The Opportunity As part of our Mental Health Team, Medibank has partnered with Quitline, funded by the Cancer Institute of NSW to deliver the best possible smoking cessation outcomes for Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander clients in NSW. As an Indigenous Counsellor within Medibank you will safely and efficiently provide appropriate health information, counselling and provider referrals to other health and community service providers. As part of the team, you will provide quality counselling to people wishing to quit smoking, providing both inbound and outbound support for Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander clients and the general population. You will offer information and education about smoking cessation, assist with strategies for managing withdrawal symptoms, crisis intervention; motivational interviewing, counselling and/or planning according to individual program requirements. All our counselling services are delivered according to Best Practice and Evidence-Based standards. A key aspect of the role will include liaising with Aboriginal Health Services, Coordinating and distributing "quit fulfilment" packs, delivering cultural awareness amongst Quitline staff, supporting the Coordinator in community engagement activities, including presentations and liaison and implementing localized initiatives to promote quitting. The telephone and online based nature of this role will require you to multi-task between listening and supporting callers, typing notes and referring to clinical resources and online support tools. We offer work at home roles which allow you to balance work with other commitments and maintain your wellbeing. We will also support you with training, ongoing education, coaching, and supervision. You will always feel part of the team no matter where you are based and guided by the Aboriginal Coordinator and Operations Manager. About You To be successful in your application for this role, you will have the following A tertiary degree (of minimum three years duration) in a relevant discipline in social science, social work, welfare studies, psychology or counselling. OR a tertiary degree (of minimum three years duration in a different discipline) AND a post graduate degree or diploma in a relevant discipline in counselling, social science, social work, welfare studies, psychology. Minimum of two years full time counselling experience (post relevant qualifications) in ATSI focused programs demonstrating the ability to work in a strength based or solutions focused framework. An active involvement in Community Engagement activities, specifically with ATSI Communities. This is an identified role - Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander applicants are encouraged to apply.
