We will commemorate this day on Wednesday, 11th November at 8.30am with a special service of prayer, reflection and silence. Parents as always are invited to join us on this special occasion on top court.

O God, our ruler and guide, In whose hands are the destines of this and

every nation, We give you thanks for the freedoms we enjoy

in this land and for those who laid down their lives to

defend them: we pray that we and all the people of

Australia, Gratefully remembering their courage and

their sacrifice, may have the grace to live in a spirit of justice,

of generosity, and of peace; Amen

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S

SUMMER READING CHALLENGE

These summer holidays, Executive Director Greg Whitby is encouraging all students to read, read, read! Students can read anything they like to enter the Executive Director's Summer Reading Challenge, whether it’s a comic, play, a piece of poetry, book, e-book or graphic novel. This year we have made the challenge easier to enter by removing the minimum number of books to read and providing students with more chances of winning a prize. Entry is simple! Students just need to read something they enjoy and tell us in 50 words or less why they loved it. Enter online at http://parra.catholic.edu.au/summer-reading-challenge. The more material a student reads, the more times they can enter the reading challenge and the more chances they have of winning one of four iPad minis.

The Baulkham Hills Brumbies

Congratulations to the Baulkham Hills Brumbies on

a successful football season. The Brumbies were

awarded the 2015 Club Championship Trophy from

the Parramatta District Convent Rugby League

Association again this year. This is the second

year in a row that the club has been awarded the

Club Championship. Well done Brumbies!

Congratulations to Logan Ragno (4W) and Ben

Hope (3B). Both boys were acknowledged by

visitors to our Fun Fair for being honest members

of our community when they found money on the

ground and handed it in so that it could be

claimed by its owner. Well done boys we are very

proud of you.

Social Skill: Being Polite and Courteous—Weeks 5 & 6

Many of us are courteous and polite

Even with strangers we are meeting.

But being nice has much more might

As it lasts longer than just a greeting.

Thank you, you’re welcome and please

Are words most are taught as a child

Being a really nice person with ease

Takes a very long, long while. (Jean Garney)

We are working together to display our manners by being polite and courteous on a daily basis. We treat

people equally and we try to make everyone feel special and happy at our school.

St Bernadette’s School News 4

On Sunday 8th November, members of St Bernadette’s

School Choir will once again be participating in a wonderful concert at Sydney Town Hall.

Celebration Sing Out is an annual concert now in its 23rd year which brings together primary and secondary

school children and adult singers to perform great choral repertoire and raise funds for the support and

treatment of sick children.

The concerts have raised over $350,000 to support medical services in regional NSW, The Stewart House

Preventorium and several different units of the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

This year 14 primary schools, 11 secondary schools and 200 adult singers from around NSW come together

with an 80 piece symphony orchestra to perform with the magnificent Town Hall Organ choruses from

Handel’s Messiah, the Berlioz Te Deum, Boublil and Schonberg’s Les Miserables and Parry’s Jerusalem.

The primary choir will perform Blue Tail Fly, Walking in the Air, Swim Little Fishy, Streets of London/Feed

the Birds, Riversong, Take These Wings, The Animal’s Lullaby and Oye. They will join with the senior choir

and orchestra for the Les Miserables Medley and

Jerusalem,

All proceeds from the concert this year go to the

Music Therapy Unit, The Children’s Hospital at

Westmead Hospital.
