Dear Friends of the Edmonds CC Foundation:
The Edmonds Community College Board of Trustees and I are so honored to partner with the Edmonds CC Foundation Board of Directors. The new vision of the Edmonds CC Foundation is to be the “preeminent resource supporting student success and educational excellence at the college and throughout the community.” The passion, energy, and commitment of the Foundation’s volunteer leaders and staff are unsurpassed and demonstrates their commitment to supporting student access, success, and excellence at Edmonds CC. Since its inception in 1982, the Edmonds CC Foundation has been the cornerstone of the college’s ability to provide scholarships and other financial support to students and employees. In 2015, the Edmonds CC Foundation awarded 216 scholarships, 15 innovative grants, $20,000 in emergency funding, and more than seven awards of excellence. Your support this evening will allow us to raise nearly $250,000 for critical needs for our students and employees, and will help us transform the lives of students — and their families — throughout our community. The impact of your generosity this evening is unmeasurable and on behalf of the Edmond CC Board of Trustees, I thank you. We hope you will enjoy a wonderful meal designed by Chef Maria Hines and prepared by Edmonds CC Culinary Arts students and instructors. Please extend your giving by considering giving your time and talent on one of the Foundation’s volunteer committees to help serve more students this next year. Together, we can help make dreams take flight for each student at Edmonds CC. All our best, Jean Hernandez, Ed.D. President

About the Gala Auction
Tonight we celebrate our 30th anniversary of the Edmonds Community College Foundation auction. There is a lot to be said about the dedication of our Foundation Board, our sponsors and our supporters, and the continued success of this event in our community.
It all began in the fall of 1986 when Charlene “Charlie” Pignataro joined the Foundation Board. With her legendary energy and creativity, Charlie suggested the Foundation organize a small fundraising event. In the space of six weeks, she formed a committee, invited guests, secured a location, and procured an elegant selection of wines for a silent auction. The evening was hosted at Ed and Carol Simon’s home in Woodway. It was magical, with champagne and oysters on the half shell and more than 100 guests mingling and bidding on auction items. When the evening came to a close, $3,500 had been raised for the Foundation and a new tradition had begun.
Each year, new volunteers and board members step up to lead the auction — planning, procuring, and designing each gala auction as a special signature occasion. The event has traveled to many locations — private homes, an airplane hanger, the Edmonds Conference Center, Embassy Suites Hotel, Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery, and now, for the fifth year, back to campus in the Woodway Ballroom. The auction has grown from raising $3,500 in 1986 to last year’s $205,000. Our goal tonight is to raise $250,000.
We sincerely thank all those whose contributions, past and present, have helped make the Foundation’s annual gala auction the magnificent signature event that we are enjoying this evening.

Celebrity Chef
Winner of the 2009 James Beard Award for Best Chef Northwest, Maria Hines has been turning heads since she took the helm at Earth & Ocean in 2003. In 2005, she was named one of Food & Wine magazine’s 10 Best New Chefs and went on to open her own restaurant, Tilth, in September 2006, which remains
among one of the nation’s top culinary destinations. In 2008, Frank Bruni of the New York Times named Tilth one of the top 10 best new restaurants in the country.
Maria competed in “Top Chef Masters” in 2010 and later that year appeared on Food Network’s “Iron Chef America” and won the “Battle of Pacific Cod.” She opened her second restaurant, Golden Beetle Restaurant and Bar, in early 2011, offering Eastern Mediterranean cuisine and craft cocktails. In 2012, Maria opened Agrodolce with a focus on Southern Italian and Sicilian food. With her dedication to locally organic unwavering, she now has three restaurants with the highly esteemed organic certification from Oregon Tilth. Adding to her list of accolades, Maria was a semifinalist for a James Beard Award for Outstanding Chef in 2013.
Maria has been a board member of PCC Farmland Trust since 2008 and is a founding member of Seattle Restaurant Week. In 2012, she attended the James Beard Chef’s Boot Camp for Policy and Change. Most recently, she received the honor of being inducted into the first American Chef Corps by the U.S. Department of State. After receiving her degree in Culinary Arts, Maria sought out many opportunities to learn more styles of cooking and working with different ingredients. Her cooking over the past 24 years took her from California to France, a short stint in Seattle, then onto Washington D.C. and New York before returning back to her favorite place on earth —the Northwest.
