Presidents Letter

Hi All.

Another year almost past, where does the time go?

The last six months has been extremely busy for our committee organising

next year’s National. The time and effort they have dedicated so far and

what they have achieved is amazing. Seriously, for a small group of people

they do a fantastic job. As President of the Club and on behalf of all our

members, Thank you.

So the best way our members and all Dally people can show their

appreciation for their effort is to come along and support our National and

events happening on that weekend.

Finally, as this is my last report as President, I personally would like to

thank all current and past committee members over the last six years for

their support to the club and myself.

Hope to see you all in June.

Regards, Ian.

Secretary's Report

Merry Christmas to you and your spotty family. Hasn’t this year flown by! There seems to be oodles of litters lately from breeders before the National in June. Lots of hunkering down by the committee to get the final details done next year and with everything coming together for a wonderful weekend. This Christmas for us, as a family we are having a simple Christmas valuing our time together after a harrowing year of serious illness. We are making a point at being grateful for what we have and spending time together, focusing on life and love. Life is too short, for without the love of family there to spend it with, it just isn’t the same. Hug your loved ones closer, place aside differences and relish what you have. Stay safe, have a wonderful and merry Christmas and a prosperous and Happy 2015. Cheers for now, Toni

Well this year has certainly flown by. A huge learning experience being involved in DAQ’s

committee this year, and I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it.

I am really looking forward to the Dalmatian National next year,

meeting a lot of new people and their spots.

In this issue you will find the last instalment of the interview with

Lisa Davis, the voice of Anita Radcliff in the animated

101 Dalmatian movie, on page 12.

We have our AGM coming up in February, if you would like to be

involved more in DAQ or nominate someone for committee, find out

more on pages 10 & 11.

Christmas is literally right around the corner and I am sure a few

of us still have some last minute shopping to do. Don’t forget your

spotted loved ones, find some gift ideas on page 5.

Don’t forget to get your membership renewals for DAQ!

Have a wonderful Christmas & a safe New Year.

Christmas Returns

Santa comes quietly long before dawn

While shops are still busy and lights are still on

While dinners are simmering and kitchens are warm

And children count presents they’ll open by morn.

He slips past the trees and the windows aglow

Through the gate to the back yard as icy winds blow to find

The pup that he brought last year chained up in the snow and

Kneeling he whispers, “Are you ready to go?”

There are too many stops like this one tonight

Before the beginning of his regular flight

He never leaves not a note or a footprint in sight

Just an unbuckled collar on a cold Christmas night.

DOGGY GIFT IDEAS!

Don’t forget your four legged friends this Christmas, why not have something under the tree for them this Christmas?

Is that current collar getting

old and frayed, how about

a brand new collar?

Would you like your dog to try

swimming, but afraid he will sink

instead of swim?

How about a doggy life jacket?

After that swim, how

about a spa session with

Aussie Pooch Mobile?

CONGRATULATIONS

CHERRY!!

D a l l y D i g e s t

Cherry was bred and adored by the late Chris Spencer

of Topspott kennels.

Cherry was trusted to us before her passing and we

were so proud to have had Chris with us at her last

speciality show in South Australia where Cherry won

her second of three BISS to date.

Andrew and I are so very proud to be owned by this

beautiful girl. . . to be continued.

Fraser is a 2yo Liver spot male, desexed, fully vaccinated and

micro chipped. He loves to play catch and chase balloons.

Fraser currently lives in the Dayboro area. He is looking for a

new family. He is ok with larger dogs. Cats and small dogs are

fun to chase when they run, so may not be appropriate.

He likes to be inside at times with the family, he sleeps outside

on an enclosed patio area. He loves cuddles and going for walks.

He is mostly obedient, (as all dallies are) but can be distracted on

recalls if something looks more interesting. He has been

socialised with other big dogs at times, but not regularly.

He is a little shy at first as he once had a bad experience with

another dog. Fraser is a smiler.

Dalmatians needing a family!

Smudge is a 6yo Black Spot Female, fully vaccinated, and

micro chipped. Smudge is a very lovely natured lady, who smiles

at you as you approach her. After extensive training by our

foster carer, Smudge now gets along with big dogs. Small dogs

are a potential no go zone. Cats may be ok, it would depend on

the cat. If it ran she would chase it. Smudge loves a cuddle and

a pat, she is learning to play ball. Smudge would be comfortable

sleeping either inside or out. We have had Smudge in foster care

for the last 4 months. She really needs her very own human to

take care of. She would make someone in need of a fur- kid very

happy. Smudge appears to get along with school age children,

although we don’t know if she has ever lived with children.

King is a fun loving 8month old boy, he loves

to play, is well socialised with other dogs, in a

home environment. It seems that a Dalmatian

puppy became too much for his owner, (we all

know how much energy they have and they need

amusing). King is in the hands of a foster carer.

King has also been

socialised with children

and has lived with a

family with 3 young

children up until a

week ago. King loves to

play and snuggle up

with his foster carers 10

week old kitten.

He loves cuddles and likes to be in contact with

the family. King does chase chickens, and if

horses ran he would chase them too. Being only 8

months old you may be able to train that out of

him.

Being only 8 months old, King is not yet

neutered. If you adopted

King, you would be

required to sign a contract,

stating you will neuter him

when he is 12 months old.

If required, we may be able

to help you obtain a

discount voucher through

the National Desexing

Network.

DAQ AGM for 2015

The AGM is to be held on the Tuesday 24th February 2015 at 7pm. Included below is a

nomination form. (Nominations close 3th February, 2015).

I would also like to remind members that as per clause 44 (a) of the constitution, postal

votes are to be offered by the club to those who meet the criteria.

Clause 44. The election of office bearers and members of the Management Committee

shall be by secret ballot:

(a) cast by members present at the Annual General Meeting and eligible to vote there

at, except that for Specialist Breed Clubs Postal Votes will be permitted for the

election of Office

Bearers, provided that:

1. the voting member resides in Queensland and at a distance of not less than 50kms

from the meeting venue; and

2. the vote is received by the Secretary no less than 24 hours prior to the date of the

meeting.

For those interested in postal voting, please contact the DAQ Secretary Toni Bale

(via email or mail) by the 1st February 2015 so ballot papers can be sent to you.

An Interview with

Lisa Davis,

the voice and model

for

101 Dalmatians’

Anita Radcliff.

Part 3 of 3.

Are you a dog lover like Anita?

I am a dog lover, but I have

never had a Dalmatian. I have three dogs now

and when somebody comes to the door and they

bark their heads off and somebody says to me,

“How many dogs do you have?”, I always say a

hundred and one (laughs). But I’ve never owned

a Dalmatian, because I have always been told by

breeders, since I have a small home and a small

back garden, and they tell me that they need

plenty of room to run and romp because they’re

very active dogs. Very sweet, clown-like

personalities. After all, they ride on fire trucks, you

know. When you see a fire truck, you’ll always see

a Dalmatian beside the fire truck. I don’t quite

know why that is, but they seem to go hand in

hand with the fire department.

What can you tell me about the recording

process? Did you read all of your lines alone or did

you ever record with other voice cast members?

I never worked with anybody else, other than the

director, helping me, telling me how they wanted

that particular line. But even though there were

many scenes with other people, they just cut

those in together— we never actually recorded

together.

I don’t believe they do it that way now. I think they

do it very quickly and with a lot of people at one

time, because I see pictures. You know, the

difference is, in a lot of the animated movies

today, they use very, very big celebrity voices,

people like Robin Williams, he does a lot of voices.

They do a lot of voice work and they do it very

quickly. When we did 101 Dalmatians, I was on it

for four years, but now I think

they probably do it in about

4 to 6 weeks. And it’s not the

amount of time why they

didn’t combine us. It was just

a matter of doing one line at

a time and being called in

just to do one line.

What do you think it is about Cruella De Vil that

has made her one of Disney’s most beloved—or

most hated, depending on how you look at it—

villains?

Well, I think she is both loved and hated. I think she

really is one of the greatest villains, not only of

animated movies, but of all movies. She is loved

because, although she's bad, she's somewhat

humorous. I mean, she has a scene with me in the

beginning when she comes in and wants to buy

the puppies that haven't been born yet. And I ask

her if she’d like to have tea, and I offer her a

cupcake, and she puts her cigarette out in the

cupcake. She's horribly funny.

But definitely one of the most wicked characters

on the screen. I think the brilliance of Marc Davis,

who drew and animated Cruella; I don’t think

anybody could have done the voice like

Betty Lou Gerson. I’m so pleased that it was her,

and she brought so much life to Cruella, and she's

so wicked (laughs). She's a bad lady! You know,

she wants to skin all of those puppies, she's got 101

puppies that she's turning into fur coats—that’s

horrible when you think about it.

I have never in all my life worn fur and never will

and I think its because of Cruella De Vil. (laughs).

She horrifies me! And when the guys are getting

ready to skin the puppies, my heart is in my mouth

every time I see it, although I know that doesn't

happen to them, I always worry about it— it takes

me in every time I see it.
