3902026 05.14 Product Information Economizer VHX 1-30 Description The VHX, Vortex Heat Exchanger is a unique and highly efficient economizer with a built-in bypass. It is extremely compact compared to traditional economizers as it utilizes a radiator style heat exchanger. The design creates a turbulent flow across the heat exchanger surface, thus maximizing heat transfer. When combined with a mechanical draft fan (TDF, IPVB or RSV), a single economizer can serve multiple boilers no matter whether they are of atmospheric, fan-assisted or forced draft design. The heat exchanger is mounted on an internal rail system that allows it to slide in and out for service or cleaning. The all 316L stainless steel construction allows it to be used for both condensing and non- condensing applications. A dual-damper design provides by-pass capabilities for use with dual fuel applications, and also prevents over-heating of the heat exchanger. When combined with a mechanical draft system, it becomes an EcoFlex system, which can be used to properly draft multiple boilers and allows to use a single economizer with multiple boilers. Applications The VHX can serve a number of purposes: Lower stack temperature Preheat boiler feed water Process water heating Sanitary water heating Increase boiler efficiency by at least 3-5% Reduce fuel consumption Reduce emissions And can be used for a variety of applications: Single or multiple boilers Forced draft or atmospheric boilers Condensing or non-condensing boilers Baking Ovens Process Applications Chillers Thermal oxidizers Engine and turbine exhaust systems Other high-temperature exhaust applications Material Housing and heat exchanger tubes and fins is made in 316L (1.4404) stainless steel. The fins have a thin copper coating. Capacities Available for steam boiler systems up to 1000 HP (33,000 MBH) or for other applications with flow rates up to 25,000 CFM. For optimal performance the economizer can be combined with a mechanical draft fan controlled by a modulating draft controller (EBC 30/31/35). Connections Tapered (optional) or straight with proprietary bolt flanges. An exhaust fan can be attached to the mating bolt flange.
