Description of PositionUnder the direction of the Vice President of AcademicServices, the Director of Learning Resources will beresponsible for the planning, development, implementationand evaluation of the colleges library and tutorial services
for the District. The Director of Learning Resources needsto function as a reference/academic librarian, supervises:staff, curriculum, facilities, budget and related tasks for theassigned programs.
Representative Duties Directs all Learning Resources, the Tutorial Center and
Computer Commons programs and services, includingfacility use, individualized instruction, web site develop-
ment and maintenance and other designated programsand services.
Coordinate the operation of the Learning ResourceCenters for the District and coordinates activities of
other departments located in the Centers. Provide leadership in developing access to electronic
information resources and multimedia products, collec-
tion development, and otherwise working with faculty toaugment materials and informational services thatsupport the teaching/learning functions of the District.
Coordinates the introduction of technological advances
in information access into the Learning ResourcesCenter and supervises ongoing programs to instructfaculty, staff, and students in such use.
Supervise, counsel, discipline and annually evaluate theperformance of direct subordinates.
Ensures that the Learning Resources Centers practicesare consistent with District policy procedures, local, state
and federal laws, and other contracts or agreements.
Serves in additional librarian capacities (reference andinstruction) as needed.
Recommends the establishment of academic and classi-
fied positions in assigned areas of responsibility, partici-
pates in the development of position descriptions, jobannouncements, search and selection processes.
Coordinates and provides leadership in curriculumdevelopment and program planning and review.
Submits recommended curriculum and catalog changesto the Office of Academic Services.
Attends College Curriculum committee as a non-votingmember.
Assesses enrollment data and developing the scheduleof courses and submits all scheduling information forcourses in a timely and accurate manner, complying with
District requirements. Works with faculty in developing the schedule of courses

Assists in planning the District budget by organizing andsubmitting the Learning Resources and Tutorial Centers
budgets to the Office of Academic Services. Manages all budgets within the areas of responsibility
and oversees the maintenance of budget records and
files, supervises and approves all appropriate expendi-
tures. Attends meetings of specific instruction groups and
serves on college committees and task forces as required
or assigned. Acts as a resource to faculty on matters related to
improvement of teaching, learning and librarianship. Perform related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to:
Masters degree in Library Science or Library and
Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from a graduateprogram accredited by the American Library Associationor the equivalent; and
Three years of supervisory experience in reference and
instructional activities in an academic setting, preferablyat an institution of higher education; and
Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the
diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, disability,and ethnic backgrounds of community collegestudents.
Working Condition
Environment
Indoor environment. Frequent contact in person and on the telephone with
management, supervisory, academic and classified staff.Physical Abilities
Ability to sit for long periods.
Ability to operate a computer keyboard and calculator. Ability to read normal and fine print. Ability to provide information in person or on the
telephone.
Ability to understand voices over the telephone and inperson.
Ability to remember key information and concentrate
for long periods of time.
Ability to lift, carry and/or move objects weighing up to10 pounds.
Conditions of Employment
Annual salary is $82,800 to $116,508 (ManagementSalary Schedule, Range 26). Salary placement is to becommensurate with education and experience.
Districtpaid medical/dental/vision insurance programfor employee and dependents.
Retirement plan.
Employee life insurance ($100,000) is provided.
