Nursing students practice in an on-campus simulation center and participate in clinical experiences; nutrition students prepare food in a state-of-the-art instructional kitchen with an adjoining student-run café; and journalism students produce newscasts and multimedia story packages that run in more than 30 media outlets in Arizona and beyond.

vibrant student lifeThe Downtown Phoenix campus is home to more than 80 student clubs ranging from Undergraduate Student Government Downtown to the Programming Activities Board and from the Student Nutrition Council to the Society of Professional Journalists. These student organizations, along with academic disciplines, the Office of Student Engagement, residential colleges, intramural sports and others, provide ample opportunities for students to get involved and stay engaged outside of the classroom.

Downtown students also are enthusiastic supporters of ASU athletics. Sun Devil football and basketball games, as well as many other ASU sporting events, are just a light-rail ride away on the Tempe campus. Downtown students have won spirit awards for attendance at games.

growing campusThe campus that opened in 2006 now boasts more than 10,000-plus students and is continuing to grow, with an expanded park, the new Sun Devil Fitness Complex, including a rooftop pool, and a student center with space for club meetings and relaxing.

professional opportunities The campus’ proximity to downtown Phoenix’s thriving business district puts journalism students close to internships at major media organizations such as The Arizona Republic, the state’s largest newspaper, and 12 News, the Phoenix NBC affiliate, located just steps from campus. For nursing and health majors looking for opportunities, downtown health organizations include United Healthcare, Phoenix VA Healthcare Systems, Banner Health and Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Almost as close are the Greater Phoenix Convention & Visitors Bureau and many hotels, where tourism majors hone their skills. Public programs majors intern at state and city agencies such as the Arizona Department of Education and the Phoenix Housing Department as well as various nonprofits. City Hall, the state Legislature, the Arizona Supreme Court, municipal, county and federal courts and Phoenix historical sites are just a few minutes away, as is the Phoenix Biomedical Campus, a statewide hub for biomedical research.

major metropolitan cityYou don’t have to go far to discover rich entertainment offerings in the heart of the nation’s sixth-largest city. Sports fans can catch a baseball game at Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, or at US Airways Center, home to Phoenix’s NBA and WNBA teams, the Suns and the Mercury, in addition to concerts and live entertainment.

Arts aficionados can enjoy up-and-coming bands or take in opera, symphony, ballet and theater performances in fine arts venues located blocks from the school or participate in the First Friday art walks on nearby Roosevelt Row. Cultural landmarks such as the Phoenix Art Museum and the Heard Museum are just a short trip away on light rail. A free ASU shuttle is available with free Wi-Fi to take students, faculty and staff to other ASU campuses.

Live music, dining and boutiques are never hard to find; a farmers market offers fresh produce and local food; and a community cinema shows independent films in nearby Civic Space Park. Entertainment complex CityScape features a luxury bowling alley, live music, a comedy club and a seasonal ice skating rink.
