ABSTRACT

In the globalization era, rapid data communication and sufficient information is important to make the right decision at the right time. Especially in the garment industry, customer orders fluctuate a lot due to world fashion. This has a significant impact on master production scheduling and consequently on time delivery performance. Furthermore, an inaccurate production plan also affects purchasing plan and actual production. Plans in the garment industry are typically unsynchronized. Despite the recognition of the need for a supply chain plan, the supply chain plan in the industry typically does not exist. � An attempt was made in this research to firstly reengineer the garment industry business process and then to focus on the supply chain planning system. This was to reengineer the information system and management related to the plan. A decision support system for information management in a garment industry plan was developed. Visual Basic 6.0 and Microsoft Access 2000 were chosen for developing the program and database. The program collects and shows related information to generate appropriate plans such as a master plan and a purchasing plan. There are three functions which are capacity booking, master plan generating and plan for purchasing. The prototype and program developed could be adapted and applied to other industry supply chain plan as well as to the garment industry.
