Educational Activism: Content-Driven Collaboration

Educational ActivismThe Media is My Message

• The World is Flat 3.0 (connectedness & globalization)

• Wisdom of Crowds (many vs. few; finding the right crowd)

• Waiting for Superman (there’s an app for that)

• Race to Nowhere (achievement at what cost?)

• Train Your Mind, Change Your Brain (neuroplasticity)

• The Singularity is Near (non-biological intelligence)

Educational ActivismCompelling Reasons

1. Economics and age demographics

2. Global connectedness (health,

environment, economic, security)

3. Information pollution (too much,

unfiltered)

4. Workforce development (critical skills)

5. Collaborating our future (possible,

preferable, preventable)

Educational ActivismPreferable Future

video

In a world full of problems, our destiny will be

determined by Solvers - the people who see a

problem as an opportunity to do something great.

Solvers have the power to change reality rather than

simply accept it as is. By participating in future-

thinking projects, our students learn key problem-

solving skills which empower them to become active

agents of change who shape the future.

Educational ActivismPreferable Future

Our students made a wiki to share both locally and globally the projects they worked on to help protect the watershed. Projects included reducing trash, recycling shoes and encouraging local consumers to choose reusable shopping bags. This movie was made by a group of students who wanted to educate the community about how to reduce carbon emissions:

To help us continue our work we invite you to

visit our wiki and share with us your thoughts

or comments and information about the

watershed where you live. This will help our

students to evaluate the work they did and

make important connections to the world

around them.
