INTRODUCTION
Section 142(d) of Part D of the Vocational Education Amendmentsof 1968 provides Federal funding for State-administered ExemplaryProjects in Vocational Education. These Federal funds can beused by each State for making grants to or contracts with localeducational agencies, colleges and universities, and other publicand private agencies and organizations for the development, esta-blishment, and operation of exemplary and innovative occupationaleducation programs or projects designed to serve as models foruse in vocational education programs.
The funds are allocated to the States on the basis of a complexformula prescribed in Public Law 90-576. In Fiscal Year 1975,for example, the State of Alaska received $104,805, while theState of California received $355,974. The total funding appro-priated for State use under Section 142(d) of Part D amount to$6.5 million in Fiscal Year 1970, and $8 million in each succeedingfiscal year.
The purpose of this publication is to provide a listing of theprojects supported in each State through grants and contractsfunded by the States under Section 142(d) of Part D of the Voca-tional Education Amendments of 1968. The listing, which isarranged alphabetically by States, shows the title of each project, the name of the grantee or contractor conducting the project, and the amount of Section 142(d) funding obligated for the project. For any given State, the total amount of funds obligated in aparticular fiscal year may or may not be equal to the State'sallotment for that fiscal year. The reason for such differencebetween funds allotted and funds obligated is that Public Law90-576 permits a State to obligate Section 142(d) fundi duringthe fiscal year in which the funds are appropriated and duringthe succeeding fiscal year. Thus, a State could carry FiscalYear 1971 funds over and obligate them during Fiscal Year 1972,could carry Fiscal Year 1972 funds over and obligate them inFiscal Year 1973, etc.
This listing of State - administered Exemplary Projects was compiledon the basis of information supplied to the U.S. Office pf Educa-tion by each State through the U.S.O.E. Regional Offices. Personswishing to secure in-depth information about a particular projectshould correspond with the State Director of Vocational Educationin the State concerned.
This publication has been prepared by Larry Braaten, Chief, Demon-stration Branch, Annette Miller, Program Assistant, DemonstrationBranch, and typed by Diane Nuckolls, Demonstration Branch.
