to this new venture. EAS, he explains, is providing Mold, Asbestos, and Res-toration testing & consulting services. “We set ourselves

apart by having a diverse background and understand-ing of what restoration and insurance professionals need from us. I know what a contractor needs to keep their client happy, and help the adjuster close their file. A Bay Area native, Jacob grew up in Fremont, and went to high school and college in Santa Cruz.

“I worked for my father’s restoration firm when I was a teenager and throughout my college years, and into my twenties.”In reality, Jacob started Environmental Assessment Services back in 2005. “I took a break, working with another firm since 2010,” he explains. “The time and circumstances are now right, and now I am back at it with EAS.”Mr. Hunter is a Council Certified Indoor Environmen-talist by the ACAC, and an IICRC Applied Structural Drying Specialist. He also holds a Commercial Drying Specialist credential among his many other IICRC certifications.

2015 Early-Bird Membership Deal! Join or Renew Now & SaveOn the success of a similar offer the past couple of years, the East Bay Claims Association Board of Directors has elected to offer-up a bit of a reward for

returning members for the coming year, as well as an enticement for new members. “We really appreciate all the support this organization has enjoyed the past several years,” stated EBCA President Joe Baughman. Overall membership and meeting attendance has been consistent and substantial. Still, the sense that there aren’t many adjusters at any given function remains pervasive. “As with all our sister groups, we continue to encourage the carrier claims people and independent adjusters participate, and to become more involved,” Joe added. “East Bay Claims Association is always committed to maintaining a high degree of professional courtesy within our ranks.”

The organization has been actively taking measures to continue to raise its standing within the community, as well.As an established charitable 501c(3) non-profit organization, EBCA has added the status of the Continuing Education Provider credential to the reasons to be more involved. There seems to be a bit of a revival of carriers supporting their claims people joining and supporting their local associations. The EBCA Board has opted to continue to offer annual FREE Member-ships to insurance claims adjusters. Completion and submission of a simple membership application now allows all such claims people the benefits of membership. The Early-Bird discount amounts to a 10% savings off the normal annual membership dues. Beginning October 1, 2015, and running through the end of the year, current members may renew for just $45 for individuals, or $90 for Corporate membership (three people per corporate membership - multiple corporate memberships accepted). New members joining for the first time receive the balance of the current year and all of 2015. Sign up or renew now at EastBayAdjusters.org.

The EBCA Board recently voted to add local-based Shelter, Inc. as a worthy venture to the organization’s list of charitable causes. The first official recognition of this new relationship came at the September 9, 2015 lun-cheon meeting, where the EBCA presented Theresita Gonzalez, Shelter Inc. Resource Coordinator to address the luncheon crowd. Ms. Gonzalez proceeded to wow the crowd with stories of their work. The Shelter, Inc. motto, "Inspiring people, changing lives, Ending Homelessness” involves action, not lip service, to dealing with this growing urban blight. EBCA presented Ms. Gonzalez with a $500 donation, as well as a table full of new baby items delivered from the EBCA "Stork Drive". EBCA Thanks to everyone who contributed.Featured guest speaker Vinh Q Pham, V.P. of Operations at Envirocheck, gave a very interesting, informative and humorous presentation on his topic of the day, “Meth Lab Clean-Up”.

The October 14, 2015 and the November 11, 2015 EBCA meetings will both include the annual Food donation drive.

EBCA Doubles-Down on 2015 Food Drive Effort

Join the EBCA in supporting the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano Counties by bringing a collection of non-perishable, new and wrapped food items to the next two meetings: October 14th and November 11th.Started in 1975, the Food Bank of Con-tra Costa and Solano Counties is cele-brating their 40th anniversary this year. The organization stores and distributes donated and purchased perishable and nonperishable food items. “We distribute food directly to low-in-come people at community sites and make food available for other nonprofit organizations serving the ill, needy and children,” they state on their web site. The Food Bank works to reduce food

waste, feed hungry people and raise public awareness of issues related to food and hunger. The organization reports that, in Con-tra Costa and Solano counties, 1 in 8 people rely on emergency food. “The Food Bank has developed programs that address the size of this need as well as nutritional needs of the people we serve.”

The Food Bank ensures safe food is available to the hungry in our com-munity. “We achieved a food safety certification and superior rating from the American Institute of Baking, Inter-national (AIB).” AIB accreditation and audits are internationally recognized as the most stringent in the food industry.

“I have completed very large com-plicated mold remediation, con-struction and restoration projects from many different perspectives. When I walk onto a project as a hy-gienist, I understand the different perspectives of the stakeholders in the project. In his free time, Jacob is also an assistant coach of a High School Varsity Water Polo team, and club polo with Ellis Aquatics. Jacob Hunter, and Environmental Assessment Services, may be reached at: (888) 486-6414 or email [email protected].

In Memoriam

Kate Steinle

From the heart of a loving brother to all:As many of you are aware The Steinle Family suffered a tragic loss on Wednesday July 1st, 2015 when Kath-ryn “Kate” Steinle lost her life to a senseless random

act of violence. Our industry is most familiar with her outgoing, loving, and kind brother, Brad Steinle of Environmental Remedies Inc., ERI. Brad and Kate share the same infectious smile and love for all.

“Kate was my best friend and the most loving sister a brother could ask for. Kate’s love for this world reached out past her smile and generosity to the wonderful organizations she constantly supported. While my emotions and those of our family are from tears in our grief of her passing to the laughter from all our wonderful memories we want the focus to remain on Kate and not the act of violence, media, and the political views taking place. Kate would want us all to learn one thing from this…to cherish and love those in our life. I am never going to have an opportunity to tell my sister I love her again and laugh with her as we always did. Many people have been reaching out and sharing their condolences, support, and love. We are so blessed to have so many caring people in our lives."I reflect on what Kate would want from all of this and I believe with everything in my heart Kate would want nothing more than for us to let go of our anger and love one another, laugh with one another, and cherish each person in our life, as we are not promised tomorrow."You ask what can I do? How can I help the family get through this trage-dy?…well here is how: Please tell those in your life you love them every moment you get. This act of love will allow Kate’s light to shine for us all to see. Mr. Pham has been with Envirocheck since their conception in 1998. His offices are in southern California. The most common way to make this drug is "cooking", a most dangerous process. Very corrosive, explosive and hazardous to skin, the ingredients used in this process are toxic. Proper-ties used as “Cook Houses” require major work to refurbish them to where they are habitable again. There are other methods of making meth: a “Cold” method and “Biker” method. Mr. Pham described in some detail each process. Part of the Meth Lab popularity, he explained, is that each one of these methods can produce the product using common household products, including: Sudafed (cold medicine), Iodine, ker-osene, Drain-O and table salt. When investigating claims, he advised, be aware that those involved sometimes boobie-trap the property with exploding light bulbs, firearms, even spikes or nails in the grass to deter invaders. Every insurance policy is unique according to coverage. Most Commercial policies are very specific regarding illegal "Meth Labs", but there
