The Worship of Father, Son & Holy SpiritSeptember 25, 2011

The Lord’s Day

Welcome in the name of the Lord Jesus! If you are a guest with us, please be sure to sign our Registry when it is passedbefore the service. Children are welcome in our worship. We have a nursery available for children 3 and under. Children4 to 6 years of age may be dismissed to Godly Play prior to the sermon. Thank you for joining us today and may the Lordrichly bless you.

Song of Assembly1

Sing to the King Foote/PearonSing to the King Who is coming to reign, glory to Jesus, the Lamb that was slain

Life and salvation His empire shall bring, and joy to the nations when Jesus is King.

Come, let us sing a song; a song declaring that we belong to Jesus, He is all we need.Lift up a heart of praise, sing now with voices raised to Jesus, sing to the King.

For His returning we watch and we pray, we will be ready the dawn of that dayWe’ll join in singing with all the redeemed ’cause Satan is vanquished and my Jesus is King.

Welcome and Preparation for WorshipWhat the apostles did know was that the kingdom of God came with Jesus, that the decisive salvation events whichestablished it (his death, resurrection, exaltation and the gift of the Spirit) had already taken place, and that God hadnothing on his calendar before the parousia. It would be next and culminating event. So they were, and we are, living in‘the last days’. It is in this sense that Christ is coming ‘soon’. We must be watchful and alert, because we do not know thetime. ~ John Stott

He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! ~ Revelation 22:20

Prayer of Adoration & Praise

Hymn of Praise

We Praise You, O God, Our Redeemer, Creator CoryWe praise you, O God, our redeemer, Creator;

In grateful devotion our tribute we bring.We lay it before You, we kneel and adore You:We bless Your holy Name, glad praises we sing.

We worship You, God of our fathers, we bless You;Through life’s storm and tempest our Guide You have been.

When perils o’er take us, escape You will make us,And with Your help, O Lord, our battles we win.

With voices united our praises we offer,To You, great Jehovah, glad anthems we raise.

Your strong arm will guide us, our God is beside us;To You, our great Redeemer, forever be praise.

Meditation: Christ is the True Vine John 15:4, 5Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless youabide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, forapart from me you can do nothing.

Song Remain in Me Kids of the King(John 15:5)

The Lord Gives Us His GraceOur Need for a Savior Proverbs 20:9Who can say, “I have made my heart pure; I am clean from my sin”?

We Confess our SinsMost merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done,and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors asourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us andforgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name... Silent & PersonalizedConfession of Sin... Amen!

By Grace Alone We are Saved Proverbs 20:12; Ephesians 2:8, 9The hearing [that is, “obedient”] ear and the seeing [that is, “understanding”] eye, the LORD has made them both... Forby grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, sothat no one may boast.

Worship with Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs

Lead On, O King Eternal ShurtleffLead on, O King eternal, the day of march has come;

Henceforth in fields of conquest, thy tents shall be our home.Through days of preparation, thy grace has made us strong;

And now, O King eternal, we lift our battle song.

Lead on, O King eternal, till sin's fierce war shall cease,And holiness shall whisper, the sweet amen of peace.

For not with swords loud clashing, nor roll of stirring drums;With deeds of love and mercy the heavenly kingdom comes.

So lead on, O King, Lead on, O King,Lead on, O King, Lead on.

Lead on, O King eternal, we follow, not with fears,For gladness breaks like morning where'er thy face appears.

Thy cross is lifted o'er us, we journey in its light;The crown awaits the conquest; lead on, O God of might.

Take My Life Havergal/TomlinTake my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee;

Take my moments and my days, let them flow in endless praise;

Take my hands and let them move at the impulse of Thy love.Take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee;

Take my voice and let me sing, always, only for my King.Take my lips and let them be filled with messages from Thee;

Take my silver and my gold, not a mite would I withhold.Take my intellect and use every pow'r as Thou shalt choose.

Here am I, all of me. Take my life, it's all for Thee.Take myself and I will be ever, only all for Thee.

Take my will and make it Thine, it shall be no longer mine;Take my heart, it is Thine own, it shall be Thy royal throne.

Take my love, my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store;Take myself and I will be ever, only, all for Thee.

XCIV. The End of the World As They Knew ItMatthew 24:15-28

We Confess Our Faith in Jesus ChristI believe that this man Jesus: was crucified, was dead, and was buried; that the third day he rose again from the dead; thathe ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty.

I believe that this same Jesus: was promised beforehand in the sacred Scriptures; was born son of Mary, and of the seed ofDavid according to the flesh; was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead, accordingto the Spirit of holiness.

I believe that this man Jesus: is Christ, Israel's Messiah, our Lord and God. And I confess that you Lord Jesus — notdespising the womb of a virgin, to become human — overcame death, and opened the kingdom of heaven to the faithful.

3 4, 5, & 6 year-old children may be dismissed before the sermon to Godly Play in room 173.4

Page 6: DPC Bulletin - September 25, 2011

And I believe that this same man Jesus, the one Lord Christ, is both God and man. I believe that he is seated at the righthand of the Father, that he will come again in glory to judge both the living and the dead, and that his kingdom will haveno end.

O Lord with all eagerness now, I look for the resurrection of the dead — for myself, and for all who love you — and I lookfor everything promised in the world to come, so that what is mortal in me may be swallowed up by Life.

Lord, I believe, help my unbelief. Praise God in the highest! Amen!

The Lord Gives Us His SacramentThe Sacrament of the Lord’s SupperCommunion, also called The Lord’s Supper or Eucharist, is the family meal of Christians. We invite all committedfollowers of Jesus Christ to share in this sacrament: those who are baptized members of a congregation that proclaims thegospel, who are at peace with God and their neighbor, and who seek strength to live in a deeper communion with Jesus.If you are not a Christian, or you are not prepared to share in this meal, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer.We hope that this time is helpful to you as you consider your relationship with Jesus Christ and with his people, the Church.

Be Still My Soul SibeliusBe still my soul: the Lord is on thy side;Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain.Leave to thy God to order and provide;In ev’ry change He faithful will remain.

Be still, my soul: thy best, thy heavenly FriendThro’ thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertakeTo guide the future as He has the past.

Thy hope, thy confidence, let nothing shake;All now mysterious shall be bright at last.

Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still knowHis voice who ruled them while He dwelt below.

Be still, my soul: the hour is hastn’ing onWhen we shall be forever with the Lord,

When disappointment, grief and fear are gone,Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.

Be still, my soul, when change and tears are past,All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

The Lord Gives Us His BlessingBenediction4 Numbers 6:24-26The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift uphis countenance upon you and give you peace.

Our God TomlinOur God is greater, our God is stronger

God You are higher than any otherOur God is Healer, awesome in power

Our God, our God...

4 Just as God called us into His presence at the beginning, so now He commands His blessing upon us as we depart. We look up and extend our handsin a posture of thanksgiving as we receive this great gift. Our final response to God’s assurance of His peace and presence upon those who are in Christis a chorus of joyful song.

Adult Christian Education Classes9:30AM

“A Long Obedience in the Same Direction”A study of Eugene Peterson’s book looking at the Psalms of Ascent (Psalms 120-134). These are the particular songs thatthe Hebrew pilgrims would sing on their way up to worship in Jerusalem, and they have much to teach us about worship,service, joy, work, happiness, humility, community and blessing. Room 167a, (right off the sanctuary).

“The Righteous Shall Live By Faith”A study of R. C. Sproul’s book looking at the book of Romans. The book of Romans has been called “Paul’s fullest,grandest, most comprehensive statement of the gospel,” and it’s just as vital for the church today as on the day it waswritten. Room 158a, (down the hall from the church office).

Sedona Class for Young AdultsThe Young Adult Class is studying the book of John, using an excellent study guide (very understandable and applicable)by Frank Barker. The book of John was “written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and thatby believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31). Room 168a — the “waterfall room,” off the back hallway, whichcan be accessed from the hallway across from the church office.
