Governor’s Message

When asked about why I joined Altrusa, I always return to the Principles of Altrusa. Number 1: Altrusa is a builder of women(men). Altrusa is a builder of LEADERS. I know that I applied the skills I developed in Altrusa throughout my business career! Every time I meet with Altrusans, I always bring home new information… That is what makes us “Light the way for Leaders in Service!”We are going to a conference center on a college campus, so it’s BACK TO SCHOOL – BACK TO BASICS! This is a chance to review or refresh your marketable non-profit skills.

Based on your evaluations from past conferences, we updated the format. There will be many ‘courses’ offered. Some will be repeated – others will not. Your curriculum may include sessions in Leadership, Membership, Service, Communications, Finance, Physical Therapy, with a few Electives thrown in for good measure!

• Polish your presentations! • Make strategic plans! • Visit the Computer Help desk with specific problems. • What does a good budget look like? • What else can we do to raise funds? How do you ask Altrusa

Foundation for $$ support? • How do other clubs orient new members? • Learn how you can contribute in a large (or small) way to

International Projects: Days for Girls and Altrusa SOS. • What’s in your club PIPELINE? • And so much more….

Be sure to review the schedule, confer with your fellow club members so that you can split up and gather all the goods this conference has to offer! And since there are at least 4 topics competing for your attention, make sure that you’re bringing club members with you!!!

Since the conference center is not in the center of town, we negotiated a terrific package that includes five meals! Be sure to send in your check EARLY (postmarked by March 15) for a $10 savings on registration.

The District One Board, Committee Chairs and Past Governors are looking forward to seeing you all at Conference in Beverly, MA. Join me in…

Silent Auction FUNdrasier for the International Foundation

The District One fundraiser at Conference this year will be a silent auction. We're hoping each club will bring an item (or items) to auction off. There will also be a 50-50 raffle. All the money raised goes to support the great work our International Foundation does. If you have any questions email or

call Marie Pike.

And come prepared to "win" that special something that you want to take home. We don't make lots of money for Foundation unless everyone is

bidding big & bidding often!

The Foundation Silent Auction will continue on Friday and finish Saturday morning.

THE FUNdraising fair will be held right after lunch on Friday (see preliminary schedule). So make note and plan according. Your club is encouraged to bring items to sell to other Altrusa members. In past years Raffle baskets, 50/50 raffles, hand crafted items, cookies, candy etc have been popular items.

Two - All District Service Projects

There will be two opportunities to participate in hands on Service Project.

SOS - Support our Soldiers

There will be time at Conference to send a note to our soldiers where ever they may be. We will have plenty of cards all prepared for the SOLDIERS to receive! You will only have to send YOUR message to a SOLDIER. The cards will just say “THANK YOU” and you just add your message. Be sure to take time out of the busy Conference agenda to come and write something to them! After Conference all cards will be delivered and then mailed to “your” soldier.

COME ONE – COME ALL - Stop in Friday afternoon

All Conference Literacy Session Rebecca Lampert-Egan

Rebecca Lampert-Egan is a life long reader and writer who cannot help but share her genuine enthusiasm and humble respect for words. Her life has always been full of children and with them she has discovered the joy, the power, and the possibilities that children’s illustrated books offer. They are so much more than the words and the pictures that tell the story.

Days for Girls - Hands On Service Project Carol Norrish will lead us in hands on service. Members will pack bags. Carol will explain the components of the bags. Carol will give a demo in how some of the components are constructed. Carol is hoping to show how the hands on workshops are organized in Days for Girls.

“There is always something for sewers and non sewers to do at the Days for Girls work events! We enjoy a cup of coffee and a muffin in the morning along with new and old friendships! Everyone is always welcome to come to a DFG event. We need volunteers to rip fabric, fold liners, apply snaps, thread ribbon through the bags, iron, and yes, sew! As you can see, there is something for everyone. It is really amazing to see all the packed kits and know that they are going to areas where girls are so appreciative because now they can stay in school. Did you know that the kits are shared among the women in the family? Come see what this is all about! I guarantee you will enjoy the activity!” Stop in on Saturday afternoon and lend a hand.

For more information on Days for Girls, look up their website. www.DaysforGirls.org.
