsponsorsfortheshow,howeveritwasashamethattheshowwasnotsupportedasinpreviousyears.ThetwomemberscompePPonswhichwereheldinMackay,hadofficiaPngjudgesLouisDonald and KarenHedberg,we also held 1 Breed Survey over the sameweekend. Karl and Sarah arealways willing to put their hand up and help where they can and I have greatly appreciated their

assistancewithintherole.KarlandSarahhavedecidedtohavebreaknextyearandIwishthemmuchsuccessinthefutureandwouldwelcomethembackatanystageinthefuture.Wearecurrentlyworkingon conducPng amembers compePPon on the 24th August in Bundaberg and also a Breed Survey. AnexpressionofinterestfortheZone2rolehasbeenreceivedbyJudithandIreneHayton,whichI’msurethecommiBeewillacceptandthankthemfortheiroffer.

IalsowouldliketothankZone3PhilGillies,BreedRescueJeanHansford&PuppyLisPngAnnieTamblyn,whoreceivecallsandemailsfromourmembersandmembersofthepublicfortheirrespecPveposiPons.I thank each of you for ongoing assistance and commitment to these posiPons. Notagreatdealtoreportbutouryearof“allGirlJudges”(notintenPonalincidentally…)wasfun,aswell as educaPonal. A successful day at the Members CompePPon in June with the “always apleasuretobearound”JoCathieasourJudge–agreatday,lovelydogs,agoodlead-uptoourJulyShows.

OurDoubleHeaderChampionshipShowswiththedelighuulHeatherMacDonald&MelanieGrothatthehelmwereagreatsuccesswithmanyInterstatefriendsmakingthetriptosupporttheshows–themajorthingsthatstoodoutformewasthewonderfulatmosphere&greatsportsmanshipthatsimplyflowedoverbothdays.Sothankyoutoour lovelyLadyJudgesforyourpart insevng“themood”andhatsofftoallexhibitorsforyourparPcipaPonandcontribuPon.

TheOpenShowagainnotverywellsupportedsadly,butat least itwasabletogoaheadthisyearandourJudgeStacyGuilfoylethoroughlyenjoyedtheanimalsthatwerepresented. Again,IstressthatweMUSTgive theAspiringGroup5 Judgessupport,weMUSTpresent themwithourqualityanimalssoastheycanlearnandbecomeexperiencedinourbeauPfulbreed…PLEASElet’stryaliBleharderin2019.

AsitwasvotedatCouncilleveltoretaintheStateBreedExhibiPon/EvaluaPon.Weheldourson15thSeptember with the much respected Mrs Jenny Yuen presiding. The numbers were verydisappoinPngasyouareallaware,theeverhandsomeXarotooktheStateSiegerTitleforthefourthPmeinarow.

We can all look forward to our 2019 shows, taking note that we have brought the MembersCompePPonforwardtoMarch–notonlyagreat“pracPcerun”forthoseheadingtoMelbournefortheNaPonalbutalsoitevensthingsoutalotbeBerthanholdingitinJune,thiswaywehaveMarch–MembersComp,JulyChampShows&SeptemberOpenShow&SBE-andremember–getyourentriesinonlineviaSHOWMANAGERandremoveanychanceofthemnotbeingreceived.

AtthispointIwilltakethisopportunitytothank,onbehalfoftheClub,theHersantfamilyfortheirverygenerousdonaPonofexcellentmedals&trophies.Thismeansanenormousfinancialsavingfortheclubandweareextremelygrateful.IwishallmembersahappyandsafeChristmasandallthebestfor2019.

OBEDIENCECOORDINATOR

For3yearswetriedtogetaRestrictedTrialforGroup5,butDogsQueenslandflatlyrefusedtoallowit.ThereasonbeingthatitwoulddisadvantageGympieObedienceClubwhoholdatrialonthesameday.AllenquiresImadeseemtopointtothefactthatnotmanycompePtorstravelfromthisareatoGympie forasingletrial.Asyouknowwedidmanagetoget theRestrictedGroup5Trial in2019,however Iwasverydisappointedbythe lackofentries. ItseemedthatsomeGSDmembersdidn’tenter as protest, against the trial, what a pity these same members were unable to aBend anymeePngforthe3yearspreviouswhenthetrialwasdiscussed,itwouldhavesavedmealotofworktryingtogetGSDaccreditedjudgestojudgethetrialforus,andthelobbytoDogsQldtogivetheclubpermissiontoholdit.

Our Restricted Trial in July was well aBended, maybe with more GSDs aBending local all breedobedienceclubswemayseeanincreaseinnumbersatourtrialsin2019.

ThisismylastyearasObedienceTrialSecretaryandIwouldliketopassonmybestwishesandofferofhelptotheincomingsecretary.

MybestwishestoyouallforChristmasandtheNewYear.Takespecialcareofyourbestmatesinthishotweather.

BreedRescue

Theyearhasbeenquitebusywithover40dogsavailableforrehomingbutunfortunatelyonlyabout30peopleringingandaskingforanewcompanion. We’vehadtheusualnumberofoddballsofcourse and they are usually the people who take up the most of our Pme and paPence. AnorganisaPon called ‘Young Diggers’ who are doing a wonderful job of re-training rescue dogs forcompanionsforex-servicemenandwomenhavecontactedusand itwouldbegoodtobeabletoassistthemintheirendeavourstofindtherightdogsbutnoluckyet.Peoplehaveallsortsofneeds,somebeingdogssuitableforelderlypeople,somepeopleevenwillingtoflythedogtoCairns,andonepersonwhoparPcularlywantedadogbetween6and7yearsold–notanagethatiscommonlywantedatall. Wehavehadthe‘available’dogsdescribedaslongcoat,boisterous,black,white,already57kgsat2yearsold(frighteningthought),gentlegiant,10montholddogtheownerpaid$2000 forand isnowwilling toplacehim for free,andahostofother reasons forgivingup. It isreally frustraPng when a genuine, obviously caring person calls for a dog and there is not onesuitableonthe listrightthenandthere. OtherPmesofcoursewehavea long listof ‘available’dogswithnotone‘wanPng’call.ForalltheirritaPonandfrustraPonthatoccursitissPllextremely

rewardingwhenwecanobligewithasuccessfulchangeoverandthedogbecomesahappymemberofacaringfamilyornewowner.Agreatserviceforagreatbreed-ourGermanShepherdDog.

PUPPYLISTINGS

I’msPllregularlyreceivingalargenumberofcallsfrommembersofthepublicenquiringaboutthepupsandolderdogsforsaleandalsosadly,averylargenumberofdogsthatneedtobesurrendereddue to unforeseen circumstances and either direct these calls to breeders with lisPngs or to thebreedrescueofficer,JeanHansfordortheGSDRescueAlliance/LisaJenkins.

Thisyear thenumbershavedroppedevena liBle further than lastyear;approximately16%downthesamePmeaslastyear;withinthereporPngperiodofSeptember2017to1October,2018.Therewere37lisPngsinthisperiod,comparedtothepreviousyearwith44lisPngs.

Each year, the number of lisPngs decline slightly– this clearly shows a trend in either a drop inbreedernumbersand/ormostliBersarenowpre-soldsothereforetherearefewerpupsordogstobelisted.
