• Air Quality remains a problem in the UK

• 596 AQMAs & 255 AQMA authorities

• Road traffic biggest single contributor

• Diesel vehicles contribute disproportionately

• Tight targets for future CO2 emissions

• Technology can and will help

• South Yorkshire - Funded by the 4 South Yorkshire Authorities, supported by NHS Barnsley and Defra

• 5 Star Recognition Scale for individual vehicles – Euro engine standard, type of fuel used,

exhaust after-treatment – plus ‘booster’ stars for in-cab technology

• 5 Star Recognition Scale for overall operation – Percentage of fleet achieving minimum

star ratings – Evidence of fuel management process,

driver skills development, vehicle specification, use of supporting systems and performance monitoring

• Contact via RHA, FTA and CPT

Monitoring Air Quality

Nottingham City Council assesses air quality as part of the Local Air Quality

Management process, required by The Environment Act 1995 and the

National Air Quality Strategy.
