Firstly on behalf of the committee I would like to thank
all of you who attended the 15th Dalmatian National.
Also a huge thank you to our Patron, Joan Roseworn.
It was a huge two days, with a lot happening on the
CCCQ grounds and behind the scenes.
I would personally like to thank my good friend, Wendy
Maxwell who was our photographer for the event. A lot
of people don’t realise the time and commitment that
goes into taking the photos, and then editing them.
It’s a huge job, and I am grateful for the results!
While we are still on the topic of the National, in this
issue you will find the results and also the conformation
judges critique. Until next time,
Samantha Hartley

Dotty idea for Dauntsey Couple’s Wedding.
Dog lovers Phil and Lou Garton enjoyed their dream wedding—with 58 human guests and 31 Dal-
matians.
The couple, who live in Dauntsey, took along their
own five Dalmatians for the wedding in June.
The unusual nuptials will feature on channel 4 show,
Wedding House. The show follows the fortunes of
different couples having bizarre wedding ceremonies.
The couple, who have been together for 16 years,
were looking for a suitable venue for a dog-themed
wedding when they saw an advert for the show.
After a discussion about what they wanted the
wedding day, plans were taken over by the
programme makers.
Dog trainer Mrs Garton, 38, said: “It was so nice not having to worry about organising anything.
The important thing was we were getting married with our friends and our dogs.”
The couple were wed at Sundridge Park in Kent, UK.

Judges Conformation Critique It was a great honour and privilege to be invited to
judge this prestigious National Specialty and I
must say a big thank you to the Dalmatian
Association of Queensland Inc. for hosting and
running the show so competently. Everyone
worked so hard to make this a very special
occasion for the exhibitors and for me too. The
venue was excellent with a ring of excellent size,
parking was convenient and there was plenty of
shade for the Dalmatians. Hospitality was
generous and there was a huge array of splendid
prizes on offer. Thanks also go to my steward
Mrs. J Ruddle and writer Mrs. C Elliot and also to
Club Patron Mrs. Joan Roseworn for keeping me
company at lunch.
A sincere thank you to all the exhibitors, some of
whom drove significant distances, to show their
Dalmatians under me, and to all of you who took
my decisions with such good grace. I was
advised at the beginning of the show to ensure
that I took my time judging and that’s what I did. I
wanted to be sure that everyone had sufficient
opportunity to gait and stand their dogs so that I
could thoroughly assess the virtues of each
Dalmatian. That’s why folks, you did so much
moving around rather than a cursory once round
and across the ring and back!
My general remarks are as follows: I loved my line
ups…..you have are some beautiful quality
Dalmatians who could win anywhere in the world.
Because of the consistency of breed type and
good movement, sadly, not enough first prizes to
award! These Dalmatians meet the standard, have
substance with elegance and can easily do the job
demanded of a carriage dog.
Endurance would not be a problem for these dogs.
I found all the dogs temperaments to be very good
and there was even a ‘smiler’, which is always
delightful. Spotting was generally very good with
some lovely liver colour. My final decision was
extremely close: they are all exceptional examples
of the breed.
Generally fronts were very good with correct
angulation and good depth of brisket. There is a
range of types. There is an issue with some feet…
a few are too flat and some are hare footed. Coats
are generally very good and there are some very
attractive heads albeit that there are a few light
eyes. Some dogs looked fabulous standing but
were somewhat disappointing on the move and
paid the price. All the exhibitors made a good job
of free standing their dogs BUT there is this
dreadful practice emerging in the exhibition of
Dalmatians, whereby the handler stacks the dog
so that their fronts are pushed forward and top
lines are sloping down at the rear. This spoils the
dogs’ top line and causes over angulation of the
rear quarters…it looks dreadful and most
untypical and can affect the final award. Another
issue, again seen all over the world, is the ‘race’
around the ring at speed. A steady pace shows all
that needs to be seen!
I left with memories that I will never forget; the
lovely dogs I saw, and the friendliness of the
exhibitors.
Thank you,
Christina Pickup

SPECIAL VETERAN SWEEPSTAKES
10 YEARS AND OVER
1. Beeby’s Ch. Varewell Wind Song. Attractive
eleven year old bitch who did not look her
age. Lovely head and expression. Really
enjoying her day out as she moved around
the ring with drive and keeping a nice level
top line. I was unaware that this bitch was
from the same kennel as the BIS until I read
my catalogue.
2. Donald’s Gr. Ch. Sprintaway Rubica Red. Another eleven year old, again in excellent condition, liver spotted, of good colour, little larger than 1, but moved well. Just preferred 1.
BABY PUPPY DOG
1. John’s Brewen Bomb Voyage. Well
constructed liver spotted puppy who shows
huge promise. Attractive head and neck,
good outline and topline for one so young.
Will do well.
2. Darling’s Paceaway Luck Dragon Another
very promising, nicely decorated liver
spotted puppy, good front and rear, nice
mover.
3. Pickles’ Zamashom Kings Legacy. Nice black spotted puppy, bit heavier marked than other BPD’s. Lovely head, dark ears and eyes. Good bone. Nice feet. At the ‘in between’ stage of development.
MINOR PUPPY DOG
1. Outlook Kennels Outlook Tuireann Molan. Well grown six month old youngster, well off for bone and plenty of substance. Lovely head and expression. Quite mature and although he stood alone - a very worthy winner. Should do well in the ring
PUPPY DOG
1. Darling‘s Paceaway Give Me More. This pup
had a lovely head, attractive markings and a
deep brisket. His overall conformation is well
developed and he moved the truest in his
class with good reach and drive. A great
future ahead! Best Puppy in Show
2. Bennett’s Lotadotz Dropsov Jupiter. A most
promising puppy, good outline, nice feet and
moved well but preferred 1 in this class.
3. Gough & Chandler’s Ch. Paceaway Top Gun. Good make and shape, deepest pigmentation, another very promising pup - not as mature as 1 & 2.
JUNIOR DOG
1. Gough & Chandler’s Paceaway Ticket
Master. Lovely youngster, attractive head
and pleasing expression. Good front.
Lovely outline standing with good level
topline, moved with good reach and drive.
2. Grant & Watt’s Krystaway Taittinger.
Another l/s again well developed and moved
well across the ring with drive. Still immature,
has quite a bit of tuck up and a little longer in
the loin than 1. Close decision between 1 &
2
3. Dyers’ Ch. Paceaway Flash Gordon. Marginally taller than 2 but none the less balanced. Moved well. Needs time to mature
INTERMEDIATE DOG
1. Clarkes’ Ch. Paceaway Skys The Limit. A
very well put together dog, with lovely
outline and who moved effectively and
efficiently covering the ground with ease.
Nice deep chest with plenty of heart room
and good tuck up. Nicely marked. Good tail
set.
2. Bower’s Ch. Starswept Siriusly On Fire.
Another very nice male I liked a lot, good
markings, pleasant head and expression,
another good mover. Pushed hard for 1st
place - just preferred 1.
3. Allcock & Marshall’s Ch. Pampard Privileged
Position. Slightly heavier black spotted, nice
dark eyes and good pigmentation. Nice turn
of stifle, good mover.
P a g e 1 6 D a l l y D i g e s t
AUSTRALIAN BRED DOG. A lovely quality class
with some tough decisions
1. Donald’s Sup Ch. Sprintaway Chief Cherokee.
Lovely masculine dog, black spotted, good
make and shape, nothing overdone. Standing
has good front and outline, well let down
hocks and plenty of bone. Good tail-
