developing ideas

Idea One: Mr Blue SkyMy first idea is to do a music video for the song Mr Blue Sky by the Electric
Light Orchestra. Because this will be my last media project I would love to
create a happy music video that makes people smile and I think that this would
be a great song to do this with because it is very happy!
If I were to choose this song, I would want to create a performance-based video
that also has elements of a concept video. I would like to get my ‘artists’ to
perform in various places (at the beach, in a field, in a classroom, etc.) and then
piece it all together. I would like to change the colour filters of the shots to make
them look bright and sunny. I could also use green screen in order to put my
artists in spectacular places like the beach!
In order to make my music video unique, I would quite like to put a ‘personal’
touch on the video - have the camerawork slightly more handheld, and looking
less professional perhaps. I would also like to have my characters performing
alone and in large crowds of people.
Because my video is going to have such a happy, sunny theme, my characters
would also have to wear very summery clothing. For example, swimming
shorts, sunglasses, vests, etc.
My characters could also be seen playing the instruments used in the song. All
of these clips could create a compilation of clips that I can string together in
order to create my music video.
Idea Two: My ImmortalMy second idea is to create a music video for the song My Immortal
by Evanescence. This is a ridiculously sad song in comparison to
Mr Blue Sky. The song is about somebody who has been
heartbroken and so I would like to reinforce the lyrics of this song by
creating a narrative music video.
Although I do not have a definite plan for this narrative yet, I would
like it to be the story of a boy and a girl who fall in love (the little
cuties) but then shortly into the video, the boy breaks the girl’s heart
and the video looks at how she suffers because of it.
Unlike my first idea, this idea would use a lot of urban locations, and
would most probably use darker night-time locations. This is a
completely different mise-en-scene to the first video but would be a
lot more appropriate for the theme - and so is creating a relationship
between the lyrics and the visuals.
I may, however, look into challenging the conventions of a music
video by having the girl break the boy’s heart instead.
Idea Three: Brown Eyed GirlMy third choice is another happy song - but so old that it does not
even have an original music video. I would be interested in creating
a video for Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison. If I were to choose
this idea, then I would create a narrative video that, instead of
showing the deterioration of a relationship, instead shows the
flourishing of one.
I would like to film this video in more quiet, remote locations but
then I wouldn’t mind if they were urban - like in a quiet library or
something like that.
I would want my characters to be fairly young and youthful - maybe
16 or 17. This would reinforce the target audience of my video
because it would be something that some teenagers may be able to
relate to.
I would be interested in doing this video because it doesn’t currently
have a music video but I think that it would be a good song to
create a beautiful story to.
