Three Types of Documentary

• A docusoap is a hybrid genre, it is observational. It is a long running documentary series which follows an individual or group of people. An example of this could be; The Family, Big Fat Gypsy Weddings. Docusoaps started in the 1990’s. This genre of documentary was popular because people liked that it was a real soap opera. Docusoaps follow a central protagonist, the means that the audience will begin to know the character.

• Reality TV is factual TV. It progressed between 1989 and 1999.This type of TV gives you useful information in the form of entertainment. This is a mix of authentic material with serious information and commercial content. They have a use of camcorder, observation, surveillance and commentary.

• A fly on the wall is when the camera is unseen or the people ignore it. Therefore the cameras record the events which are unrolled.Anexample of this would be Big Brother, as the cameras are hidden which makes the people in the house act as if they were not there.

Nick Broomfield

• Broomfield is a minimalistic documentary filmmaker, as he uses small groups of crew members and records the sound of each events alone. Broomfield usually appears in his documentaries by holding film and sound equipment. The self-reflexive style used by Broomfield is what he is most famous for. As the subject matter as well as the actual film making are to be seen as important as each other.

Stacey Duley

• Stacey Jaclyn Dooley (born 9 March 1987) is a British television presenter and investigative journalist. She rose to fame in 2009 after appearing in a number of BBC Three documentaries highlighting child labour issues in developing countries.

• Her target audience would typically be adults that look at the new generation since she always highlights serious issues in the world

• The main purpose of her documentaries from my opinion would typically be to inform and raise awareness for important matters in the world like war and drugs.
