Ilkley lends itself to an array of walks and cycle routes. It has everything you need to get out and get active around the area.

There are a number of short accessible walks on offer. These include walks onto the Moor, along the River Wharfe and through Middleton Woods. You can also learn about the town’s heritage by following the blue plaque trail.

Nearby Burley in Wharfedale is an official ‘Walkers are Welcome’ town and encourages visitors who like to explore

the countryside. Alternatively there are a number of long distance walks such as the Dales Way which follows the Wharfe Valley on towards Bowness on Windermere, and the Dales High Way which takes another scenic route north to Appleby in Westmoreland. CYCLINGWhether it be a gentle family bike ride or a bumpy adrenalin packed adventure, Ilkley offers something for all levels of cyclist.Ilkley has some fantastic and challenging on and off road cycling routes and is also home to the largest cycling club in the country. Ilkley Cycling Club has over 1000 members, and was an active part of the Tour de France in 2014.

Whether you’re looking for a quick pit stop or a good bike shop, Ilkley welcomes cyclists. Look out for The Commute Café and Workshop and Wheelbase cycle shop in the town centre. For a stop with a view you can’t beat the Cow and Calf Rocks.

ILKLEY MOORFamous for the Yorkshire anthem On Ilkla Moor Baht ‘at there’s lots more to discover on Ilkley Moor.

The moor is well known for its archaeology with its mysterious carved rocks, known as cup and ring stones, thought to date from the early Bronze Age. High on Ilkley Moor the Cow and Calf Rocks are a local landmark and spectacular viewpoint. Also look out for The Beck Stone, part of the Stanza Stones trail, a sequence of poems created by Simon Armitage.

ALL SAINTS PARISH CHURCHThe church is located on the site of the former Roman Fort of Olicana, and is mentioned in the Domesday book of 1086. A newly installed glass passageway displays an illustrated timeline of the church’s role in the history of the town.

MANOR HOUSEDating back to the mid 14th century, the Manor House is one of the oldest surviving buildings in West Yorkshire. You’ll find events and exhibitions are held throughout the year for all the family.

WHITE WELLSWhite Wells was instrumental in establishing Ilkley as a spa town, where people could come to “take the waters”, believing all manner of aliments could be cured. Open when the flag is flying, visitors today can enjoy the views with a cup of tea, although you can still take the plunge on New Years Day!

Whatever the time of day, Ilkley has an excellent choice of cafes, bars and restaurants.

Top of the list should be a trip to Yorkshire institution Betty’s Café Tea Rooms. Famous for its Fat Rascals and Afternoon Tea, it is the perfect place to relax after a few days of sightseeing. Ilkley has a wonderful selection of cafes and coffee shops, so it’s definitely worth trying a few before you decide on your favourite! If you prefer something stronger don’t miss the Fuggle and Golding tap house and bottle shop, where you can fill a growler to enjoy your favourites at home too.

With the lights sparkling in the trees, Ilkley is a special place to spend the

evening. Enjoy a glass of wine with tapas at Martinez Wine Bar, or a charcuterie board at Friends of Ham. For the perfect Gin and Tonic make a beeline for the Gin Lounge.
