Website license purchased by the Division for everyschool

Has an administration site that teachers and counsellorscan utilize to track student progress and use of the site.

Has pre-planned lessons and assignments that teacherscan take and use. Career counsellors willing to come and teach class or

show teachers how to utilize the site. This site can be utilized by many curriculums

I personally would like to see this site utilized by everygrade (six to twelve) as they work towards buildingtheir own electronic portfolio.

This is an excellent opportunity to utilizethe career counsellors’ knowledge indeveloping and carrying out the SMARTgoals for this section.

Transitioning Counselling

Students that are moving schools becauseof school closures, moving up to the highschool, or because they are new to the

area; the career counsellor is available tosupport division and school initiatives toease that transition for these students.

Report Card Checks

The career counsellor is available to go overmidterm and final semester marks.

They can support the process set out to

improve students who are falling behind, notpassing, or are not meeting their potential.

This is a school based process and thecounsellors will support any process orprocedures that are put in place at each schoolto help students’ succeed.

One on One Counselling

Grade 9 students need to know about classselection for high school classes and what itmeans when they decided not to take a classand its impact on their future.

Grade 10 students need to know how the creditsystem works and should be able to self monitor

Grade 11 and 12 students need to have a focuson life after school; post secondary information,

career information, job skills, resumes,graduation requirements, job shadowingopportunities, scholarship information, interestinventories….

 Adding or Dropping Classes

Students that are wanting to add or dropa class should talk with the careercounsellor before doing so.

This again is a school based policy, but itwould be beneficial for a student to seek out the advise of the career counsellor

before making this decision.

The career counsellors should beknowledgeable about alternative classoptions that exist for students in and out

of our division

Special Credit, online courses, DivisionMoodle Courses, etc.

Career counsellors will support school’swith the implementation of such courses

Monitoring Credits

The career counsellor should be aware of allhigh school students and the course load of what the student is taking.

They should be checking credit status andshould be making sure that all students have orcan meet the graduation requirements.

If there is a problem with a students ability tograduate, the counsellor should be in contactwith the administration of the school

Career Expo

Every high school student will have anopportunity to go to a career fair, either inSwift Current or Maple Creek.

The career counsellor will help to organizeand see that the students in their schoolshave this opportunity.

 Vocational Testing

 Arrange and set up vocational testing forfunctional students and any other students thatmay benefit from this type of testing

Utilize School to Life Transition Handbook andresults from the test to help create a transitionplan for the student to enter into life after highschool.

This process should also include a MAPS (McGill Action Planning System) or a PATH (Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope), which thecareer counsellor is willing to be apart of.
