    BLACK

Black symbolizes the unknown, the unconscious,

and mystery. The color invites you to delve

deeper in your unconscious in order to gain a

better understanding of yourself. It also signies

potential and possibilities. It is like a clean or

blank slate. In dreams blackness can imply

    hidden spirituality and divine qualities.

    GOLD

One of the more valued elements, gold

represents perfection in all matter, on any level.

It also symbolizes humankinds quest to perfect,

illuminate and rene its self. But lets be real,

gold is the international symbol of power,

    strength and wealth

    25/31

BLACK GOLD has long been apopular euphemism for the crude oil that

helped establish Texas as frontier of great

wealth and bombastic personalit ies. As

such, Texans have never been shy about

    extravagance or excess Everthings

bigger in Texas. Part of the Dream ethos

is in finding the key personality that

defines a locale and turning it into a

Dream Version of what can be. Dallas

is, by far, the most cosmopolitan

of Texan cities. The enclaves north of

the city are home to some of the most

affluent and stylish abodes in North

America that exemplify the collis ion

of continental style with Big Texas flare.

    PUBLIC SPACES

The exploration of the color schemes

of black and gold seems tting with

    its rich contrast and unabashed

    association with luxury. Its application

both to public spaces and the

guest chambers will be given depth

    by mixing surface treatments and

textile textures to establish a deep luxe

that is all at once globally tempered,

    cosmopolitan and uniquely Dallas.

    DORO NEGRO

The notion of a steakhouse as the ground

    oor food and beverage establishment

was tabled and, in response to that,

a concept was birthed for discussion.

The steakhouse market is one that is always

a bit more competitive than other culinary

options and Dallas has no shortage of

competitors. Having said that, there is always

room for a new kid on the block if the

concept offers both something new and

aswell executed menu. DOro Negro is

the spanish translation of Black Gold. The

underlying idea is to produce something

that is still a true steakhouse at the core,

but add a top spin that is Mexican-infused

or inspired. All of the expected select cutsshould be available on the menu, but

the side dishes and sauces should be twisted to offer a newexperience for the palate. This spin can, of course, also inform

the beverage program as well. The menu pricing should be

at the higher end of the market, but still accessible enough to

be a regular haunt to those in the know and hotel guests alike.

    GUESTACCOMMODATIONS

In the world of lifestyle hotels, weve seen

design move from a more modern or post

modern minimalist viewpoint, to a more

modied traditional as of late. For this

location, wed like top start with a loft base

    (concrete oors, exposed beams, etc)

there is a very rich use of fabric and texture

suggested, again playing on the black and

gold motif. Faux crocodile wall coverings

    play against herringbone tweeds. Patterns

in black and white add visual interest and

death of space. Light stabs at the western

roots of Dallas are taken in a surrealist

way by use of Chinese horses and western

buckle door crests. Rich, dark cowhides

applied to furnishings as upholsteryad both nature and urbanity in sync.

    THE STARK CLUB

Since the pool level will serve as a watering

hole in both senses of the term, it could be

interesting to reinvent the Starck Club of

80s fame. This cultural phenomena drew a

collection of inuencers from the arts and

    entertainment communities and those who

adored them. The space opened in 1984

and was the rst space in the US designed

    by Philippe Starck.

By removing the C from the name, it

removes the reference to the now ubiqui-

tous designer. The way forward in a design

sense could be to combine the ilk of Nikki

Beachin St Tropez with a dash of iconic 80s.
