I would like to congratulate you on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan entreating Allah, the
Almighty, to make it a month of blessings and benediction for our beloved Kuwait, the Arab and
Islamic nations.
On this blessed occasion, I would like to underline a number of significant issues on top of which
the achievement fulfilled in the first quarter of the financial year 2010/2011. This achievement is
epitomized in the approval of the Petroleum Higher Council on the two projects of building the new
refinery and the clean fuel.
Definitely, these two projects highlight your keenness on accomplishing huge projects which have
dominative impacts on the oil sector particularly they are of much concern by the country’s officials
in general and the oil sector’s personnel in particular.
In the midst of talking about the achievements fulfilled by the oil sector and the big role which Kuwait
Petroleum Corporation (KPC) undertakes in the national economy, it is important to point out to the
special concern which HE Oil Minister, Chairman of board of directors of KPC has paid to provide
job vacancies for the Kuwaiti new graduates and his close follow-up to finalize the procedures of
employing them whether through direct or indirect employment or through the contractor.
Indisputably, the international demand on the various kinds of energy is incessantly growing.
However, we need to increase our productivity to cope with this growth; the matter requires providing
efficient and experienced personnel besides high technologies. This consequently places us in front
of huge challenges to develop the oil sector particularly under the increasing need to depend on the
new technologies which are available in the international oil companies that seek for an appropriate
investment atmosphere.
Furthermore, we believe in the principle of monitoring performance and connecting it to incentives;
however, we seek to apply it in order to support the constructive work in the oil sector and provide
equal opportunities for all to create and develop.
Accordingly, we have created two new sectors, to achieve excellence; Research and Development
Sector and Security and Safety Sector hoping them to help us fight our way in the future. We have
also re-structured Internal Audit Sector to fulfill its duties independently as a safety valve to protect
the oil sector from any manipulations or violations.
Finally, I hope all of you to succeed in achieving your goals in this holy month which is full of
blessings and felicities.

Dear brothers and sisters,
Allah, the Almighty, has favored some days, nights and months.
He has instructed Muslim people to fast the holy month of Rama-
dan wholly; in addition, He has made the recompense of one of
its last ten nights, in terms of worship, better that one thousand
months. Ramadan is a lucrative season for atoning sins and mis-
takes. It is a month of gifts which Allah, the Almighty, grants to
Muslims. Muhammad, the prophet, Peace Be Upon Him (PBUH)
said, “Always do good deeds throughout your lifetime, and avail
of the gifts which Allah grants you, the Almighty, because these
gifts are some of His mercies which He grants His preferable
Muslim people. Moreover, entreat Allah to hide your defects and
assure your frights.”
It is a magnificent opportunity that should be taken before it be-
comes too late. However, we beseech Allah to grant us the good
of everything in our life and after death. The prophet (PBUH) said
that good and prosperity become available since the first night of
this holy month.
The prophet said, when the first night of Ramadan approaches,
Allah shackles the devils and demons and all doors of the Hell
are shut down; in addition, all doors of the Paradise are opened,
and then caller says, “Oh! The one who is aspiring good deeds
approach more. Oh! The one who is seeking devilish deeds go
far away. Moreover, Allah frees people from the Hell every night
during this holy month. Accordingly, all Muslim people should be
happy with the advent of this blessed month.
The prophet Muhammad (PBUH) told his companions that Rama-
dan is blessed month in which Allah, the Almighty, has instructed
Muslims to fast. Doors of Hell are all closed and doors of Paradise
are all opened during this holy month. Moreover, demons are en-
chained. He said, “This holy month has a night is better than one
thousand months; however, the Muslim who is deprived its good
loses much.
The prophet said also, “Allah, the Almighty frees from Hell some
of Muslims everyday at the breakfast in Ramadan.”
He further said that Allah, the Almighty, has allotted a door in
Paradise called “Al-Rayyan” through which only Muslims who
fast can enter. In addition, the door is closed once they enter.
Imam Ibn Al-Qaiyam, may Allah be pleased with him, said Allah,
the Almighty, punishes the one who has been granted a chance
or an outlet for good deeds but unfortunately fails to avail of it;
thus, He – Allah – doesn’t enable that one to control his will as a
punishment.
Moreover, Allah is the only one who rewards Muslims for fasting.

felicity with it”

Ramadan... month of benedictions, blessings
11In This Issue
The prophet was quoted as saying that Allah, the Almighty, says that all
deeds which man does are considered for his/her benefit; the good deed is
doubled ten times until 700 times; except fasting is for the sake of Allah
as the Muslim person gives up his food and drink as well as his lust with
wife for Allah; thus He rewards the Muslim for this. Moreover, the odor
of the Muslim, for Allah, is better than the fragrance of musk; additional-
ly, the Muslim who fasts has two joys; one of them when he has breakfast
and the second when meets Allah. Fasting is secret habit; consequently,
this secret is more truthful than any other thing man does in his life.
Imam Nawawi, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “Religious scholars
say the joy of meeting Allah is represented in the good reward that Al-
lah grants to the Muslim who fasts as well as remembering the blessing
which Allah grants him; whereas the joy completed when having break-
fast is due to his success to complete his worship without spoiling it; thus,
he wishes to receive the reward of this holy worship.
It is worth mentioning that the wisdom behind legislating fasting in Ra-
madan is to root piety.
Ali Bin Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “Piety is to fear
the punishment of the Great Allah, comply with what He allows and what
He bans. Be satisfied with the little and prepare yourself for the hereaf-
ter.”
Also, fasting has been legislated to let the rich taste or experience the
hunger; and accordingly he will not forget the hungry people.
One of the prophet’s companions asked, “If I have testified that there is
no god but Allah, performed my five prayers, fasted the holy month of
Ramadan, done my Zakat – Alms, What will be the reward? The prophet
said that the one who died after doing what is mentioned above will re-
ceive the same reward of martyrs and veracious people in Paradise.
Oh, Muslim people, entreat Allah more as supplications and beseeching
Allah is the best worship. The prophet said that each Muslim has a sup-
plication that is answered by Allah every day during Ramadan. Supplica-
tion is the Sunna – norm – of the prophets and good people; it is also the
lifestyle of modest people.
Oh, Muslims who fast Ramadan, take the initiative and enlarge your good
deeds such as performing prayers, doing alms, obeying your parents,
visiting your relatives, refraining the self from committing abominable
actions, atoning from sins and doing any charitable action helps us ap-
proach the Paradise as well as keeping us away from Hell. Be informed
that there is a night called “Lailat Al-Qader” or night of fate in which
worshipping is equal the worshipping of one thousand months; means 83
years and 4 months.
Abu Horairah, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “The prophet (PBUH)
said that Allah, the Almighty, forgives the prior sins of theMuslim person
who performs worshipping in Lailat Al-Qader as a sacrifice for Allah’s
reward; in addition, Allah forgives
also the Muslim person who fasts
Ramadan for the same purpose.
Imam Al-Nawawi, may Allah be
pleased with him, explains that
Allah forgives all prior sins of the
Muslim person who fasts the holy
month of Ramadan in accordance
with what Sharia says without hy-
pocrisy seeking for His reward.
It is said that the best fasting is to
fast from eating, committing sins
and to break your breakfast through
paying alms.
We finally entreat Allah, the Al-
mighty, to enable us to witness the
holy month of Ramadan, fast it, per-
form our worship and recite the holy
Qur’an. We beseech Him to bestow
His mercy and blessings upon the
prophet Muhammad (PBUH), his
wives, companions and followers.

Start fasting when you see Ramadan’s crescent…
One day a person attended to Judge Hussein, who was one of
the famous jurists, alleged that he saw the prophet Muhammad
(PBUH) in his dream, and told Judge Hussein that the prophet
told him that it is the first night of Ramadan. The judge then said
to the person, “What you allege that you saw in your dream –
means the prophet – told his companions to start fasting Rama-
dan when they see its crescent and also to break their fast when
they see the crescent of the next month named Shawal.”
KPC Newsletter staff has selected a number of anecdotes hoping
to gain your satisfaction
The ceiling is fasting!
One of the poor people was dwelling in an old house
where he was hearing sounds of cracking coming out
from the house’s ceiling. However, when the owner of
the house visited him once, the dweller informed him of
the problem. Yet, the owner replied saying, “Don’t worry
the ceiling is fasting and this is its sound of praising Al-
lah, the Almighty.” The dweller then said, “I’m afraid
that the ceiling might fall down to genuflect to Allah,
the Almighty, and then I and it will not able to get up
again.”
Ramadan and Ash’ab
Ash’ab, who was one of the greediest and worst persons,
attended to one of rulers on the first day of Ramadan
demanding him to have breakfast. The ruler gave orders
to serve a big table on which a lamb was cooked. Ah’ab
began to staring at the lamb as if he did not like it, the
matter provoked the anger of the ruler who wanted to
teach him a lesson. He then said to Ash’ab, “The pris-
oners demanded me to dispatch an Imam to perform
prayers with them in Ramadan." Go and perform prayer
with them throughout the holy month, said the ruler. At
this moment, Ash’ab said to the ruler, “If you exempt me
from this duty, I will swear that I will never eat the meat
of the lamb for good.” The ruler then began to laugh.
Fasting of foolish people is easier…
One of the foolish people attended to one of the caliphs
in a night of Ramadan while the latter was eating. The
caliph invited the man to join him; yet the foolish person
said, “I’m fasting.” Then, the ruler inquired astonish-
ingly, “You fast day and night.” However, the idiot per-
son said, “I discovered that fasting at night is easier than
fasting during daytime of Ramadan; in addition, food in
daytime is more delectable than eating it at night.”
Some foolish people were asked, “How did you fast Ra-
madan?”
They answered, “Thirty persons among us gathered and
fast one day.”
Miser people and fasting
One of the poets attended to a miser person whose face
turned wan thinking that unless the poet ate from his
food, he -the poet- would definitely satirize him. Yet, the
poet realized the worry and anxiety which hit the man
and said that he vowed to fast that day; accordingly, the
face of miser person began to become shiny and happy.
