Introduction

This guide describes the Prentice Hall Economics essential print and digital components found in the program.

Program Organization

Prentice Hall Economics is organized around the Understanding by Design® framework’s Essential Questions. The Essential Questions help students of all abilities gain an understanding of key economics principles to help them make to help them effectively problem solve in this global economy. The content is relevant and accessible so students of all abilities understand the key concepts. Each resource in the program helps students acquire the knowledge and skills they need to answer the Essential Question and move toward a true understanding of the content.

The Foundations Series

The Foundations Series is an accessible curriculum that covers the same core content as the on-level version. Features include a lower reading level at a Lexile range between 800 and 900 and explicit skills instruction. The Foundations Series provides vocabulary and reading support as well as lesson and content scaffolding.

Student Resources

With a variety of student resources, Prentice Hall Economics helps students understand the impact of economic principles in day-to-day life, make better choices, and live in a global economy.

Student Edition

The student edition provides complete course content in the print text and online. It is available both for on-level and the Foundations Series.

Essential Questions Journal

The Essential Questions Journal helps students develop the framework for responses to the Essential Questions. Students build their understanding and answer journal questions, which shape their response to the overarching unit Essential Question. The journal provides the opportunity for students to express their opinions through multiple writing opportunities. The journal also provides a visual explanation and organization of the content.

Online Student ResourcesStudents can use a wide array of 21st century learning tools to personalize learning in the online course. No matter where they are or what time of day it is, students have access to their work.

Online Student Edition

The Online Student Edition has rich digital assets. Two levels of the student edition teach core content, which enables students to use the version of the text that matches their reading level. These are also available in DVD-ROM.

Interactivities

Interactivities in the program help student gain a deeper understanding of key concepts. Some of these resources include How the Economy Works, the Visual Glossary, and Math Online.

Economics on the Go

Economics on the Go allows students to access audio and video files of each chapter’s interactivities. It includes the Audio Review, in both English and Spanish, the Economics Dictionary, and Action Graph Animations.

Essential Questions Videos

The program allows student to develop Essential Questions Videos to help them explore evolving economics issues. Students can produce videos with guidance from an available online manual that provides creative and technical help and advice. They can also preview sample Essential Question Videos on a topic from each chapter online. These are also available in DVD format.

WebQuests

WebQuests include research projects that use online resources to explore current economics issues and Personal Finance WebQuests that reinforce real-life personal finance skills.

Personal Finance Handbook

The Personal Finance Handbook enables students to gain the knowledge and skills needed to manage their own money. This resource helps students develop the habits of good financial citizenship.

The Wall Street Journal Videos

Pearson has partnered with The Wall Street Journal to create these videos that promote student inquiry into ongoing and constantly changing economic issues. These videos challenge students to make connections between classroom learning and real-life situations.

StudentEXPRESS is the digital version of the student edition with a page-by-page audio that ensures that students have what they need to learn, study, and succeed in the classroom. Teacher’s Resource Library DVD-ROM

The Economics Teacher’s Resource Library DVD contains all of the same teaching materials found in the online course. It includes the Teacher’s Edition and a wide range of on-level and Foundations Series lesson plans, worksheets, and assessments. The built-in differentiation allows teachers to pick and choose among the resources that meet the needs of all students.

All-In-One Teaching Resources

The All-In-One Teaching Resources are print versions of the same resources for each unit and chapter available in the Teacher’s Resource Library.

Accelerating the Progress of English Language Learners

The ELL Handbook, available in print or online, provides additional support to help accelerate the progress of English language learners (ELLs) in the classroom. In this resource, ELL expert Jim Cummins provides guidelines for teaching ELL students in the Economics classroom.

ExamView Test Bank CD-ROM

The ExamView Test Bank CD-ROM allows teachers to create customized tests from banks of thousands of questions. The test bank questions—based on textbook content objectives—provide specific text page numbers for content to foster remediation.
