INSIDE JOAN MIRÓ Thirty years after his death, Joan Miró has become an iconic figure in the art world. The more time passes, the more his work becomes universal, going beyond borders and genres. Thanks to the exceptional presence of Joan Punyet Miró, the artist’s grandson and administrator, as well as previously unseen archives and a privileged access to his work and his studio, we shall discover some of the painter’s less familiar facets: the private Miró, who could «by day be a treasure, and by night, a monster»; Miró the provocateur, as well as the Miró who was sensitive to the distress of his compatriots. MARTIN BUBER Itinerary of a humanist After Freud and Einstein, Martin Buber (1878-1965) was one of the best-known Jews of the 20th century, an era he traversed as one of its principal actors and witnesses. The emergence of Zionism, Nazism and the creation of the state of Israel were all major concerns and subjects of profound and influential reflection. Concerning the Arab-Jews problem, he was the first to combat for a bi-national state and wrote extensively on the question of respect among Near East peoples, at the same time warning of the risks that were to be run if this were not the case. His thoughts on the issue are all the more forceful in contemporary times as, to a degree, they were premonitory and ground-breaking. 2015 was Buber’s year, not only for the 50th anniversary of his death, but also because we need him more than ever; his thoughts, and let us even say his message. It is time to explore the paths taken by Martin Buber and this film is a welcome opportunity to do so.

Richard Nixon spared no effort to ensure his re-election on the 7th November: spying on his opponents from the Democratic party, wiretapping, stealing documents, using slush funds. A team of 50 people were recruited from within the White House to bring down the opposite camp and rig the election.Presidential lies, misuse of the government structure… The truth slowly came to light, right up to his resignation in August 1974. The most famous scandal invol-ving corruption at the highest level of the leading world power, the lie that forced an American president to resign.

SLAVERY ROUTES. A history of the slave trade from the 7th century to the present dayBetween the 7th and 20th centuries, some 25 to 40 million people were reduced to slavery. This persistent and widespread enslavement process is exceptional for the sheer geographic scale involved, for the permanence of the Asian, Atlantic and African trade systems which brought about a veritable industry in human commerce, and for the ideological, legal and religious practices which served to justify it. How was it possible to enslave almost 40 million men over nearly 13 centuries? How was it possible to accept the fact that people were reduced to the state of simple merchandise, to be bought, sold, exchanged or bequeathed like common goods and chattels? It is time to present a transversal, global and inter-regional investigation into what remains the most comprehensive exercise in dehumanization ever orchestrated: the slave trade in black Africans from the 7th to the 20th century.

Two splendid exhibition halls, the Petit and Grand Palais, were built for the occasion, along with three railroad stations: Gare d’Orsay, Gare de Lyon, and Gare des Invalides. Paris became a showcase city, displaying the latest technical and scientific inventions, and also boasting avant-garde art galleries, lively cabarets, the ultimate in high fashion, and the Parisiennes. The myth of “La Belle Epoque” reigned supreme. Between colorized archives and photographic archives, the movie will also showcase a gallery of characters from the time by using animation. THE JEWS OF THE FORBIDDEN ZONEIn July 1940, the German authorities annexed an area of France which extended from the Somme to the Swiss frontier in order to create “restricted zones” to serve the Nazis. Hundreds of foreign Jews were sent from the Paris region into the Ardennes to work there as farm laborers. Lured by the promise of a better life, these men and women discovered a pitiless world: the groups of foreign workers, so called GTE. Subjugated and oppressed, entire families were worked to exhaustion, laboring in the fields over a number of years, before eventually being deported. Even today, the story of the Jews of the Ardennes remains largely unknown.

THE FRENCH CAMPS How many of us now know that between November 1938 and May 1946, 600 thousand people suffered confinement through simple administrative decision? None of these people had committed a crime or any offence, the only reason that made them prisoners was the fact that they supposedly represented potential danger to the State or to society. They were many to populate French camps: Spanish Republicans, Germans and Austrians, French Communists, to whom were soon added foreign Jews or Gypsies, and later, at the Liberation, in majority suspected collaborationists but also, which is of less common knowledge, black market traffickers and also German civilians.

WORLD WAR I: WE WON’T GO! This film addresses the Great War through the words and acts of those who refused it, whether soldiers on the front lines or conscientious objectors, pacifists or revolutionaries. In the historiography of the Great War, military disobedience, mutiny and engaged pacifism have become a silent myth. For a long time, these acts of refusal were taboo and largely unknown and they carry a strong symbolic weight. They are the first manifestations of what will later become conscientious objection and that will spread during the following wars, in particular during the Vietnam and Algerian wars. From the truce of Christmas 1914 up to the mutiny of Kiel in October of 1918, men have rebelled against the war. A hundred years later in Verdun, the ground still bears traces of the war. Out of this symbolic and forever marked soil, rise the voices of those who have refused.

THE LIVING UNKNOWN SOLDIERThroughout the inter-war period, one man fascinated the French public. His photo was frequently seen on the front page of the papers. He inspired writers, playwrights and filmmakers. His name was Anthelme Mangin. His nickname was ‘The living unknown soldier’. He was an amnesiac soldier who returned to France from a German prison camp in 1918. As soon as his existence became known, he was saddled with the pain of the three hun-dred thousand families of soldiers who never returned, who were unable to grieve. Dozens of women, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters and children claimed him as their missing loved one, despite his physical appearance, age and education.

THE SHEIKH’S STUD FARM The crown prince of Dubai’s livestock consists of four thousand thoroughbred horses. The emir spends lavish amounts in order to shine at the races. This is the portrait of a man who is mad about horses, and who has the money to indulge his passion. Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum, the crown prince of Dubai, has only one passion: thoroughbreds. For the past twenty or so years, he has been investing his fortune in the most beautiful endurance racehorses. He is capable of splashing out up to ten million euros for a yearling, and he dominates the world market. His stock is the largest in the world, and is made up of around four thousand thoroughbreds, reared and trained in the most notable European stud farms, or on his personal property, at the Godolphin stables, in the middle of the desert.

Outclassed by the two super champions Jacques Anquetil and Eddy Merckx, both quintuple victors of the Tour de France, Raymond Poulidor will at least find a little consolation in the fact that these setbacks only served to strengthen his aura. THE DEEPEST MAN ON EARTHThe Austrian freediver, Herbert Nitsch, defies the depths of the ocean and goes from one amazing feat to another. He has held the world record for freediving since 2007: - 214 meters! The British director Alexander Abela, who is also a freediver, shadowed him for many months while he trained, and also during international competitions in Greece and the Bahamas. In order to reach these extreme depths, Herbert draws on the breathing techniques of marine mammals and forces himself to do hours of training every day. On the occasion of D-Day commemoration ceremonies, the Queen of England paid an official state visit in France and attended a banquet as the guest of honor at the official residence of the President of the Republic of France, the Elysée Palace. This documentary film describes the event from the kitchens of power, the true vitrine of French gastronomy which has been on Unesco’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2010. We followed the work of the teams of the famous chef Guillaume Gomez, from the conception of the menus to the selection of products with the best French producers as well as the installation of the reception hall. Global warming and the harmful effects of tourism have amplified the phenomenon of acqua alta (sudden rise in sea level), rendering the traditional responses of inhabitants obsolete. It is urgent to act today. Projects conceived in laboratories across the globe are joining forces to save the city. These include Ramses, a 3D mode-lization of the lagoon produced using lasers, which analyzes rises in water level; and MOSE, a series of movable dams costing over 4 billion euros, intended to block the sea in case of acqua alta. The film will take us on this extraordinary journey, the technological and scientific struggle for the survival of Venice, a survival that has been in doubt from its very construction.

March 1985, the Rainbow Warrior, the flagship of the Greenpeace fleet, was docked in Auckland, New Zealand. The environmenta-lists were organizing a large-scale act of protest in order to put a stop to French nuclear testing in Polynesia. On 10th July 1985, a dozen DGSE (French Directorate General of External Security) agents were stationed in New Zealand to launch an operation to sink the Rainbow Warrior at all costs. There was a huge scandal, “an act of state-backed terrorism, an act of war”, declared the New Zealand minister, Geoffrey Palmer. Mitterrand, who had known about the operation from the very beginning, attempted to defuse the crisis. An extensive and pernicious campaign kicked off.

Close friend, henchman and covert right-hand man of Mitterrand in negotiations with the communists on the one hand and the extreme right on the other, he is one of the last living members of the intimate circle of the former President of the French Republic and one of the last witnesses to the 1981 election victory.

THE PRINCE DE BROGLIE On the 24th of December, Christmas Eve, in 1976, at around 9.15 in the morning, Prince Jean de Broglie, an MP in the Eure depart-ment and a cousin by marriage to the President of the Republic, Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, was assassinated in the street, shot three times in the head. This film re-examines an affair which hit contemporary headlines, by taking into account certain elements which were not exploited during the investigation, gathered to-gether over more than 30 years by French and foreign journalists. It will highlight the involvement of politicians and police in the Prince’s assassination, far beyond any version of the facts that the government of the time was willing to offer.

THE LEGEND OF JUDGE BORRELDuring the night of 18th to 19th of November 1995, the body of Bernard Borrel, a French magistrate, was discovered at the foot of a cliff in Djibouti. This extremely sensitive case, still under investigation, regularly attracts media attention due to yet another revelation or libel suit. Now it seems to have become, above all, a judicial deadlock. This film focuses on reconstructing the context in which the events unfolded, unveiling the dramatic events which overwhelmed the Borrel family, from their life in France to their arrival on Djibouti soil. A stay which should have been merely an interlude in the professional career of the couple who were both French magistrates.

If there are so few Protestants nowadays, it is because they have been persecuted and massacred relentlessly until 19th century.
