SPECIAL INSTRUCTION FOR GRADE 1 CHILDREN UNDER THE K TO 12 BASIC EDUCATION PROGRAM
To: Bureau Directors Regional Directors Schools Division/City Superintendents Heads, Public Elementary Schools
I . In view of the implementation of the Grade 1 Curriculum of the K to 12 Basic Education Program and per DepEd Order No. 73, s. 2012. entitled Guidelines on the Assessment and Ruling of Learning Outcomes Under the K to 12 Basic Education Program, public elementary schools are advised to conduct Special Instruction for Grade 1 Children, who still obtained a general average of B (Beginning) at the end of school year (SY) despite interventions provided during the school year (SY). This is to ensure that these children are prepared for Grade 2. However, if children are still found to have difficulty in learning, they may be referred to Special Education (SPED) Programs for further assessment and provision of the necessary and appropriate intervention.
2. For the coming SYs, schools are requested to track the quarterly progress of the children in every learning area. and provide immediate and appropriate interventions to those with difficulty in learning. Such undertaking may not necessitate the conduct of special instruction.
3. The conduct of the special instruction shall be held during the opening of classes in June either in the morning or in the afternoon when the children are free. Instruction to be provided shall be by learning areas and lessons, and it shall focus on the concepts and skills which are "least learned" by the children. Children shall only take up the learning area/s where they need help. School heads (SHs), however, are required to supervise the conduct of the special instruction to warrant the quality of learning outcomes.
4. Immediate dissemination of this Memorandum is desired.
