Year 9 Students Participate in ‘The Challenge’ ‘The Challenge’ is a year‐long program designed to develop and celebrate the Year 9 students as they take their first steps in becoming young men and women. The program, facilitated by Mr Damien Ridley and Mrs Arna Jenkins, includes a range of activities such as overnight hikes, abseiling, team building activities and etiquette. Last Wednesday, Year 9 students gathered at 6:00am with their parents, teachers and Mr Borgas, for a sunrise ceremony that signifies the com‐mencement of The Challenge program. Mrs Donny Wareham and parent helpers provided a beautiful breakfast afterwards. This week, The Challenge will see Year 9 students involved in a practice overnight camp on the College oval and a hike the following day. ‐ Mrs Jenkins
Art Excursion Last week the Year 11 and 12 VCE Art class joined with the Nunawading Christian College VCE Art students to analyse works of art at the Heidel‐berg Museum of Modern Art with teacher, Mr Ormond Howard.
All About Healthy Lifestyles Year 3 students are creating a recipe book and preparing some healthy dishes as they focus on food in their Healthy Lifestyles unit. Nachos, berry muffins and lovely mango yoghurt icy poles are all on the menu. Stu‐dents will be looking at food labelling and learning to make healthy choices. They are looking forward to an excursion tomor‐row to Bluehills Berries and Cherries farm where they will pick their own fruit.

From Mrs Andoh‐Okai It has been a month of firsts and a month of new experi‐ences. We have welcomed new families, new staff and new programs. I, and other staff at the ELC, have experi‐enced new roles and responsibilities and happily worked to fill these new positions. It has been a challenging, re‐warding and fast paced month but how blessed we are to
have had God through it all. This month has taught me that no matter how busy the week feels, no matter how many times I question how I will fit all of the things into my week that I need to, God has got His hand in our Centre and He is taking us to where we need to be. He is our foundation and our guide. To God be the glory. I pray as we head into the rest of this year that we always remember who is guiding us and who is keeping us. God. These Bible verses have given me comfort and guidance through this month and may they offer the same to you throughout this year.
Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your
God. I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16‐18 “Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances,
for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”

Swimming Lessons Underway Last Friday was a great day to be in the water to start the term’s swim‐ming instruction. REMINDER: All girls are required to wear one piece
bathers or a rash shirt over bikinis to swimming lessons.
Busy Kids at the Early Learning Centre Kinder (Purple) Room Our Kinder students have been exploring the College campus. This is one of the ways they learn about community. The students under‐stand that they are in Kinder but that they are part of the Edinburgh College family.
Edinburgh College Students Commence Traineeship This year, four students have been accepted at the ELC to undertake their school based traineeship. Congratulations, Emelia, Jess, Brehanna and Rebekah on being accepted into this traineeship program.
Merit Awards Each week Mrs Pascoe presents a certificate to two Primary students who have been seen to demon‐strate exemplary behaviour, being helpful to others or per‐haps demonstrating the Value of the Week. This week Merit Awards were presented to Liana for persis‐tence during swimming and

From Pastor Ryan
It seems for many that 2016 was the year to forget. I don't know about you but there are a few things that I would prefer stay in the previous year. Last week I had the privilege to attend a 'pastors’ retreat'. There with some of my colleagues I was able
to stop for a moment and really con‐sider what I wanted my 2017 to look like. Have you stopped and consid‐ered what you want your 2017 to look like? Or are you in cruise con‐trol? Perhaps some of the failures of 2016 can be successes of 2017 with some planning. Whether you're a student, teacher or parent, having some planned goals for your year (personal/professional/spiritual) can be a great thing!
Swimming Carnival Last Wednesday students from Years 5 through to Year 12 competed in the annual College swimming carnival. Yarra, Gilson and Melba were well represented. GILSON (Blue) came out on top at the end of the day with points awarded for student participation and events. The Year 5 & 6 students really enjoyed the opportunity to participate in this year’s carnival.
Breanna, Year 6 Melba House Captain said she noticed that everyone was kind and cheered for everyone on their team. I think they did great!
Oliver, Year 6 Gilson House Captain enjoyed how everybody had a go. He liked that points were awarded to everyone who had a go, even if they came last.
Tom, Year 6 Yarra House Captain said he liked that anybody could join in. He felt it was very fair and the rules were good rules. He was proud that Yarra won ‘best dressed’. Congratulations to Gilson House on winning the 2017 swimming carnival trophy.
Neither height nor depth nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the
love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
