The Worship of Father, Son & Holy SpiritFebruary 5, 2012

The Lord’s Day

Welcome in the name of the Lord Jesus! If you are a guest with us, please be sure to sign our Registry when it is passedbefore the service. Children are welcome in our worship. We have a nursery available for children 3 and under. Children4 to 6 years of age may be dismissed to Godly Play prior to the sermon. Thank you for joining us today and may the Lordrichly bless you.

Song of Assembly1

You Are God Alone FooteYou are not a god, created by human hands

You are not a god, dependent on any mortal manYou are not a god, in need of anything we can give

By Your plan, that’s just the way it is

You are God alone, from before time beganYou were on Your throne, You are God alone

And right now, in the good times and badYou are on Your throne, You are God alone

You’re the only God, whose power none can contendYou’re the only God, whose name and praise will never end

You’re the only God, who’s worthy of everything we can giveYou are God, and that’s just the way it is

Unchangeable, Unshakable, UnstoppableThat’s what You are

Welcome and Preparation for WorshipThe Jewish Passover was made to melt into the Lord’s Supper, as the stars of the morning dissolve into the light of the sun. ~C.H. Spurgeon

What does it mean to eat the crucified body of Christ and to drink his poured-out blood? It means to accept with abelieving heart the entire suffering and death of Christ and by believing to receive forgiveness of sins and eternal life. Butit means more. Through the Holy Spirit, who lives both in Christ and in us, we are united more and more to Christ’sblessed body. And so, although he is in heaven and we are on earth, we are flesh of his flesh and bone of his bone. And weforever live on and are governed by one Spirit, as members of our body are by one soul. ~The Heidelberg Catechism, Question #76

For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. ~1 Corinthians 11:26

The Lord Calls Us to Worship HimResponsive Call to Worship2 Exodus 15:2; 2 Samuel 22:4; 1 Chronicles 16:25

Song To God Be the Glory Kids of the King

Pastor: The LORD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’sGod, and I will exalt him!

People: I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies!

All: For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised!

Prayer of Adoration & Praise Based on Psalm 147

Hymn of Praise

Praise to the Lord the Almighty NeanderPraise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!

O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy health and salvation! All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near,

Join me in glad adoration.

Praise to the Lord, Who o’er all things so wondrously reigneth,Shelters thee under His wings, yea, so gently sustaineth!

Hast thou not seen how thy desires e’er have beenGranted in what He ordaineth?

Praise to the Lord, O let all that is in me adore Him!All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before Him!

Let the amen sound from His people again;Gladly fore’er we adore Him.

Reading of the Word: “The Son of Man goes as it is written of him” (Matt. 26:24) Isaiah 53:7-9He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like asheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. By oppression and judgment he was taken away; andas for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of mypeople? And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, andthere was no deceit in his mouth.

2 We believe that God always initiates with sinners, so we begin worship with his invitation and command to us to gather in His name.2

The Lord Graciously Renews Us in ChristHis People Confess their TransgressionsAlmighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep. We have followed toomuch the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against your holy law. We have left undone thosethings which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done; and there isno health in us. But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare us, O God, we who confess oursins. Restore us as we turn to you, according to your promises declared unto us in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant,O most merciful Father, for Jesus’ sake, that we may from this day forward live a godly, righteous, and sober life tothe glory of your holy name. ...Silent & Personalized Confession of Sin... Amen!

The Righteousness of God Romans 3:20, 22By works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight.... the righteousness of God [comes] through faith in JesusChrist for all who believe.

Worship with Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs

Let Us Love and Sing and Wonder NewtonLet us love and sing and wonder, let us praise the Savior’s name.

He has hushed the law’s loud thunder, He has quenched Mount Sinai’s flame. He has washed us with His blood, He has washed us with His blood,He has washed us with His blood, He has brought us nigh to God.

Let us love the Lord Who bought us, pitied us when enemies,Called us by His grace and taught us, gave us ears and gave us eyes.

He has washed us with His blood, He has washed us with His blood,He has washed us with His blood, He presents our souls to God.

Let us sing though fierce temptation threaten hard to bear us down. For the Lord, our strong salvation, holds in view the conqu’ror’s crown.

He, Who washed us with His blood, He, Who washed us with His blood,He, Who washed us with His blood, soon will bring us home to God.

Let us praise and join the chorus of the saints enthroned on high. Here they trusted Him before us, now their praises fill the sky.

Thou hast washed us with Thy blood, Thou hast washed us with Thy blood,Thou hast washed us with Thy blood, Thou are worthy Lamb of God.

Mighty to Save Feilding/MorganEveryone needs compassion, a love that’s never failing

Let mercy fall on me.Everyone needs forgiveness, the kindness of a Saviour,

The Hope of nations.

Saviour, He can move the mountains; My God is mighty to save, He is mighty to save

I give my life to follow everything I believe in,Now I surrender.

Shine your light and let the whole world seeWe’re singing for the glory of the risen King. Jesus!

Shine your light and let the whole world seeWe’re singing for the glory of the risen King.

The Potter’s Hand ZschechBeautiful Lord, Wonderful Saviour, I know for sure,

All of my days are held in your hands, crafted into your perfect plan. You gently call me into your presence, guiding me by Your Holy Spirit

Teach me, dear Lord, to live all of my life through Your eyes.I’m captured by Your holy calling, set me apart,

I know you’re drawing me to yourself, lead me Lord, I pray.

Take me, mould me, use me, fill me. I give my life to the Potter’s hand.Call me, guide me, lead me, walk beside me. I give my life to the Potter’s hand.

We Respond

There Is A Fountain Filled with Blood CowperThere is a fountain filled with blood, drawn from Immanuel’s veins; And sinners, plunged beneath that flood, lose all their guilty stains. And sinners, plunged beneath that flood, lose all their guilty stains.

The dying thief rejoiced to see that fountain in his day;And there may I, though vile as he, wash all my sins away. And there may I, though vile as he, wash all my sins away.

O dying Lamb, thy precious blood shall never lose its power,Till all the ransomed church of God be saved to sin no more.Till all the ransomed church of God be saved to sin no more.

E’er since by faith I saw the stream thy flowing wounds supply,Redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die.Redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die.

The Lord Meets Us at His TableA Covenant Child Comes to the Table Nick Plemons

Solemn Vows (PCA Book of Church Order §57-5)Do you acknowledge yourself to be a sinner in the sight of God, justly deserving His displeasure, and without hope exceptthrough His sovereign mercy?

Do you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and Savior of sinners, and do you receive and rest upon Him alonefor salvation as He is offered in the Gospel?

Do you now resolve and promise, in humble reliance upon the grace of the Holy Spirit, that you will endeavor to live as becomesfollowers of Christ?

Do you promise to support the Church in its worship and work to the best of your abilities?

Do you submit yourself to the government and discipline of the Church, and promise to study its purity and peace?

The Sacrament of the Lord’s SupperCommunion, also called The Lord’s Supper or Eucharist, is the family meal of Christians. We invite all committedfollowers of Jesus Christ to share in this sacrament: those who are baptized members of a congregation that proclaims thegospel, who are at peace with God and their neighbor, and who seek strength to live in a deeper communion with Jesus. If you are not a Christian, or you are not prepared to share in this meal, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer. We hope that this time is helpful to you as you consider your relationship with Jesus Christ and with his people, the Church.

Be Still My Soul SibeliusBe still my soul: the Lord is on thy side; bear patiently the cross of grief or pain.Leave to thy God to order and provide; in ev’ry change He faithful will remain.

Be still, my soul: thy best, thy heavenly Friend thro’ thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertake to guide the future as He has the past.Thy hope, thy confidence, let nothing shake; all now mysterious shall be bright at last.

Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below.

Be still, my soul: the hour is hastn’ing on when we shall be forever with the Lord,When disappointment, grief and fear are gone, sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.Be still, my soul, when change and tears are past, all safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

The Lord Blesses Us and Sends Us OutBenediction4 2 Corinthians 13:14The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

We Are the Body of Christ HamptonOne heart, one Spirit, one voice to praise You,

We are the body of Christ. One goal, one vision, to see You exalted,

We are the body of Christ. And to this we give our lives

To see You glorified.

One heart, one Spirit, one voice to praise You,We are the body of Christ. We are the body of Christ.

4 Just as God called us into His presence at the beginning, so now He commands His blessing upon us as we depart. We look up and extend our handsin a posture of thanksgiving as we receive this great gift. Our final response to God’s assurance of His peace and presence upon those who are in Christis a chorus of joyful song.

DPC ANNOUNCEMENTS

MISSIONARY VISIT!On Wednesday night, February 15, our missionar-ies Bill & Cheryl Nikides (and their friend fromBangladesh, Rev. Edward Ayub) will be joining us!Bill and Cheryl have been helping missionaries for12 years since Bill’s retirement from the military. As a Director with i2 Ministries Bill trains churchplanters, church leaders, pastors and missionarieson three continents (Asia, Africa, Latin America).Bill also develops training courses and travelsextensively. Rev. Edward Ayub is a Presbyterianpastor in Bangladesh and is moderator of theirGeneral Assembly. In addition to their main work the Nikides and andRev. Ayub are concerned about what are called“insider movements”. These are part of a verydisturbing trend in which some missionaries andchurch leaders blur the distinctions between Islamand Christianity. Some even teach that that aMuslim follower of Jesus can retain all Muslimpractices, including prayer toward Mecca and reci-tation of the Muslim Creed. Bill is involved inmaking a documentary film about insider move-ments that will be available this summer.Decatur Presbyterian Church provides about 10%of the annual support for the Nikides. Please check out the web site at i2ministries.organd the one for the film halfdevilhalfchild.com. TheFacebook link on this website has some greatphotos on-location in Bangladesh. The phrase“Half devil and half child” comes from RudyardKipling’s poem The White Man’s Burden whichexposes the arrogance of colonial powers who feltthat they were “civilizing” indigenous peoples thatthey were in fact colonizing.
