Now a days, a lot of critical issues related to education which act as barriers

in providing better opportunities to the students and educational development

arebeing discussed. Not only student learning, teaching and evaluation are in

focus area but other factors like technology, behavior and gender cannot be

avoided. It is the prevailing belief that girls are always at the disadvantage

with respect to certain subjects but this classroom gender gap is changing

nowand trend shows that male students find it difficult to keep up with their

counterparts. At the onset, two indicators are visible for this gender gap i.e.

rising aspirations for girls and less structured learning environment to meet

the challenges of competitions. The students of the Centre for Education may

highlight through research the indicators of gender gap in education and may

contribute in restructuring the learning environment through different

pedagogical strategies.

Field Internship Program from 17th January, 2017 to 10th

February, 2017

Field internship program of M.Ed. students was organized by Centre for Education

from 17th January to 10th February 2017. The objective of the program was to

prepare the M.Ed. students for future challenges by making them competent,

foresighted, responsible and innovative teachers of the society. In this program,

three different colleges of dist. Bathinda i.e. ‘Baba Farid College of Education,

Master-Mind College of Education and SSD Girls College of Education’ were

selected.

During this program, the M. Ed.

students taught the B. Ed. traineeswith

creative and innovative methods of

teaching. They followed the 4E’s

(Engage, Explain, Explore and

Evaluate) approach for designing their

lessons. This approach allowed the B.

Ed. teacher-trainees and teachers (M.

Ed. students of Centre for Education)

to experience common activities and it

developed deeper understanding of skills of teaching among them.

Different activities were organized

by M. Ed. students in these colleges,

like quiz competition, rally and

slogan writing competition

onelection awareness and kites

festival. These activities developed

the qualities of leadership and

cooperation. Each student delivered

20 lessons and observed 11 lessons

of their peers during the program.

Extension lecture on‘Living Wisely’ by Prof. SaamduChetri on

21st February, 2017

On 21st February 2017, an

extension lecture on ‘Living

wisely’ was delivered by Prof.

SaamduChetri from Bhutan. He is

the Executive Director of Gross

National Happiness (GNH) Centre,

Bhutan and involved in various

developmental activities not only in

Bhutan but other countries also.

Prof. S. K. Bawa, Coordinator of

Centre, introduced him to the

audience.Dr. SaamduChetri

asserted that wisdom is what we tend to apply for the goodness of others. He

discussed about the ways of living wisely which in turn leads to the happiness of

an individual and society. He believed that there is aneed to be pro-active and

integrated for successful and wise living. According to him, relationships are the

biggest factor for happiness. Happiness leads towards success but success does not

always leads towards happiness. He gave the message of serving others by an

activity of one minute which involved closing of eyes and asking a question to

ourselves that ‘what would you like to hear on your birthday from your grandson

and Prime Minister’. Dr. Saamdu had a vision of going deep inside the truth for

being wise. Towards the end of the lecture, he ascertained that there is a need to let

go of certain things, accept the things as they are, live with right intend, forgive

yourself and others, smile always, and always say thank you and sorry even if we

are right. By following these, one can attain wisdom and can live wisely and

happilyand say thank you and sorry even if we are right. By following these, one

can attain wisdom and can live wisely and happily.

An Interaction on ‘Student Leadership and Empowerment’ with

Prof. Poonam Dhawan on 23rd May 2017

An interactive session with Prof. Poonam Dhawan(Former DAA, Central

University of Jammu) was organized by the Centre for Educationand Student

Counselling Cell on 23rd

May, 2017. Prof. S. K. Bawa, Coordinator of Centre for

Education, introduced her before the audience. Prof. Poonam Dhawan discussed

about the increasing educated unemployed population and insisted on improving

our choices for empowerment.

Further she added that intelligence is

spontaneous not static and change

happens with an open mind. She

explained the concept of Johari

Windows for giving a message that

there is a possibility of learning for each

one of us. . She emphasized on student

leadership by saying that any leadership

which is not liberal cannot sustain for

very long and empowerment can be

achieved if decisions are participatory. We should be empathetic and non-

judgmental for becoming an effective leader. Thus, there is a need to aware ourself

and direct ourself for an effevtive leadership and empowerment.

CAREER COUNSELLING

We are living in a professionally competitive world. People have become very

choosy, rational, while deciding their future career. Thus, decision making for

future is a problem faced by everyone. Vocational Satisfactionenhances happiness

in an individual. It is to my belief that a student, in spite of his excellence in

academic, personal and financial background has every possible chance of failure,

if an appropriate goal is not set and through planning to achieve those goals is

missing. Students severely lack necessary and latest current facts and information

and remain unaware of modern trends and changes remain immature and

inexperienced to take a rational decision. To solve future related problems in

accordance with their wishes, people have started visiting professionals and experts

of relevant areas to seek valuable suggestions and remedies. Career counseling

addresses the career related problems and decisions. It deals with finding an

appropriate goal for an appropriate person and guiding him with professional

consultation.

Career counseling enlightens all walks of life’s activities and is beneficial to all age

groups. The methodology is different for different age groups and professions, but

there is only one common thing i.e. Individual counseling. It helps people to deal

more effectively with a wide variety of issues, such as career and academic

decisions, adjusting to life transitions, stress, depression, loss, family issue,

relationship difficulties, academic performance, self-incidence, motivation etc. The

individual counseling staff includes a qualified professional procrastination,

leading him to the goal of finding meaning from clinical psychology, guidance and

counseling, educational psychology or social workers predominantly qualified to

address the situation. Thus, career planning has focused on new dimensions for

students in today’s changing economy. It is important that students should

establish a career direction early in their studies preferably from 9th

standard then

formulate plans for reaching their goals.

What will happen one day?

The world will end one day O! My love

And one day the beauty will fade away,

Vanish away with this all glory and pride

And the whole source of haughtiness one day.

The hustle and bustle of life will meet its end one day

The image of living being will be cremated one day,

One day the songs of youth automatically mute

And the gathering of joy will be duped one day.

The honor of doing will lay useless one day

The glorious flat will be vacated one day,

One day the bright morning will not come

Invisible will be the twilight star one day.

The full moon light will deny its joyous moment one day

The lovely shower and winter sunny day will irritate one day,

One day all the hope will die

And passion will turn into fear one day.

That Glorious black man will ask for an account of deeds one day

Meek and weak my body will be excuseless one day,

One day the reasoning will fail to answer the committed sins

And the creator in me put down the pen one day.

TIPS FOR TEACHING

Start and finish lessons on time

Set interesting & appropriate homework tasks

Moving around the classroom frequently is the best

strategy to avoid indiscipline in the class

Focus attention on entire class and don’t talk over

student chatter

Come to class prepared, show confidence in your

teaching & learn student names as quickly as possible

Equal opportunity should be given to all the students in

the class to answer the question

Do not be hasty in getting the answer

Do not look at a section or group of students in the class

while teaching

Speak in a clear and correct tone and pronunciation

Question should be put in a question form, it should not

look like a statement

If a student gives a wrong answer, he may be asked to

speak the correct answer given by the other student

Be sure that the answer of the question is heard by all

the students

Try to manage slow learners and gifted students of

your class
