Total Costs: $7,099,990 US Influenza Vaccine Effectiveness Network The goal of this project is to determine the yearly effectiveness of the seasonal influenza vaccine at preventing medically-attended acute respiratory illnesses in adults and children. This award includes funding for a longitudinal cohort of households which include young children to look at the impact of repeated infection and vaccination on the development of influenza-specific immunity over time. Dr. Martin is the Principal Investigator of this subcomponent in addition to being the Co-Principal Investigator on the core activities. Role: Co-Principal Investigator MCubed 2.0 (Martin, Herschensen, Stillwell). 4/2016-4/2017 Univ. Michigan. Total Costs: $60,000 The 2014 Enterovirus-D68 Epidemic: Clinical Outcomes and Host Gene Response The goal of this project is to determine the molecular epidemiology, clinical severity and associated host response of enterovirus and rhinovirus infections in adults and children hospitalized during the 2014 Enterovirus D-68 epidemic. Total Costs: $2,900,000 US Hospital Vaccine Effectiveness Network The goal of this project is to determine the effectiveness of influenza vaccine in preventing influenza-associated hospitalizations in adults. This award includes funding for the determination of the burden of respiratory syncytial virus among hospitalized adults. Dr. Martin is the Principal Investigator of this subcomponent. Role: Co-Principal Investigator K01AI099006 (Martin). 8/2012-7/2016. NIH/NIAID. Total Costs: $641,605 Defining Precursors to VRSA Emergence: Epidemiology of MRSA & VRE Dual Infection The goal of this project is to identify the predictors and outcomes of MRSA & VRE dual infection. This particular coinfection is a key precursor to VRSA emergence as well as a model for the study of co-infection patterns in adults with chronic comorbidities. Role: Principal Investigator Investigator-Initiated Study (Marchaim; PI of UM Subcontract: Martin). Clinell. Total Costs: $7,955 The Use of Cleaning Wipes in Reducing Environmental Contamination and Acquisitions of Multidrug Resistant Organisms and Hospital Acquired Infections. The goal of this project is to determine the effectiveness of novel cleaning wipes in a hospital environment. Total Costs: $32,000 Systematic Review of Randomized Pediatric Trials of Oseltamivir. Total Costs: $95,153 Outcomes following Linezolid Therapy in Complicated Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: A Multi-Center Retrospective Study The goal of this project was to evaluate the pharmacoepidemiology and outcomes of skin and soft tissue infections and coinfections using large databases derived from multiple health systems in the greater Detroit area. Work included subanalyses of at risk patient groups, including patients with diabetes. Role: Principal Investigator Investigator-Initiated Proposal (Kaye). 11/11-12/13 Sage, Inc. Total Costs: $210,000 Bathing Hospitalized Dependent Patients with Disposable Washcloths Instead of Traditional Bath Basins The goal of this project was to evaluate the use of prepackages washcloths as an alternative to traditional patient bathing methods. Total Costs: $70,000 Infection Control of Keyboards The goal of this project was to evaluate a novel UV-light system for keyboard cleaning. Total Costs: $1,479,592 Influenza Transmission in Community-Based Michigan Households The goal of the project is to determine the transmission rate of influenza in households through epidemiologic and molecular analyses and to describe the impact of non-influenza respiratory viruses on influenza susceptibility. Role: Principal Investigator R01 (Monto / Lauring) NIH/NIAID. Total Costs: $3,521,743 Molecular Characterization of Influenza Transmission in Vaccinated Households The goal of the project is to describe the molecular virology of influenza transmission among households with a high rate of vaccination and to determine specific antibody profiles among vaccinated individuals who become infection. Total Costs: $1,481,152 Evaluating the Effect of Repeated Influenza Vaccination The goal of the project is to evaluate the impact of repeated influenza vaccine receipt on serologic correlates of protection.
