In addition, the donation will be used to purchase a new device designed to improve mobility of wheelchair-bound chil- dren. The device supports the child’s upper torso above a slow-moving tread- mill. This $6,000 device will provide an opportunity for children to build muscles, bear weight and learn the “technique” of walking. Other communications devices purchased with IADC-provided funds were on display throughout the library. HISD speech pathologists and special-education professionals demonstrated for the IADC visitors an age-appropriate communica- tion “game” that will involve the parents, teachers, neighbors, and other community members with team members as they per- fect their communication skills. Just Like Us, Inc. is volunteer-operated with 100% of the funds it receives benefit- ing the children it serves. The charity is also involved with a new project called the Life Resource Center (LRC), providing after-school care, vocational training, day habilitation, rehab, and respite for care- givers. WellCAP Plus mini-pilot A one-day "mini-pilot” of the proposed WellCAP Plus program was held 12 March at the Transocean Houston Training Center. Feedback from the mini-pilot will be used to refine the program. A real-time four-day full course pilot is set for July in Lafayette, LA. Previews of the program will be provided at the Well Control Conference of the Americas in Albuquerque in October and the International Well Control Conference in Dubai in December. WellCAP Plus is designed to focus on advanced well con- trol students utilizing a facilitated team approach. The mini-pilot was facilitated by Ron Fuqua, BP; John Smith, Louisiana State University; and Gary Nance, Randy Smith Training Solutions, all members of the WellCAP Plus development team. Well control kill sheet The IADC Well Control Committee formed a workgroup to develop a standardized IADC well control kill sheet. As with cer- tain manuals that have been preapproved for use with WellCAP, the kill sheet would be made available to well control schools but they would remain free to develop and use sheets of their own design. The work- group is chaired by Ed Geissler, Nabors International. Other members include Frank Klepper, Petroleum College International; Dwayne McClelland, ChevronTexaco; Gary Nance, Randy Smith Training Solutions; Steve Vorenkamp, Well Control Schools; and Hal Kendall, Noble Corporation.
