PRECAUTIONS ONSUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINTSYSTEM
This supplemental restraint system sectioncontains important information concerning
the driver and passenger supplemental airbags. The supplemental restraint system airbags can help reduce impact force to thedriver and front passenger in certain frontalcollisions. The supplemental air bags aredesigned to supplement the crash protec-tion provided by the driver and front passen-ger seat belts and are not a substitute forthem. Seat belts should always be correctlyworn and the driver and front passenger
seated a suitable distance away from thesteering wheel and instrument panel. SeeSeat belts for instructions and precautionson seat belt usage later in this section.
The supplemental air bags operate onlywhen the ignition switch is in the ON orSTART position.
After turning the ignition key to thposition, the supplemental air baging light illuminates. The supplemair bag warning light will turn offabout 7 seconds if the system is otional.

WARNING
The supplemental air bags ordinarilywill not inflate in the event of a sideimpact, rear impact, roll over, orlower severity frontal collision. Al-ways wear your seat belts to helpreduce the risk or severity of injuryin various kinds of accidents.
The seat belts and the supplemental
air bags are most effective when youare sitting well back and upright inthe seat. Supplemental air bags in-flate with great force. If you are un-restrained, leaning forward, sittingsideways or out of position in anyway, you are at greater risk of injuryor death in a crash. You may alsoreceive serious or fatal injuries fromthe supplemental air bag if you areup against it when it inflates. Always
sit back against the seatback and as
far away as practical from the sing wheel or instrument paneways use the seat belts.
Keep hands on the outside osteering wheel. Placing them i
the steering wheel rim could incthe risk that they are injured whesupplemental air bag inflates.

Supplemental air bag system
The driver supplemental air bag is located inthe center of the steering wheel. The passen-ger supplemental air bag is located in the topright section of the instrument panel.
These systems are designed to meet optionalcertification requirements under U.S. regula-tions. They are also permitted in Canada. The
optional certification allows air bags to bedesigned to inflate somewhat less forcefullythan previously. However, all of the infor-
mation, cautions and warnings imanual still apply and must be follo
The supplemental air bag system is deto inflate in higher severity frontal collalthough it may inflate if the forces in a

The supplemental air bags, along with the useof the seat belts, helps to cushion the impactforce on the face and chest of the occupant. Itcan help save lives and reduce serious inju-
ries. However, an inflating supplemental airbag may cause facial abrasions or other inju-ries. Supplemental air bags do not providerestraint to the lower body.
Seat belts should be correctly worn and thedriver and passenger seated upright as faras practical away from the steering wheel orinstrument panel. The supplemental airbags inflate quickly in order to help protectthe front occupants. Because of this, the
force of the supplemental air bags inflatingcan increase the risk of injury if the occu-pant is too close to, or is against, thesupplemental air bag module during infla-tion.
The supplemental air bags deflate quicklyafter a collision.
The supplemental air bags operate onlywhen the ignition switch is in the ON orSTART position.
WARNING
Do not place any objects on thesteering wheel pad or on the instru-ment panel. Also, do not place anyobjects between any occupant and
the steering wheel or on the instru-ment panel. Such objects may be-come dangerous projectiles, andcause injury if the supplemental airbag inflates.
Right after inflation, several supple-mental air bag system componentswill be hot. Do not touch them; youmay severely burn yourself.
No unauthorized changes should be
made to any components or wiring ofthe supplemental air bag system. Thisis to prevent accidental inflation ofthe supplemental air bag or damageto the supplemental air bag system.
Do not make unauthorized changes toyour vehicles electrical system, sus-pension system or front end structure. This could affect proper operation ofthe supplemental air bag system.
Tampering with the supplementbag system may result in seriousonal injury. Tampering incchanges to the steering wheel aninstrument panel assembly, bying material over the steering w

Do not allow more than one personto use the same seat belt.
Never carry more people in the ve-hicle than there are seat belts.
Never allow anyone to ride in the cargoarea or in a slide-in camper or othertype cargo area cover while the vehicleis in motion. These areas do not con-tain seat belts. It is not designed forpassengers. They could be injured in
sudden braking or a collision. If the seat belt warning light glows
continuously while the ignition isturned ON with all doors closed andall seat belts fastened, it may indi-cate a malfunction in the system.Have the system checked by an au-thorized NISSAN dealer.
All seat belt assemblies includingretractors and attaching hardwareshould be inspected by an autho-rized NISSAN dealer after any colli-sion. NISSAN recommends that allseat belt assemblies in use during acollision be replaced unless the col-lision was minor and the belts showno damage and continue to operateproperly. Seat belt assemblies not inuse during a collision should also beinspected and replaced if either dam-
age or improper operation is noted.
All child restraints and attahardware should be inspectedany collision. Always follow thstraint manufacturers inspectistructions and replacement remendations. The child rest

CHILD SAFETY
Children need adults to help pthem. They need to be properstrained.
The proper restraint depends on the size. Generally, infants up to about and less than 20 pounds (9 kg) shoplaced in rear facing child restraintsfacing child restraints are available fodren who outgrow rear facing chstraints.

WARNING
Be sure to turn the passengersupplemental air bag ON/OFF switchOFF when using a rear facing childrestraint in the front passenger seatin models so equipped. If it is notOFF, the air bag may inflate in acollision. The force of the rapidlyinflating air bag could cause seriousinjury or kill the child in the childrestraint. See Passenger supple-mental air bag ON/OFF switch andlight earlier in this section.
In Crew Cab models, never install arear facing child restraint in the frontpassenger seat. An inflating supple-mental air bag could seriously injureor kill your child. A rear facing childrestraint must only be used in therear seat.
Do not install a child restraint in thejump seats (King Cab model). Theseseats are not suitable for child re-straint installation.
Infants and children need specialprotection. The vehicles seat beltsmay not fit them properly. The shoul-der belt may come too close to the-face or neck. The lap belt may notfitover their small hip bones. In an
accident, an improperly fitting seatbelt could cause serious or fatal in-jury. Always use appropriate childrestraints.
All U.S. states and Canadian provinces orterritories require the use of approved childrestraints for infants and small children. SeeChild restraints later in this section formore information.
In addition, there are many types of childrestraints available for larger children whichshould be used for maximum protection.
NISSAN recommends that all pre-teenchildren be restrained in the rear seat ifpossible. According to accident statis-tics, children are safer when properlyrestrained in the rear seat than in thefront seat.
This is especially important becauseyour vehicle has a supplemental re-straint system (Supplemental air bag
system) for the front passenger (Focautions, see Supplemental resystem earlier in this section). AlsPassenger air bag ON/OFF switclight earlier in this section.

shoulder belt without the booster seat.
WARNING
Never let a child stand or kneel on anyseat and do not allow a child in thecargo areas while the vehicle is mov-ing. The child could be seriously in-jured or killed in an accident or suddenstop.
PREGNANT WOMENNISSAN recommends that pregnant womenuse seat belts. The seat belt should be wornsnug, and always position the lap belt aslow as possible around the hips, not thewaist. Place the shoulder belt over yourshoulder and across your chest. Never runthe lap/shoulder belt over your abdominalarea. Contact your doctor for specific rec-

3. Position the lap belt portion low on thehips as shown.
4. Pull the shoulder belt portion toward theretractor to take up extra slack.
The front passenger seat belt has a cinch-ing mechanism for child restraint installa-tion. It is referred to as the automatic lockingmode.
When the cinching mechanism is activatedthe seat belt cannot be extracted again until
the seat belt tongue is detached from thebuckle and the seat belt is fully retracted.

PRECAUTIONS ON CHILDRESTRAINTS
WARNING
Infants and small children shouldalways be placed in an appropriatechild restraint while riding in the ve-hicle. Failure to use a child restraintcan result in serious injury or death.
Infants and small children shouldnever be carried on your lap. It is notpossible for even the strongest adult
to resist the forces of a severe acci-dent. The child could be crushedbetween the adult and parts of thevehicle. Also, do not put the sameseat belt around both your child andyourself.
In Crew Cab models, never install arear facing child restraint in the frontpassenger seat. An inflating supple-mental air bag could seriously injureor kill your child. A rear facing childrestraint must only be used in therear seat.
Never install a rear-facing child re-straint in the front seat of a modelequipped with a supplemental air
bag ON/OFF switch unless you firstturn OFF the air bag. An inflating airbag could seriously injure or killyour child. See Passenger supple-mental air bag ON/OFF switch andlight earlier in this section.
An improperly installed child re-straint could lead to serious injury ordeath in an accident.

restrained in an approved child restraintat all times while the vehicle is beingoperated.
WARNING
Do not install a child restraint in thejump seats (King Cab model). Theseseats are not suitable for child re-straint installation.
Improper use of a child restraint can
result in increased injuries for boththe infant or child and other occu-pants in the vehicle.
Follow all of the child restraintmanufacturers instructions for in-stallation and use. When purchasinga child restraint, be sure to selectone which will fit your child andvehicle. It may not be possible toproperly install some types of childrestraints in your vehicle.
If the child restraint is not anchoredproperly, the risk of a child beinginjured in a collision or a suddenstop greatly increases.
Adjustable seatbacks should be po-sitioned to fit the child restraint, but
as upright as possible. After attaching the child restraint,
test it before you place the child in it.Tilt it from side to side. Try to tug itforward and check to see if the beltholds the restraint in place. If therestraint is not secure, tighten thebelt as necessary or put the restraintin another seat and test it again.
For a front facing child restraint, ifthe seat position where it is installedhas a 3-point type lap/shoulder belt, check to make sure the shoulder beltdoes not go in front of the childsface or neck. If it does, put the shoul-der belt behind the child restraint.
