Course Work A common core of courses within the 36-hour degree provide a broad-based understanding of the field. Students selecting the thesis option will complete an original research study, which provides excellent preparation for future doctoral studies. Students will select an area of concentration based on their goals and career expectations:

» learning support: prepares educators to lead instruction and academic support programs for post-secondary students seeking academic assistance in an array of disciplines

» literacy (reading and writing): teaches educators to develop the requisite theoretical and practical literacy knowledge to successfully teach in two- and four-year institutions

» developmental mathematics: prepares educators to develop the requisite instructional and mathematics skills to be successful in teaching college-level mathematics courses

Why choose Texas State? The program offers students the opportunity to research with nationally and internationally recognized, award-winning faculty in beautiful Central Texas. Students learn to think critically about theory, research and practice in multiple areas of college readiness and developmental education including developmental literacy, learning support and developmental mathematics.
