2012 Edge Summer Camp Guide 2012 Edge Summer Camp DaybyDay Themes Overall Theme: “Radiant Joy” Set: “Olympics” Summer camp is jam packed with activities all week. Below is a basic guide to your experience. Day One: Joy of Being a Child of God Welcome to camp! Participate in an “Opening Olympic Ceremony” as we introduce the week’s theme and talk about identity. Stemmed from the Baptism of the Lord, the youth will realize that they are set apart and part of God’s family. This session will end with a night obstacle course. Day Two: Joy in Being Forgiven Enjoy a day at camp as we unpack forgiveness using the Gospel story of the Wedding Feast. The goal of the night session is to help the youth recognize the need for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and how we can experience radiant joy when we repent and get back into right relationship with God. Day Three: Joy in Choosing God Spend some time high in the air or in the water as we go deeper with radiant joy. The goal of the night session is to help the youth know that their faith is a choice that must be made daily. This session will include boys and girl’s sessions as well as the opportunity to pray over the youth. Day Four: Joy in Seeing God It’s another day of adventure—either off site or using the camp facilities. The goal of the night session is to help the youth understand that we love God not because we fear being in Hell, but because we desire to be with Him. This session will include Eucharistic Adoration. Day Five: The Joy in Sharing God The final day at camp – and it is about to get a little messy! The goal of this final night session is to challenge the youth to live out their faith—by sharing their radiant joy with others and serving those in need. The night will end with the chance to create covenants indicating the youth’s commitment after camp.

What’s the weather like?

Camp Tepeyac is located at an elevation of 6700 feet in Arizona’s central mountains. Mountain

breezes keep summertime temperatures from reaching the high levels of Phoenix. Daytime

temperatures seldom exceed 90 degrees, and nights are cool. July is monsoon season, with cool

afternoon thundershowers.

Important to keep in mind while packing

Because we are traveling in two family vans this year, space inside the van is very restrictive for

luggage. To ensure that we can fit everybody and everything inside (and on the van racks), we

ask that each camper pack their belongings in a duffle bag rather than a suitcase. Please do not

pack excess clothing. Make sure all sleeping bags are compacted as tightly as possible. Pillows

also shouldn't be larger than normal size.

Holy Family EDGE – Camp Tepeyac Rules on Clothing

At Life Teen summer camp we require all campers to respect others as well as their own bodies.

We require all campers and adults to adhere to our modesty guidelines. Below are the rules for

the sake of comfort, safety and modesty.

• No strappy tank tops or short shorts ‐ Please be respectful of your body and of others by

dressing modestly. Wear shirts that cover your shoulders and chest, and shorts that cover your

thighs. A majority of activities during the day will be outside where the weather is hot and the

sun shines brightly. By covering these areas, you will avoid getting sunburned.

• No low riding shorts or pants (cheershorts, running shorts, soffees) ‐ Many activities involve

bending, sitting, and moving around. If you place your hands at your side, the shorts should at

least meet your fingertips.

• Please make sure that your shirt covers all of your stomach and back when you sit down or

raise your arms above your head.

• One piece bathing suits: if worn when rafting/tubing, short must be worn.

• Two piece bathing suits: a shirt must go over the bathing suit
